  1. I finally saw it, and I don't want to skim through 89 pages to find out if anyone else mentioned this but...

Is Rey, Luke Skywalkers daughter? I only say this because, I remember in The Empire Strikes Back, when Luke was with Yoda, he had all those visions in the forest. The same thing happened to Rey when she held the lightsaber?

Also, this might sound cheesy as fuck, but I wish the ending could've been a little better. In the sense of, instead of when Rey sees Luke and he doesn't say anything and the film just ends; Luke could've said something like, "You have much to learn..." or something like that.

  2. I don't understand why people still think it's not going to take down Avatar.

I mean, when Avatar was released it only opened to $77m, but then it did something completely different it's second weekend: it practically stayed flat. But not only that, it also held really well during the weekdays. Just pretend it's 2009 again, when Avatar opened to $77m and performed like any other film, how much do you think it's total should have been during a holiday release? $310m? But Avatar was a completely different beast.

Now we got an amazing Star Wars movie that is well received by everyone, there hasn't been a Star Wars movie in a decade, we got a whole new generation of fans that love the franchise, it's released in the perfect time slot to do huge business, it literally went balls deep on the December opening weekend and bitch slapped the All Time opening weekend, and yet you motherfuckers still think it's domestic gross will be less than Avatar?

Please, get the fuck outta here.

I understand that it's front loaded with a huge $120m opening day, but it's practically beating every record that it faces (yes, it will take the ww opening weekend once actuals come in). Plus, we've never had anything like this happen in December, why treat it like any other film? Just like Avatar, this too is a completely different beast.

For Fucks Sake, The Phantom Menace was a piece of shit, had garbage reviews, nobody fuckin likes it, people are encouraged to view the Star Wars movie Machete style just to completely forget it, it was released in the summer, and still had a multiplier of 6.7!!! I get what you're gonna say, 'it was the first Star Wars movie in 30 years, it was gonna be huge regardless'. Maybe, but that movie also sucked dick.

It's been 10 years since the last Star Wars movie, people love this, it's breaking records, it's the holidays, it has no competition, it's going to [MOD EDIT] Avatar!

    FUCKIN ACCEPT IT!

You know what, we can all speculate until the cows come home but the bottom line is the next 10 week days are going to play like summer weekdays but the difference the weekends will play like Christmas weekends...so just for arguments sake:

    247 weekend off a 57 mill Sunday:

Let's just say it follows something like 2010

    Monday:  37

    Tuesday:  36

    Wednesday:  36

    Thurs: 25

    Christmas Day:  50

    Sat: 60

    Sun: 48

    And that's not unrealistic.

That's 540 million by the end of Christmas weekend.

Can this really pull off 3 $60m+ non consecutive days? I think it would be the first time a film has ever done this in history, right?

Over $500m in 10 days, Jesus Christ. That's beating the previous record by a whole fuckin week! 0.0

Maybe percentage wise, until you actually look at the numbers and see that it made $120 million over Christmas weekend.

Yeah, percentage wise, the drop is going to look really bad, but if we take the previews out, maybe it won't look so bad?

I mean, JW dropped nearly 50% (49%). It would look bad (percentage wise) if it has the same fate.

I really hope it can beat Avatar DOM, that would be a fitting end!

    Avatar is going down, easily.

I mean, if it opens with, lets say, $235m and plays like the shitty prequel movies...

    TPM: $1,562,854,572

    AOTC: $887,378,283

    ROTS: $824,114,838

or if you look at the average multiplier of the top 10 December openings, and worst and best legs, you get...

    Average: $1,131,545,858

Best Case: $2,287,490,326 (Avatar multiplier...never happening, but one can wish. :P)

    Worst Case: $780,356,514 (IAL multiplier)

What I'm trying to say is, in my opinion, Avatar is going down.

If The Phantom Menace was able to do well, and it was soo shitty, what makes you think that a great quality star wars film can't have amazing legs?

Just got back from viewing #2. One guy behind me hated it. But the rest of the theater seemed to love it. Laser was awesome, 3D was very well done in that format.

I haven't even seen it yet, but this motherfucker saw it twice.

    FML!

Sunday can't come soon enough! :(

I may be pessimistic, but even with a $126M OD, my OW projections keep coming to around $236-240M. I think most people here don't realize that we are in the deep portion of the NFL season, so Sunday will likely have a 30+% drop. I also see it, at the very most staying flat from Friday.

Would love to be wrong, though. Right now I'm hoping for $250M.

Never underestimate the power of the force. It's gonna drop 25% or less.

    Goddamnit!

I've never seen Episode 5 or 6 until this past week. Over a week ago, my cousin told me to watch it in this order: 4,2,5,3,6. But the real order was 4,5,2,3,6. I mean, I still got the effect from watching 6 after watching 3, but still.

Really rough Friday sellout/showtime count for the LA area:

    95 sellouts / 1322 showtimes

I simply don't have the time to check theaters with reserved seating, so I'm simply going off official sellouts as reported to Fandango/MovieTickets.

It's sold out everywhere for reserved, trust me. When I bought my tickets a few weeks/months ago, I was looking for reserved seating. All reserved seating, every show, in the LA area, was sold out for Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, all the shows were either sold out, or had a few super shitty seats, which are basically considered sold out. This was a few months ago, trust me, it's all sold out!

I was lucky enough to find decent seats for a Sunday evening showing with reserved seats, very excited.

  10. So I finally this for the first time, great movie! Actually liked it more than A New Hope. I've only seen episodes 1-4 prior to this, but I saw the Empire on tuesday night, and tonight (thursday) bout to watch Revenge of the Sith and Return of the Jedi. My cousin told me the order to watch the movies, and you pretty much skip the 1st one. The order goes:

    1. A New Hope

    2. Attack of the Clones (Honestly, the last 45 minutes or so was pretty much the only part of the movie that was worth it).

    3. Empire Strikes Back

    4. Revenge of the Sith

    5. Return of the Jedi

Pretty much going back and forth between the prequels and the original trilogy.

Anyway, I give this an A.
