  1. 11th - Eye of the Tiger - Rocky 3 191 Points - 0 FIRST, 0 Top 5 Vote, 2 top 10 The ultimate Rocky song from the 4th best Rocky film (maybe) You gotta love a Rocky Song. They really knew how to put a song into their film series whether it is Gonna Fly Now, this, or Living in America. I never watched A Team so know nothing about its cultural impact or any lasting effect on TV and film, but that being said, I really do pity and fool that hasn't watched the Rocky series (You can potentially give 5 a miss) and the great songs that went with them.
  2. 12th - I'll Make a Man Out of You - Mulan 182 Points - 0 FIRST, 2 Top 5 Vote, 1 top 10 The second best song on this list ends up 12th. For Shame!!! Let's get down to business and defeat the maniacs that for whatever reason did not vote for this! This is the song lads and ladettes (I mean bar, the true number 1), This is the greatest montage ever, this is the greatest hype song ever, and it is just the best thing and one day it will make the top 10 as is its destiny. Also, quick bonus, if you think Jackie doing the song is something special, check out his piece de resistance:
  3. 13th - Deliver Us - The Prince of Egypt 181 Points - 0 FIRST, 2 Top 5 Vote, 2 top 10 The only song outside the top 8 to receive 4 to 10 votes. Did I mention before that this film has a rabid fanbase of people that consider it among the creme de la creme of animation. This song made a really big play for the top 10 at times before finally falling away as the last few lists forsaked, forsakened, forsook? it. Like I said before, this is a strong song, from a film with a strong soundtrack. I may not consider it top 20 fare, but I respect it.
  4. 14th - Pure Imagination - Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory 179 Points - 0 FIRST, 0 Top 5 Vote, 1 top 10 Does this count as a villain song? I'm kind of pleasantly surprised that this somehow made it this high. I mean, it felt odds on for the top 100, but when when Mary Poppins, Sound of Music, and the ilk cannot breach the top 40, this making 14th just feels like a big overreach and I am very okay with that as it is a lovely little song that introduces the factory.
  5. 15th - When you Wish Upon a Star - Pinocchio 177 Points - 1 FIRST, 0 Top 5 Vote, 0 top 10 The defacto Disney theme song plummets to a dismal 15th. One of the absolute OGs of Disney musical songs, Pinocchio continues its run in the top 20 despite this being the lowest ever placing to my memory. It is a classic piece of Disney soundtrack and even if it is in reality a pretty slow, pretty dull, dirge, it is still an all time well known song that will definitely outlive nonsense such as whatever I may be writing.
  6. 16th - The Man that Got Away - A Star is Born 177 Points - 0 FIRST, 1 Top 5 Vote, 2 top 10 This is from the... second Star is Born? Third one? When there are so many Star is Borns out there, it makes sense that multiple versions of the film can contribute songs to the top 100. This also continues the 20th century's strong run of songs in this top 20 so far, with only Shrek flying the flag for team 21st century like the bally hero that it is.
  7. 17th - The Power of Love - Back to the Future 174 Points - 0 FIRST, 1 Top 5 Vote, 1 top 10 The Smash Mouth of the 80s. Another great opening song to another great film that is beloved by a generation. I am pleasantly surprised to see this song do so well as I thought that it would maybe top out in the 50s somewhere. As it goes, it has broken into the top 20, and I am very much here for this.
  8. 18th - All Star - Shrek 168 Points - 1 FIRST, 0 Top 5 Vote, 0 top 10 May as well finish here. This is the peak of any list right now. All jokes aside, this is a great opening song that has become synonymous with the Wayne Rooney franchise. Shrek has a bit of an odd life seeing as it began as a subversion of Disney tropes before slowly falling more and more into the molds it was trying to break. But, it will always have All Star, the best Smash Mouth song to ever feature in a film.
  9. 19th - America - West Side Story 165 Points - 0 FIRST, 0 Top 5 Vote, 1 top 10 Classic Musicals have returned it seems. Not sure if the 2021 remake helped or hindered this placement on the list, but either way, it is another song from the world of classic Hollywood musicals making an appearance and a strong appearance too, being in the top 20 as it is. As for me, I think it's kind of fine.
  10. 20th - Ghostbusters - Ghostbusters 158 Points - 0 FIRST, 0 Top 5 Vote, 0 top 10 I believe that this is the highest ranking game to not get a top 10 vote. It's a classic. What else can be said more than just this is one of the ultimate movie theme songs. It may not be a film that adds to a scene or elicits emotions connected to moments in the film, but it is still an ultimate movie theme song and a solid start to the top 10.
  11. 21st - Star Spangled Man - Captain America The First Avenger 157 Points - 0 FIRST, 0 Top 5 Vote, 0 top 10 Ah, so the MCU's like 3rd... 4th worst film had a song in it. Cool. It's hard to remember the specific parts of a very forgettable film, but look at all the pretty people in all their spangly outfits. If this is the auld god that we have to satiate in order to get Scotty Doesn't Know and Every Sperm onto the list, then so be it.
