  1. I hope people weren't taking their little kids to see this just because it had a CGI tiger in it. Yikes.
  2. I feel a lot better about this casting that I do about Cavill in MOS, but I can't pinpoint why. I'm hoping this will be less like the Starsky & Hutch remake and more like the last Bond.
  3. And from a practical perspective, it's not going to do the VFX artists any favors to try to turn Ang Lee (rather than the studios) into the villain of this piece. Not only is there a published Q & A/interview in which he expressed sympathy for the plight of R & H and the people who worked VFX, he's also generally well-liked. The response in the industry will not be, "Ang Lee sucks!" it will be, "Why are you being mean to him?" If this was a ploy for attention so that they could get their actual talking points out, it was a terrible ploy. No one will care what you have to say once they realize you're over-reacting and fabricating controversy. Attacking him over something he didn't even say will not make people sit up and listen to your side, it will only make them roll their eyes at how ridiculous you are. I really wish he hadn't published this idiotic letter because it detracts from the message they need to get out there. I cringed as soon as I saw it, and I say that as someone who thinks VFX folks have been treated very badly by Hollywood.
  4. Van Helsing. I've never seen so many people leave a movie in my life. But it was their loss. They missed the big smiling face in the sky that would have made the entire crapfest worth it.
  5. What bothers about the "she wanted it too much" argument, in addition to the points already made above, is that Affleck was just as bad as she was this year (and I say that as a fan of his). And yet he's generally praised for his neediness and desire for outside validation -- I've seen a lot of, "He's adorable and he deserves the Oscar, idgaf what you say," arguments -- whereas she's uniformly criticized. In complete contrast to Affleck, even people who agree that she deserved the Oscar criticize her desire for it, and I do think that for a lot of people, one of the underlying reasons is that women are held to a different standard.
  6. He didn't seem all that surprised until he saw everyone stand up. That was when he really got emotional.
