Just saw an ad for this during football and it had the "this film is not yet rated" disclaimer.  Doesn't this come out in less than three weeks? Fandango lists it as Not Rated but AMC and Regal say it's PG-13. That seems right for this sort of biopic but are they just guessing? Is it rated, but Paramount just ran an old ad during a hugely watched game anyway??

Yeah, I saw that too. Weird. Still, can’t say they aren’t spending a bunch marketing this thing, ads and trailers are everywhere. I guess we will see if it matters.

quorum-people-who-pretend-to-not-be-quorum-people, how is this doing in comparison to morbius? dont know if it'll translate to tickets sold, but it sure feels like people only a very aware of this movie

Yeah, I don’t know, maybe Sony is just keeping its powder dry for a big push early next month, but I haven’t run into any Madame Web ads or promotion yet. By contrast I’ve seen the trailer for that Bob Marley biopic coming out at the same time ahead of multiple movies and in front of, like, every other YouTube video I watch. It’s not hard to conclude Sony knows it has a stinkbomb on its hands and isn’t willing to throw good money after bad, but I guess we will see.

    1) : Mean Girls : 7,2M (-38%)

    2) : The Beekeeper : 6,1M (-29%)

    3) : Wonka : 5,5M (-18%)

    4) : Migration : 4,7M (-14%)

    5) : Anyone But You : 4,3M (-20%)

    6) : Aquaman 2 : 2,6M (-29%)

    7) : American Fiction : 2,5M (+43%)

    😎 : Poor Things : 2,3M (+8%)

    9) : The Boys and The Boat 2M (-21%)

    10) : Night Swim : 1,8M (-36%)

If 1.8 makes it into the top 10 then I wouldn't be surprised if Minus One Minus Color sneaks in.

  4. I can’t help but grin at a Toho Godzilla movie getting an Oscar nom for visual effects. I mean, this is the “man in suit” arm of the franchise. Toy tanks, sparklers, models hanging on wires, all that Saturday afternoon Creature Feature jazz. If you look up “cheese” in the film industry dictionary, the entry is just a looped gif of Godzilla doing the flying drop kick in “Megalon.”

Visual. Effects. You’ve come a looooong way, Toho. Good work.

  5. I think Deadpool will do fine. Just the fact that with Aquaman 2’s release, the covid-induced backlog of CBMs has finally been cleared should help. We’ve had 20 superhero movies in the past 30 months (21 if you count Super Pets) and at least to me it’s no surprise that a lot of the audience noped out after a while. Now we get a six month break, except for Madam Web, which like three people are going to see. By the time we get to the end of July the GA may be in a better mood for the genre.

Seems like ABY is having a harsher drop than Wonka this week. With much of the continent covered in snow last weekend/these past few days, I could see drops being really, REALLY good this weekend.

That would be sweet, but at least here in the Chicago area we are still stuck in the freezer, though not as badly as last weekend. Looking at lows between -5 and 5 (Fahrenheit) and highs of 17 to 19 for the weekend. Snow shouldn’t be an issue at least but the cold is stressing everyone.

So, the weather is bad enough in the middle of the country that KC can't sell playoff tickets for more than $30 and Buffalo has canceled their Sunday afternoon NFL playoff game til Monday night...SO, any movie appealing to the middle of the country will be torched this weekend...

Yeah, this. I wouldn’t read a whole lot into their weekend domestically. It’s a Netflix and chill (literally!) weekend for a big chunk of the country.

Bit of a qualifier for my earlier post. Awful awful weather today and throughout the weekend, getting hit with snowstorm tonight, and I’ve talked to a couple of the GMs at different theaters in the area, the weather is definitely crippling sales.

Disregard my earlier post about walkups as being indicative of overall trends. Sorry for the confusion.

Yeah, Chicago area is getting hammered with snow and rain right now. 700 flights already cancelled out of Midway and O’Hare, interstates covered in black ice and jack knifed semis, that sort of hammered. Supposed to be like this through tomorrow morning, so I wouldn’t expect tonight to be a big night at the movies.

I'm trying to understand this film's potential US/NA Box Office and its premiere... do we know in how many US theaters it is premiering?  I looked around in a couple of US markets, and Guntur Kaaram seems to be in fewer theaters than the recent "Salaar: Part 1," for example.  Salaar was in 802 NA theaters.

Also the above tweet reads "USA Premieres Gross" (not just *Previews*). I found a couple of online articles from today saying that Guntur has broken the $1 Million mark for all of its US-presales, so could this $1.036 M number be referring to total North America pre-sales? An India Times article today reads: "...reports hint at even more astounding numbers, estimating estimating that by the end of its premiere, revenue may reach $1.5 million." (India Times; link below)

For comparison, "on its initial day in North America, "Salaar" generated an impressive $3.7 million." (GreatAndhra link below) Salaar ended up being pretty front-loaded, earning a total $5.6 million over that 3-day Fri-Sun Dec 22-24 weekend (including its Thursday previews).

ComingSoon.net: https://www.comingsoon.net/indian/news/1481291-guntur-kaaram-advance-booking-collection-us-mahesh-babu-movie-crosses-1m-mark ("trade pundits have revealed that the pre-sales of the movie have surpassed the $1 million milestone in the US. This is a testament to the massive popularity of the Mahesh Babu-starrer. As a result, these numbers are expected to go as high as $1.5 million by the end of the premieres.")

Great Andhra piece about Salaar Part 1: https://www.greatandhra.com/movies/news/us-bo-salaar-becomes-third-big-hit-for-prabhas-134526#:~:text=On its initial day in,"Salaar" amounts to %243%2C759%2C055.

All I know is this is $22 a ticket at my local cinemark (normal prices are $7.50 to $9.25) so I’m unlikely to be among its viewers.

Also at $93.99m WW per mojo, not counting Tuesday domestic or about $900k from Brazil, so really at least 95 right now. I’m actually starting to believe in 100.

How is the Soul theatrical release selling around everyone else? Cause near me it's sold a grand total of zero tickets. I'm guessing Disney won't even bother reporting numbers for the Pixar re-releases if they're going to be playing to empty auditoriums for the most part (unsurprisingly considering they've been nothing to promote this).

Same here. Neither the local Cinemark nor the Emagine up the road have presold a single ticket. Does not appear they expected much either as both have it playing in their tiniest auditoriums (30-40 seats).

OTOH Mean Girls piling up presales at the Emagine, with 43 tix sold for Thursday (18 PLF) and 123 for Friday (42 PLF).
