holy everloving fuck. the entire sequence where the boy went deaf from shelling was beyond description. the audio design was unbelievable. then, the entire sequence with the nazi burning was again utterly horrific. the ending with hitler was clearly a simplistic and hate-fuelled anti-fascist statement on behalf of the soviets, but given what preceded it, it was completely earned. insane and incredible. my jaw actually dropped when the nazis were taking their photo.

Also it is not because it is violent.

 

It is the background and the emotion and the events you see.

 

Then it hits you at the end, 'OMG this all really happened"
