Blankments
This has been one of my weird side projects for the past few months. I realized that some HBO movies, if released in theaters, would definitely be major Oscar contenders (namely Game Change and Behind the Candelabra). So I was wondering... what if they were theatrically released films? Well, my answer to that came out to be the following. I looked at won Globes and Emmies, and figured if they won that, they would've been nominated at the Oscars. 2010 Best Picture 127 Hours Black Swan The Fighter Inception The Kids Are All Right The King’s Speech The Social Network Temple Grandin Toy Story 3 True Grit Best Director Ethan Coen and Joel Coen, True Grit David Fincher, The Social Network Tom Hooper, The King’s Speech Mick Jackson, Temple Grandin David O. Jake Gittes
Claire Danes might have won for Temple Grandin over Portman (or over Bullock in 2009 if the film had been released two months earlier). Douglas vs McConaughey would have been interesting too.
CoolioD1
I think Julianne Moore would have an Oscar by now. She would have easily got it in that 2012 line-up. Aside from that I don't know if much changes. Behind the Candelabra was theatrically released in the UK and Michael Douglas got snubbed. It's not like they ignored the film either since it got a screenplay nod and Matt Damon got nominated in supporting actor.
