  1. You did not. As I walked out from our (maybe 30% occupied) IMAX screening last night, I thought of a more appropriate title. Fantastic Beasts: Empty Calories. Which I find more and more offensive as it sits on me. This was delayed several times. Even after Crimes of Grindelwald underperformed and they had to regroup and hit pause. To watch this, one doesn't feel any "reassessment" went down. This would have been the same film we got in 2020 especially with the thrust of the plot centering around an election and it being rigged by the baddies. Oh. How. TOPICAL, Jo! Learned absolutely nothing and placed all the "Don't worry, we listened y'all!" narrative on firing Depp. If anything, the epilogue felt like a total reshoot/pick-up. Like how a TV show doesn't know if it's getting another season so they do the season finale in such a way it would also serve as a series finale?
  2. A one-and-done Force Awakens reunion film with the three leads firmly remaining front and center followed by a Hogwarts: The Next Generation series on HBO Max headlined by... Matthew Lewis.
  3. The Batman was a failure propaganda yet again (from the same minority group that knows a thing or twenty about failure)?
  4. Personally I hate the idea of a Potter sequel. Something to be said about telling a complete story that definitively ends and then leave it the Hell alone. We can revisit it, pass it down to our kids and cherish it for the special gift we were blessed to receive. But this is the entertainment industry. Nothing ever really ends (with rare exceptions). It just takes time off. Realistically they're gonna go for it because Potter is their biggest money printer besides Batman.
  5. I get that. But in this business, everyone has a price. None of them need the cash. They're beyond set for life based on their salaries on the latter era sequels. Dan and Rupert are working for the sake of working and I didn't know Emma hit pause. But one can imagine any offer would be in the realm of "Your great great grandkids are set for life." My guess is Rowling will be tabled as she was from the HBO Max special and they will move mountains to get Cuaron to direct (He was this close to directing Fantastic Beasts but didn't want to helm another VFX-laden production immediately after Gravity).
  6. Yeah if it does $500M, they can (somehow) justify it in their own minds. No way they can do so with $400M. Can't effectively spin another $200M worldwide drop from the last installment which itself dropped $200M from the first installment. All the while each film gets pricier.
  7. He should have been the focus of Fantastic Beasts instead of Redmayne mugging and colorful weirdoing across the screen.
  8. Warner Bros. hasn't officially announced The Batman sequel either. Which I kinda suspect could be at CinemaCon next week.
  9. I'm thinking borderline $40M. Just booked IMAX Friday night tickets for my lovely love wife and I (Movie Date Night) and it was maybe 20% occupied.
  10. It kinda serves them right. Throwing Depp under the bus and blamed FB2's underperformance 100% on him. Was he box-office poison by then? Absolutely. But putting it squarely on him instead of reassessing everything internally was atrocious. They deserve this.
  11. To be fair, that's in this universe. Most of the other multiverse agree that this is cinema's finest work and, fuck it, they're not wrong.
  12. We all knew Ambulance was doomed when Film Twitter was cheerleading it so hard (after how they spent years shitting all over Bay). Happy for Everything Everywhere All At Once. One of the rarest of rare films that exceeded it's own incredibly high expectations/hype. Not since Get Out. We saw it Friday night here in NOLA and our audience loved it.
  13. Feels like they sidelined Redmayne from his own franchise not unlike how they did Martin Freeman in the latter Hobbit entries.
  14. Have to imagine Harry Potter getting its own Force Awakens within the next few years. Except the original leads won't be pushed to the side for newbies. Followed by a HBO Max series, a la Hogwarts: The Next Generation with returning players in supporting roles. That's how I see this going down. We shall see.
  15. Me personally. I think this hitting $100M domestic qualifies as proof of God's existence. Feel like this is all leading to the inevitable. Not The Cursed Child but Harry Potter Returns. Their equivalent to The Force Awakens (if Luke, Han and Leia remained the leads). Can't not imagine that happening within the next 3-4 years.
