  1. GOT will definitely affect the Sunday numbers. The episode is 72 minutes long. Don’t think the average person is willing to watch that + 3 hours of end game in one day. Warner Bros. is doing everything in their power to sabotage EG. First GOT and then DP. It’s obvious!
  2. the fact that the other studios failed does not make MCUs legacy “bad”. It’s like saying “X movie had so many rip offs .. they all sucked, wow it really changed the industry for the worse”. MCU is good and successful that’s all that matters. Black panther is relevant because it will be remembered for a very long time. It had huge impact. Hollywood never thought that a black cast blockbuster could be successful. It changed the entire landscape of Hollywood.
  3. Yeah the only time I see anything about avatar go viral it’s always a joke about how forgotten it is. Lol. But I’m not gonna argue more over this. Time will show the truth.
  4. No offense but Star Wars is just a linear trilogy / franchise. We have had plenty of those. Lord of the ring, Harry Potter etc. MCU is a complex cinematic universe with interconnected stories and characters. It has never been done before. 22 movies in 10 years is beyond insane. I would not put them on the same level.
  5. 1) People saw it because of the 3D/Technological gimmick. No one remembers the actual movie. No one connected with the characters. No one cares about the plot. There is absolutely no reason to return to “Pandora”. 2) Aquaman is a superhero movie. The most popular “genre” of movies right now. It doesn’t matter when Avatar is released because not many people will bother showing up either way 3) you’re right about that. But we have members here saying it’s going to smash and gross billions (like you) despite there being no promo or trailers. I think I have the same right to share my opinion as well. 4) Many Hollywood blockbusters spectacles gross around 100~ million in China. So Avatar smashing there isn’t a gurantee.
  6. Well that makes sense. I’m hoping for a number as high as possible. This is probably the last movie that has a chance at beating Avatar’s exchange rate lucky gross.
  7. But will people care?... Avatar is literally unknown and forgotten. This isn’t going to be a “Jurassic world” where the first movie is beyond iconic and loved. I don’t think it will even reach 1 billion.
  8. Bomb is obv hyperbole but think of it from the perspective of the studio. If you spent years into making something and invested millions of dollars - would you consider barely breaking even an achievement? What makes you think Avatar will be a billion dollar success? The movie isn’t remembered or iconic and no one asked for a sequel. What exactly will get people interested?
  9. I’m sure breaking even is what a studio has in mind when they spend time and money on making a blockbuster. Alita bombed and Avatar 2 will probably as well.
  10. Well of course it’s possible but it’s probaly going to stall around 2,2 billion. It’s legs will be much shorter due to the high opening and Pikachu is coming. How did Alita do again?
  11. That’s the problem with most humans. We think we want something and that it will make us happy/excited. But once it actually happens it’s always like: “ohhh k.. nice I guess”.
  12. And I gave you the reasons to why Star Wars reached such high numbers and Marvel hasn’t (over saturation of genre, streaming, more blockbusters than ever released every year etc) . MCU is and will always be bigger than that trilogy fad that hasn’t been able to satisfy its fans since the 80s.
  13. My point still remains. Both movies were sandwiched between Infinity/Endgame. You “feeling” that her post credit scene had more impact still doesn’t explain the discrepancy between Ant-Mans 2 and captain marvels grosses. It’s far to big to ignore. Aquaman was still a mediocre movie that did 1 billion despite DCEUs terrible track record of only one good movie. Captain Marvel would have done similar numbers with or without infinity war.
  14. Adjusting numbers isn’t a bullet proof concept. There’s a lot of thing to consider. For example Star Wars had less competition. The superhero genre is oversaturated. Can’t imagine Star Wars doing as well had it been competing with 5-7 space operas every year. Also let’s not forget streaming. That’s bound to keep a lot of people satisfied and stay at home. A lot of Star Wars films also benefited from December releases and LONG breaks between sequels. I can guarantee that if marvel took a decade break and came back with the original avengers they would outgross any Star Wars movie domestically. The MCU formula is unique and has to be looked at differently. No one has managed to replicate it. Releasing 2-3 movies per year and still maintaining massive success. Star Wars tried and failed. MCU is bigger.
  15. Oh please enough with the myth that Captain Marvel grossed a lot because of Infinity War/End Game. Let’s not forget that Ant-Man and the wasp received the same treatment and that barely scrapped 600 million. And that movie was also directly connected to infinity war with the snap. Also are we going to ignore Aquaman’s (an extremely mediocre film as well) gross? If that could cross 1 billion then there shouldn’t be any questions about Captain Marvel.
