Let's put it this way....
the amount of people watching/not watching Fall Guy based on a single line about the miserable Depp/Heard relationship is absolutely miniscule.
-
The Sequel Trilogy aren't getting re-evaluated because they didn't introduce any new characters that people cared about and felt like inferior versions of the originals.

And my guess is nobody really cares or remembers that and certainly not why the movie is struggling to break out.
I'm sure you're correct on that. Problem is sticking Blunt/Gosling in the same film does not=Barbenheimer in hype terms.
-
Velma got an s2 because Zaslav only cares about animation for hatewatching/cheap pops on streaming.
Velma s2 is already down to #10 on Max US, I very much doubt it gets an s3. It's not exactly Bojack in durability terms.

Just to be purely pedantic, Gosling's whining about Gerwig not getting a Best Director nom (when the movie was already nominated for Best Picture!) was really fucking annoying.
-
It's an easy 230 mil US/650 mil WW given the value of the IP, but I'm iffy on more than that given the level of competition. I've seen plenty of sequels decline rapidly from their precursors as of late.
-
Do people generally think Civil War has enough remaining runway to hit 75 mil?
-
The real trolls are the studio heads claiming this is somehow irredeemably bad while putting out loads of...dubious movies.
-
Clearly Megalopolis is inferior to THE GREATEST SUPERHERO MOVIE SINCE THE DARK KNIGHT that Zaslav loved so much.
-
I get the sense people on here really don't get how popular Sonic is.
Guess they'll have to learn the hard way.

Would that make Simba Cody?
Pretty much.

Not gonna be too judgmental based on the trailer visuals but the story sounds pretty stupid.
"Taka" (a name that means "trash") was somehow the chosen one? Mufasa was somehow from the lion equivalent of poverty row (which doesn't exist for lions)? Even Scar's speech from Lion King always made it sound like MUFASA was always viewed as "above Scar" his entire life. An actual villain origin for Scar where HE had a life of misery and resentment he had secretly concealed from Mufasa sounds much more like the actual backstory of Scar than "Dusty Rhodes lion ruined my life, the movie".

Most people don't watch movies based on poster art anymore. And the studios are painfully aware of this.

- Sonic 2 - .29x (2.19m)
- TMNT (Total) - .179x (1.06m)
- Minions 2 - .806x (8.69m)
- Ghostbusters Afterlife (Total) - .232x (1.02m)
Seems pretty low overall, although likely a bad indicator of the "real" gross. I'm not really getting "breakout of the summer" vibes from it, though.

Garfield would not be the next Mario in April.

Surprised they are not waiting for Apes their own studio movie. I mean it will play in front of Apes also. But it will have to be green band for both. Furiosa will get the red band I assume.
Why not do it now and get started hyping it quicker? They gain nothing for waiting and the early trailer is already out.

That's lovely but Spy Family is also "IP".
I don't know why I even bother, box office reporters are fucking STUPID now.

But they do need to team up with better screenwriters.
https://variety.com/2024/film/box-office/box-office-a24s-civil-war-wins-weekend-again-1235977592/
Heading into the weekend, “Abigail” was predicted to top the box office with $12 million to $15 million in its debut. But the R-rated, blood-sucking thriller opened slightly behind projections, taking second place with $10.2 million from 3,384 venues.
Oh sure, everyone needs good screenwriters.
Also, didn't Annihilation get a times 3 multiplier? It would get it close to EEAO if that's what it actually manages.

It already lost the majority of its PLFs this weekend as far as I can tell (near me it's either Ministry, Abigail, or a split between both). Challengers is looking to take over those screens next weekend.
Oh? So it just didn't die in its second week, even without the PDFs? Well, that's probably the single biggest hit it will take so it actually did overperform.
-
IF that was Civil War's real drop and not some overly optimistic number A24 put out that's a lot better than the doomer "this movie is DOA after opening weekend" line that was popular here for a while. When does it actually lose its PLFs?
-
Most modern horror isn't scary because it relies solely on gore and jump scares. Now The Lighthouse, THERE was a disconcerting film.

Now A24's fifth biggest hit ever, and will soon settle into being their second biggest hit ever.
I'm assuming this means Civil War actually won the weekend.

IF this does somehow completely tank rather than merely disappointing, it would point out that Superbowl trailers are an utter fucking waste of money.
-
Radio Silence doesn't need horror stars. It needs a radioactive mutant koala that drops out of trees and sucks people's blood.

Could they have possibly went with a title that doesn't sound like "Free Guy" to the vast majority of people who DON'T remember the Lee Majors series?
