Well I thought TLOU2 was fantastic. I do fully understand why people would hate the story if they saw it as bullet points on Reddit and out of context clips, but put together it really works for me. My only real complaints with the game are the length of some of the gameplay sections.
@lorddemaxus Yeah people coming up with the most simplistic interpretation of the game possible, and then calling it simplistic is pretty funny.

I actually made that recipe with the brands from my local Korean supermarket. Was pretty good.

Holy shit! I'll gladly eat crow. The Oscars showed taste for once.

I watched 1917 again and I liked it a lot less. Too many long, blurry, boring shots of people walking around which could have been cut if not for the slavish devotion to its gimmick. Too much style over substance. (And this was still my second favorite of the nominees lol)
So in other words, it winning BP would make perfect sense.

If Captain Marvel only did well cause of connections to Endgame it would have dropped like a rock post-OW when people realised it didn't really have any major connections to Endgame.
Yeah. People still can't get over their wrong Captain Marvel predictions, so this is the current excuse. At least its a step up from "Disney bought the tickets"

I hated the first half of this. Found it boring and disjointed. I don't know if the parallel timelines were from the book, but I found it very sloppily done. For example, the juxtaposition made Beth's death scene a laugher rather than a cryer.
Then from Laurie's confession onward, I actually quite enjoyed it. Pugh, Chalamet, and Ronan's performances carried this, and I liked the meta ending.

Anyone else remember when WB produced the best comic book movie of all time in 2008? And no, I'm not talking about The Dark Knight. I'm talking about Speed Racer.
You guys act like the portals scene and iron man death scene in Endgame are the most cathartic and emotional things to happen in a superhero movie but this beats any of that by a mile:
I mean, that's not even the most emotional scene from the movie.

Enjoyed it a lot. The nighttime shots especially were beautiful, and I loved the score. I respect the craft of it, but I think the movie would have been better if they dropped the one-shot thing. I feel Mendes could have still won his Oscar with a more "Revenant" style. My least favorite parts of the film were connecting scenes, and blurry camera pans which could have been better served by some cuts if they didn't have to keep up the charade.

I think Joker has a good shot at BP. It got noms in categories where I felt the movie was mediocre-weak (screenplay, cinematography, editing), seems like something the PGAs would go for (big profit), and Twitter backlash does not equal Academy backlash (Green Book).

It's not like these (or the Oscars) are in any way a measure of quality... So I'm rooting for Joker, to see the ensuing shitshow.

C’mon now. It has to gross money to do that.
So you're saying The Irishman isn't "cinematic"?

Well I have some crow to eat. This was my favorite of the sequel trilogy.
The worst-made movie, but the best Star Wars movie of the three. This and TFA together actually make some kind of sense, but half of the movie was just reversing and replacing everything that happened in TLJ which made it rushed, bloated and convoluted. Still, this was the first one I actually felt something from the characters (Ben and Rey), and expanded the lore. I would actually be interested to see more from Rey after this which I would not have said before.

Handling multi billions dollar franchises was always gonna be way more difficult than making pseudo risky movies like Marriage Story, Uncut Gems, Little Women or Parasite movies with a total lack of ambition in almsost every way.
Their sole amition & excuse for existing is to cater and please cinephiles, critics & award bodies, a tiny but loud minority that dictates what good taste is.
My point being :
Disney s tentpole strategy was always gonna be the most difficult and riskier one.
Having a brand means nothing.
Making movies for general audiences is the most difficult art form there is.
It is also th emost noble.
That s why most of the pseudo artist (say the word with a french accent) directors cinephiles fap to don't even try to make those films, it scares them.
Parasite was a blockbuster film in Korea.

There's one ironclad reason why Parasite won't win BP. It's the best film of the year.

So that's Pugh's Oscar clip that everyone is talking about. It's very good. Streep iceberg averted.
Wait... I thought you hated Pugh with a vengeance. Or was that someone else?

This was pretty good. Got a little self-indulgent (and sillly) towards the end though. "Hugh did this" lmao. Overall very entertaining though, and seemed like the sneak audience loved it (uproarious laughter at some points).

This was fantastic. Simultaneously both the funniest and the most suspenseful movie I've seen so far this year. Beautifully shot and provides insight on society, but is still crowd-pleasing and entertaining throughout. (Plenty of laughs and gasps in my screening).
And then I watched Memories of Murder and it's just as good if not better.
I think I found the emotional climax of Memories more powerful, but prefer Parasite overall upon first viewings.
