  1. At some point prior to 2010 maybe. But it's been long enough that the tactic has failed that it should be abandoned.
  2. I hope this doesn't sound trollish. But I don't get this. Is this saying the movie will somehow get better scores if it's shown at a festival? Or that reviews at a festival are more "valid" than others? I'm really confused.
  3. ...That actually sounds like a realistic assessment of the film if we're going by its IMDB or Metacritic scores. But people really should have described it as something other than "SXSW raves" if it wasn't actually raves.
  4. Oh, so the joke just requires me to be an oblivious moron and ignore the fact that Rowling and Radcliffe/Watson have diametrically opposed views on a social issue that's literally gotten people killed. Got it.
  5. Super Bowl ads don't really make sense for ANY movie though. Flash super bombed and lost more money than Fall Guy ever will with a much buzzier Super Bowl trailer.
  6. ...forgive me for not having much of a sense of humor about anything as loathsome as forcing Radcliffe/Watson to work on Rowling related stuff again.
  7. Its Metacritic is 73. Lots of movies have a "good not great" score on Metacritic like that. People on here talked it up like it had Fury Road level raves, so SXSW must have had a very different reaction that the critics who watched it elsewhere. https://www.metacritic.com/movie/the-fall-guy/ Note that its audience score is 75. This is also "good not great" range generally (especially since this movie most likely isn't getting review bombed. Compare this to the audience score for the Mario movie: https://www.metacritic.com/movie/the-super-mario-bros-movie/ Maybe I miscalculated what the "raves" were but I don't get the sense paying audiences treated this film as some kind of Barbenheimer level thingy.
  8. Nah, it totally felt like an astroturf. I had seen zero real world response to the "hype" and it mainly seemed to be something referenced on box office boards. I had never heard actual realspace humans say "Wow I hear that Fall Guy movie is really something!" It certainly wasn't the equivalent of "Joker wins Golden Lion".
  9. ...I'm skeptical Radcliffe and Watson want to work on projects written by Rowling for reasons that are painfully obvious.
  10. I can't help but laugh about all the "superhero fatigue" "superheroes are dead" stuff given how badly a non-superhero summer opener has done. Whatever it is that's supposed to save cinema "action movie with romance and Taylor Swift score" ain't it. Also seems pretty clear the "rave reviews from advance screenings" was likely an astroturf, albeit less sketchy than the Flash one.
  11. It's....not gonna be that marketable anyway IMO because it's a remake of something already done with an older, better cast, but yeah, deadly tornadoes do not qualify as escapism anymore.
  12. I mean, I like the fact that it DOESN'T look like the "default 2020s" cinematographic filter. Hopefully they don't go the "REAL IS BROWN" or "everything should have zero lighting" trends. To me, this does not look like a super high concept film. Certainly more accesible than something like Poor Things or a lot of A24 films. Also if we're going by the "advance reviews/screenings mean its gonna bomb!" metric.....hoo boy, is that a stupid and innacurate way to measure a film's potential impact.
  13. Please stop making movie titles consisting of "(thing) Guy(s)". It always leads to a poor opening.
  14. ....I could see it doing over 40 mil. Not over 50 unless it dramatically spikes.
  15. Considering I haven't heard any reports of If becoming a meme movie in any way, I'll take "no" over "flying pandas fart out peppermint bubbles and If becomes the next Gentleminions" for my theory on this one.
  16. What I'm saying is no one will pay for "WB" as a whole. Loads of unprofitable cable channels and other crap still.
  17. I doubt people will want to buy all of WB and absorb its even more massive debt load either.
  18. She can "go it alone" for now but all that will do will increase the likelihood that Paramount will end up getting sold for parts later. Most buyers aren't interested in dozens of unprofitable cable channels.
  19. I'm increasingly skeptical on tracking given how much Fall Guy underperformed "studio tracking". It didn't underperform the actual tracking ON HERE but unless I see a big groundswell for IF I think Garfield will be the main "pure kids" movie.
  20. I actually don't think the family market is as starved as people claim. Ghostbusters and Kung Fu Panda already came out. You'd think NOTHING targeted families since Wonka the way people on here talk.
