  1. Apparently they are not releasing it on as many screens as the big releases, only 35,000. Is this true? How might this impact its gross? Kong x Godzilla might beat it to number 1.
  2. How much do you think the final gross could be? 70 million? Its presales double Dune and KongvsGodzilla.
  3. Can you please tell me how much The Boy and the Heron made over the weekend, what its total is now? How many screens? Is it still in cinemas?
  4. Where are you getting your worldwide total of 201 M from? The highest I can find is 173 million on Boxofficemojo. Can you send a link please?
  5. So according to The Numbers its expansion was only to 440 screens and it made 260,181 over the weekend per theater average 610 dollars. Not huge numbers. I thought they'd put it on more screens. However, it had a much higher per theater average at least than Luca at 396 dollars per screen! The Boy and the Heron GKIDS $268,181 +549% 440 +379 $610 $46,466,236 16
  6. I can't find any info on how well the film is doing this weekend given its expansion or re-release or even how many screens it is showing on. Anyone know?
  7. Japan Box Office Mar. 20 ( Vernal Equinox Day ) 1 #Doraemon43 $1.7M/$13.4M (+714%) 2 #変な家 $ 1.65M/ $6.6M 3 #Haikyu $0.9M/$48.6M 4 #GodzillaMinusOne $0.6M/$45M (+ 92%) 5 #DunePartTwo $0.45M/ $2.65M 6 #Migration $380k/$1.1M 9 #TheBoyAndTheHeron $200k/ $61.9M (+72%) I was expecting more of a jump for 'The Boy and the Heron' today because of the release of the English-language version. Any reason why it hasn't made a lot more than the last few days even though the number of screens apparently increased?
  8. With an Academy Award and Japan Academy Film Prize under its belt, Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron is getting more showings in Japan with a huge expansion set later this week that includes screenings of the English dub of the film across Japan. Before then though, that didn’t stop people from rushing out and seeing the latest from Studio Ghibli over the last week, giving the film two new milestones on its bird belt. As of March 17, The Boy and the Heron has made 9.08 billion yen (US$63.55 million) at the Japanese box office with 6.12 million tickets sold. Since the film’s last major placing in the charts in September 2023, this newest update–which has the film passing 9 billion yen!–has brought the Miyazaki feature up 15 places on the all-time charts, putting it at 64th place and less than 100 million yen behind Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. https://www.crunchyroll.com/news/latest/2024/3/18/the-boy-and-the-heron-japan-all-time-box-office-charts-64th-place
  9. So about 65 million dollars overall is predicted for 'How Do You Live' and only 25 million for 'Howl's'. Surprising. Is Howl's getting a more limited release?
  10. Hey can I ask how many cinemas Boy Heron was in at the weekend and if they increased the number of screens after the Oscar ceremony? How much did it make overall this weekend? Thanks
  11. I think 'The Boy and the Heron' expanded after its Oscar win. Has it worked its way up the chart on Friday and Saturday?
  12. But you said it is now showing in over 250 screens in Japan, I guess this includes the original version? Is the re-release in Japan going to be as wide as the original release?
  13. They are putting it back in UK cinemas too. Don't know how long for. Do you know how many cinemas the English dub will be shown in Japan and any predictions about how successful it'll be? Japan still doesn't have an official trailer but i'm sure they are able to view all the Youtube trailers. Also Boxofficemojo is now listing the re-release of the film as being a wide release on March the 22nd, not limited. So we can expect to see it in over 2000 screens again.
  14. Looks like it'll get a big release again, thinking 2000 screens? Wow... could make 60 million overall. Is it a re-release or an expansion? It is basically out of cinemas now, isn't it?
  15. Going by what you're saying TBATH could be huge in China. It is the biggest market in the world and it isn't uncommon for domestic films to gross over 400 million dollars there. Exciting to consider it could make over 100 million there. I'm worried that they are releasing two Ghibli films in one month, couldn't there be a problem with oversaturation?
  16. I wonder if the Oscar BAFTA Golden Globe wins will boost its box office potential in China or do they care about those awards at all there? https://movie.douban.com/trailer/315126/#content They released the Mainland China trailer too. It isn't a direct copy of the American trailer. I suppose this will be playing in Chinese cinemas so they aren't going for the 'no publicity' approach.
  17. It will be interesting to see how the Oscar win will impact the overall China box office result. I assume it'll boost it considerably and that they are advertising the film heavily there with trailers unlike how they advertised it in Japan.
  18. Looks like in Japan the Oscar win is really surging the popularity. Will be very interesting to see how the English dub goes. Your number $199.2M is different from Boxofficemojo and The Numbers. Where can you find the accurate number? Although I know Boxofficemojo missed out Taiwan's numbers and The Numbers website missed out France's box office for the film.
  19. What is the release date? Also, do you think it will do well being released in Japan with the English dub and Japanese subtitles?
  20. I don't understand how it works but is 10 million how much it costs Alibaba to show the film in China or how much it costs Ghibli to distribute the film there? Why does Suzuki want more? Will it possibly make 60 million dollars, is there much buzz? When is Howl's Moving Castle being released there?
  21. Nobody! I wonder why Ghibli bothers submitting their films for awards (I assume someone at Ghibli has to submit the film for each award, right? Or are films automatically submitted?) and none of them ever bother to turn up for any award. Is it a sort of reverse snobbishness? I know why they don't attend the Oscars. I saw Miyazaki thanked the Spaniards for giving The Boy and the Heron an award via video, but no other thanks. Why? Does he prefer the Spaniards to the Americans, the Brits and others? I know Miyazaki said he didn't see the film as being in contention for any awards, he doesn't like them because they imply wins and losses. But he's literally one of about two filmmakers in history who pretends he doesn't want his film to win awards.
  22. Did any other films in history get both the BAFTA, Golden Globe but loose out on the Oscar? Boy Heron also got many of the top film critics awards. I think the biggest disparity was The Lego Movie winning the BAFTA but Oscar didn't even nominate it. But apart from that result, BAFTAs predict the Oscar winner very well.
  23. So if it won the Golden Globe and BAFTA, surely it is the frontrunner for the Oscar? It lost out on the Annie Award though. What are the odds?
  24. How much do you predict this will gross? Will it get a limited release like Porco Rosso? Or could it do as well as Spirited Away in China? I'm worried about oversaturation. If they release TBATH soon after or before Howl's Moving Castle, might it overshadow the film?
