  1. Like i said the other week in reference to the 'cultural impact' nonsesne. Whether you love AVATAR, or hate it, people cant shut up about it.
  2. I personaly dont think box office performance should have any sway on whether a film wins best picture or not. Maybe if we are talking mega grosses like TGM and A2, and if those films are very good, and the academy wants to show they are intune with the masses, maybe then. Having said that, is Babylon even good enough to be in the running anyway?
  3. Yeah you can def tell by some of the editing that a LOT was cut out, possibly quite late on too to try and get the film down a reasonable length. I hope he doesnt cut the sequels too much. Give me 3+ hours for all of them.
  4. And to add to all of that A2 is going to have a 87mil lead after this weekend, so i dont really get why so many on here feel 700mil is out of reach.
  5. So a 45-46mil weekend then for A2 because i really cant see it dropping under 14mil on Sunday from a 20mil Saturday In fact i bet it hits 15mil Sunday.
  6. I mean Camron was making a movie every 2-3 years until he started planning Titanic. I mean its a bit of irony really as most of us love Titanic but it was that film that really lit his bug for exploring, research, and science. And its the main reason why we have only had AVATAR 1 and 2 since Titanic. I mean he hasnt stopped, he's made multiple docs, produced multiple docs, designed tech, and done multiple explorations. So yeah Titanic is the main reason why he's stuck on 9 movies (dircted, he's produced and written quite a few more).
  7. Well i wont deny that, and that wsnt my intention anyway, i was talking more from a 'summer blockbuster' angle. Its like when a amazing sports star retires in his prime, and you feel its a bit of a waste as he has so much left in the tank, so to speak.
  8. Yeah for sure. Its just a shame for me as Spielberg pretty much created the 'summer blockbuster'. And there was a time where his name was a bigger pull than even grade A actors. These days its more like 'Spielberg?, is he still making movies?'. I wouldnt like to say its a waste of talent and a career, as he has had an amazing career overall. Just a bit of a lame last 20 years for me, and a bit of a waste of a man that has an amazing imagination and knack of what the audience likes. Cameron has basically overtaken him now, in that sense.
  9. Spielberg was my fave for a lot of years, all through my childhood., teens, and early 20's. For whatever reason he decided to start making more personal films 20 years ago (with the odd exception of course), and its a shame as he's 74 now and probably doesnt have many summer blockbusters left in him, if he even wanted to make them anyway.
  10. The Fabelmans has a 40mil budget, and is going to make 20mil WW. Not often you see something like that with a SS film.
  11. Brainbug dont hate me for this post - Its crazy really after what some people thought was a bit of a underwhelming and dissapointing 483mil WW OW for A2, after this 4th weekend its going to knock Jurassic World off the 7th spot on the 'Biggest movie of all time' WW list. .
  12. Therr is a 2D showing starting in 30mins at my local multiplex. 250 seater, 241 tickets sold so far. Thats better than on the OW for the 2D showings!. Got a feeling this film is just going to chug along internationally for a good while yet. 1.6-1.7bil intrnational total?, wouldnt be surprised.
  13. Its a shame we get Friday numbers a day before the weekend numbers. It means 5000 incoming clickbait vids of A2 being beaten by a killer doll movie, and zero vids done after the weekend when A2 will win the weekend by 10-15mil.
  14. I was going to go today but all the 3D shows were pretty full when i checked this morning, outside of the first row and the ends. Probably go next week i think.
  15. Unrelated to this domestic thread but i have been checking my local multiplex since A2 releazed, and for whatever reason the film is doing better this weekend than last weekend. Shows are higher, especially the 2D shows for some reason. I'm expecting a good international hold this weekend. Think this is the weekend where international finaly breaks the 70/30 split with domestic.
  16. Not going to lie, PG13 M3GAN worried me, especially after those reviews, but it looks like it wont of had that much effect on A2's weekend. I predicted 48mil when i thought M3GAN would have zero effect on A2 (as thats what people were saying on here, counter programing and all that), and in reality its going to be in the 42-44mil range. So yeah a small effect, but i guess people on here were half right.
  17. lol the estimate always goes up in the end. Wouldnt be surprised if the final number hits 12mil. 42-44mil weekend.
  18. Going to stick to 48 that i put in the 4th weekend prediction thread. Its probably right at the high end,and yes M3GAN may of stolen a bit of its weekend, but still we havent even had the Friday number yet, it could surprise us Brother Sheldon!.
  19. Jesus Christ James Cameron That is why he's the second coming of dirctors, and understands the masses so well.
