IMO being a fan of the franchise and personally knowing people who are fans of Pokémon

some people are still hesitant to watch a movie where pikachu is talking like a 40 year old. I do think WOM will help attract the fans though and they will be pleasantly surprised

Yea, this is me. I'd consider myself a fan of the franchise (played all main series games, watched anime up to Sinnoh, raid in Go daily), but I don't really have any interest in the PG-Deadpool Pikachu shown in the trailers. I wouldn't say I'm the majority though, there is some level of excitement in my Pokemon Go discord. As for the Go event, it's a good idea as long as the event pokemon isn't something actually good (ie Mewtwo) because then people will just raid all weekend instead of actually watching the movie. What they should do is tie the event into purchasing a ticket though. I know people who bought Let's Go and a Switch just to get Melmetals. :hahaha:

Am I the only one who doesn't feel the article was written badly at all? Sure it's just a bunch of fluff, but they're saying that the movie has made $43M in previews so far. Seems pretty basic.

It would be nice if they told us whether pre-sales were included in that number or not.

Oscar movies bring innovation with their stories. Not all of them....many are undeserving. Do Marvel movies have interesting stories that will stand the test of time? Most are the same story. Marvel movies don't have groundbreaking effects that change the industry, nor stories that will be fondly remembered

I believe at least Infinity War will (as long as Endgame sticks the landing which it seems like it has from reactions). It seems to have already entered the zeitgeist. I've come across so many references and discussions of it in completely unrelated places. In addition, I would classify the inter-weaving storytelling of the MCU as whole, as innovative. At the very least it has spawned countless failed imitators, much like Avatar launched a trend of poorly done 3D conversions in the name of chasing a quick buck.
