No numbers, but the amount of screening doing the pre-opening apparently is now at 900 screenings at 25% capacity.

So far, both MK and DS are performing as expected. Just like Broly, DS had strong weekdays leading to the second weekend and MK just like the other Warner/HBO Max releases had a bigger drop on monday and okay-ish holds the following days. Today and the next friday will be the true test for both.

Godzilla vs Kong's advanced opening is starting today in São Paulo. It will have 170 screenings. A few chains are opening today over there and this will be their big movie for the reopening.

Demon Slayer finally got a release date on may 13, and War With Grandpa, that was supposed to be released last friday, got delayed for the same day. My opinion? TERRIBLE date for both. In the span of the first 3 weeks of may it will release, besides these two, GvK, Mortal Kombat, The Unholy, Chaos Walking, Promissing Young Woman and Nobody. Waaaay too much blockbusters for a market that only 2 states have their cinemas open and the rest won't have a date to reopen or will only do it mid-to-end may. Not sure what the hell the distributors here are thinking.

No, MK didn't had previews. Apparently they did put some last minute screeenings on thrsday, but they were too few to make any difference.

I think is also good to remember that the legs during this pandemic behave different than the legs before the pandemic. Due to the lack of releases the movies are not having the drops it would've been expected during normal times, and both MK and DS will have the next 3 weeks pretty much empty until the first actual major movie come out, with pretty much only each other as an actual competitor.

To be fair, stuff like Tom and Jerry and WW84 also constantly do single digit drops. The exception when they had more noticeble drops was during the second weekend and on the weekends of a big release. When they came across empty weekends these movies pretty much remained flat.

Is there any update if any new thursday screening showed up for MK?

Mexico have been failing to accurately record its Covid deaths. The government said the the actual number of deaths might be 60% higher than the current number. That is because the have been falling behind into testing contaminated people and the overcrowding of hospitals forces many people to die at home without assistance.

This weekend releases War With Grandpa, but also São Paulo will reopen its theaters, expect a nice boost next week. Some other cities will supposedly lift some of the restrictions this friday, but no word about cinemas in most of these places.

Really strong pre-sales for MK. I just hope legs are good enough for the weekend.

Last weekend saw the reopening of theaters chains UCI, Kinoplex and Cine Casal Barra Point in Rio de Janeiro, that let to a boost of 150% on the box office.
