Going to be one of the biggest February weekends of all time, will it be the biggest even with no Valentine's until Tuesday?

Reviews will have zero influence. People watching this know that it is trash.
Agreed, it could literally be 0% and it won't matter. We all knew it was going to drop from the first but still have enough interest to do very well because of its fanbase.

lol I'm only seeing this just because of my significant other. The perk is that it's not coming out of wallet (since I'm covering the tickets for LEGO Batman as part of a double feature).
Wait not John Wick 2? If you guys are doing this I'm surprised you wouldn't counter with Keanu.

Is anyone seeing this without a significant other (not being sexist but this obviously directed at our straight male members)? I'd love to hear why...

I don't know if Universal is just the distributor or they purchased right for $ and a % but most of that money will probably be rolling toward Shamalyan. He "self-financed Split for under $10 million to retain creative control".
I love the gamble especially given how low his stock was. Will pay off massively... gets to crow about that ROI once again.

Is that Split $9m budget correct? Holy shit if so for Comcast/Universal. It's non stop profit over the last week and beyond.

Emma with Isabelle Huppert as a distant second.
Distant third, it's really Stone & Portman & that's it.

I saw it for a second time and really hope Stone wins for Best Actress.
She's the 5/6 favorite according to the betting odds. Portman is close at 2/1.

Wtf is your problem seriously? I have literally all of my notifications settings off so it's a bug. Thanks for being a douche though.

Uhhhhhhhhh no its not.

You said it, guy from the Bay Area.
Yeah because I'm so liberally biased... lmao.

To put La La Land in the same league as Titanic, Ben Hur, ROTK (due to the amount of noms) is a joke and the media will definitely focus in on that since it's such a weak year. That's my opinion but I'd bet I'm not alone.

Well, I fucking loved it and I've never set a foot in Hollywood, but hey, it's always fun to see people call a certain movie overrated. It's fine, I would call many of the movies some of you loved overrated myself, it's just opinions.
lol @ that political conversation around it by the way
Hollywood lives in one of the biggest bubbles in the country & their support didn't help Hillary get elected. Fair or foul? I get this is a bit off topic here but do you understand the point? It's all subjective on quality of this film so those arguments don't really resolve themselves.

eh I don't think celebrities had much to do with it. Trump is also a celebrity (although his stupid fans forget thaT) I really don't think celebrities endorsing Hillary had anything to do with his win.
Agree to disagree, look at how his supporters reacted went he went after Streep. They loved it.

Please, Trump is a reality TV star "billionaire" celebrity who slobbers all over himself. It would be hard to find anyone more up their own gilded twittering ass.
La La Land was a technically beautifully made film so I'm not surprised at most of the nominations even if I didn't care for the music and thought it mostly just OK with some great parts.
Hollywood represents the elite and Trump doesn't. I know that sounds crazy given the facts but that's not the perception. Look it's not a point about the quality of La LA Land more how hollywood is obsessed with itself and their bubble is as prominent as any in the country.

lol trump didn't win because of celebrities lol but it is pathetic I agree.
Actually I would say the sentiment of La La Land and it's nostalgic throwback to musicals to the 30-50's is a similar sentiment that got Trump elected. People longing for a "better time"
But yeah there's no way this loses this is basically a love letter to hollywood.
Actually he did lol. The election was a total rebuke of elitism which is why all the celebrities supporting Hillary had a negative effect in her motivating voters/drove people to Trump. I know it seems petty but remember this guy is famous for reality TV.

It's s self congratulatory film about hollywood. 14 noms is expected. Hollywood adores movies about itself.
It's pathetic & a part of this feeling is why Trump got elected. Celebrities slobbering all over themselves isn't a good look thesedays sorry.
-
Can we now unofficially call this overrated in a weak year for awards? It was a cute film but 14 nominations is a joke I'm sorry.
