Only time will tell, but I can't see any strong reason for them to keep pushing a character and the film that were carefully tailored for mainland China but then gets rejected by mainland China.  Well unless, against all odds, this film still miraculously gets an official release date in the mainland

Maybe because it's already a hit in America?

IMO, Chapek could be out the door in a couple years, especially if his new theme park annual pass structure doesn’t take off.

I do have concern for Eternals. It’s not as easy of a “sell” as Shang-Chi (family centric martial arts). What’s the “hook” for Eternals outside of Chloe Zhao (who casual audiences won’t know or care about) and Angelina Jolie (who has been very downplayed so far). Having a large and diverse ensemble case is nice, but not a strong draw IMO.

The biggest hook in all of film...

For a lot of people theaters are mostly “that place I see new superhero movies a couple times a year.”

At my theater they played a promo for Regal Crown Club before the movie saying “You get points for each movie you watch this year: Black Widow, Shang-Chi, and Eternals.” And showed how much points you get for watching three movies. That got a chuckle out of me but it’s also kind of sad.

It is anti-consumer when I realised i would never be able revisit Endgame in cinema. And small screen at the home in the only choice FOREVER.

Don't you forget streaming have forever exclusive window but cinema only have 45-60 days

80m is not a disastrous number. If anything this weekend should prove that streaming and theaters can co-exist.

Offering more options isn't anti-consumer, lmao. If PA cost literally $50, or $100, or $500, or $500,000 none of those would be "anti-consumer." They'd just be bad business, because people would decide not to make that transaction.

If anything is anti-consumer it is having an arbitrary "exclusive window" where in order to see your product, customers have to get into an indoor space with a hundred strangers during a pandemic, and pay 1000% mark-ups on food and drinks.

The whole movie in 48 fps would be great. Gemini Man already did a pretty good job of implementing HFR (much better than The Hobbit did) and with this being a Cameron film, the implementation is likely gonna be better than Gemini Man.

Hobbit movie kind of soured me on 48 FPS for cinema, but if Cameron is implementing it I will trust him. I would have had the same doubts about 3D before Avatar.

  7. With regards to her father being a billionaire she addressed it in this interview.

For every movie that’s part of awards season, there’s often something weird that pops up. People want to tear everything down. There’s been this strange story going around that your dad is a billionaire in China and that you making this movie in the context of people who are struggling, is sort of unfair and hypocritical, I guess, in some way. Do you have anything to say about that? Or is it just a crazy rumor or something?

It’s fake news. It’s not true. My dad is not a billionaire, never has been. None of my family members are billionaires. I would have loved for them to pay off my student loan and my mortgage if that’s the case. You know, I think the last time I heard some rumors like that was probably at some Chinese tabloid because my dad married my stepmother, who is a comic actress in China. So, I think tabloids like to write stuff like that, but it’s so far from the reality of our lives. It’s kind of funny.

  8. I was basically tearing up the whole way through. Those stories had to be real right? Maybe it's just me as someone who interacts with a lot of homeless people and hospice patients, and recently lost a close family member too soon, but each story came across as so real and emotional for me, and I lost it crying at the end. Of course beautifully shot and edited too. I'm interested if other people had such an emotional reaction or this was just the perfect movie at the perfect time for me.

It’s adding like 1M/minute this hour, JESUS FUCKING CHRIST.

Occupancy is already like 58%, so surely it will just plateau some point. But I dunno, maybe add another couple thousand sessions, 80% occupancy for 1.2B? This has gotta be the craziest CBO day ever.

With Endgame it would halt when it got to the evening showings, presumably because they were already sold out. I wonder if we see something similar here?