  12. 22nd - Let it Go - Frozen 153 Points - 0 FIRST, 0 Top 5 Vote, 1 top 10 From one religion to another... I lose track of films like this, Is Frozen currently going through an underrated phase or an overrated phase? Either way, as an English teacher of small children in Korea, I heard this song...a lot. Somehow, I never managed to find myself hating it, even when little Minji was belting out the one verse they knew over and over. Therefore, I have to accept it is a pretty solid song.
  13. 23rd - When You Believe - The Prince of Egypt 153 Points - 1 FIRST, 1 Top 5 Vote, 1 top 10 Remember when Dreamworks made super cool 2D animated musicals that made no money? I like Prince of Egypt. I like it a lot. There seems to be a base of folks out there that consider this film an all timer and I cannot say that I am there with them, but it has a bunch of great songs, and a really strong story and set of performances. Also, and I am not a Christian so not the best person to claim this, but this might be the best film ever made that also works as a way to teach some elements of Christianity and Bible history to kids.
  14. 24th - Shallow - A Star is Born 146 Points - 0 Top 5 Vote, 0 top 10 When a musical has been remade 47 times, you expect a song or two to make the list. To be fair this was a great song in a generally great film. I don't begrudge it being in the top 25 at all really. It is another piece of evidence that whether you like her usual musical stylings or not, Lady Gaga may well be one of the most talented musical people of this century. And Bradley Cooper was there too.
  15. 25th - Mad World - Donnie Darko 141 Points - 0 Top 5 Vote, 1 top 10 Time to perk up the mood a bit. Never saw Donnie Darko, the more I see of it, the more put off by it I am, to the point that it has taken a week to muster up the energy to talk about it here. Mad World is a fair cover of Tears for Fears so it has that going for it,
  16. 26th - Holding Out For a Hero - Shrek 2 136 Points - 0 Top 5 Vote, 0 top 10 We have hit peak 'list' now. You try to make a serious list that examines the artistic integrity of musical score and soundtracks within the highest forms of art cinema. You wish to discuss the reasoning behind choosing a Jazz quartet number over something more sedate and soulful. Then what happens? This fucking happens! And in fell swoop, the list becomes... perfect. Bless all of you for voting as this scene is a highlight from one of the best animated sequels out there and while I still would put hallelujah from the first film ahead of this one, I am not upset at all that cookie colossus gets a moment to shine.
  17. 27th - Constant Sorrow - Oh Brother, Where art Thou 134 Points - 0 Top 5 Vote, 0 top 10 Ah George Clooney, this was back when he was still threatening to be more than an instant coffee salesman right? This film never ever appealed to me so about the only time I ever think about it is when it shows up on these lists every few years. I respond with a simple, "Huh, sure whatever" and then think of some pithy way to discuss its placement in the countdown itself.
  18. 28th - As Time Goes By - Casablanca 134 Points - 0 Top 5 Vote, 0 top 10 Of all the songs in all the world, you had to walk into mine... wait that doesn't work. The best film of all time has its most famous song enter at 28th. Famously not preceded by the line, "Play it again Sam", this is one of the oldest songs on the list. It surely is impossible to be mad at the inclusion of this at the upper echelons of a top 100 list.
  19. 29th - Take my Breath Away - Top Gun 132 Points - 0 Top 5 Vote, 1 top 10 Whatever happened to the Top Gun franchise eh? Well would you look at that, some nostalgia choices still sticking in the top 30 despite the brutal rise of the 21st century. It is a great little theme song and I look forward to hearing the Pitball and Nicki Minaj revamped version when Maverick comes out.
  20. 30th - Rainbow Connection - The Muppet Movie 131 Points - 0 Top 5 Vote, 1 top 10 Surely the other side of a rainbow is just also the rainbow. I mean, the existence of Muppet Christmas Carol means that this is only really about the 4th best Muppet song out there. However, as Christmas only enters peoples heads between August and December, we have to make do with the frog strumming away by a river and it is still a lovely little ditty.
  21. 31st -Friend Like Me - Aladdin 129 Points - 1 Top 5 Vote, 1 top 10 I added the right version this time. From one of the best emotional songs of my adulthood, we now have one of the best fun songs from my childhood. Robin Williams brings the energy at 1000% to introduce one of Disney's most beloved and iconic characters and the only complaint I can have is that it is not higher.
  22. 32nd -Remember Me - Coco 127 Points - 1 Top 5 Vote, 0 top 10 One of the best uses of a song as part of a story narrative well, ever. I love this film. I love this song. I love the way that this song is presented in like 3 different forms at three different moments in the film and I just... I just think it is the most emotive song from a Disney film in a long long time. Should be higher though. Really should be higher.
  23. 33rd -Tiny Dancer - Almost Famous 124 Points - 1 Top 5 Vote, 0 top 10 Spoilers for the ending of a film that is what? 20? 30 years old? For the second time in like 5 placements, we have a song that ends a film and takes place on a bus. Obviously a great song because Elton John is...well possibly the best musical artist of all time. Another song that can regularly be seen in lists of best song moments in cinema, that cannot crack our lists top 20 or 30.
  24. 34th -Cabaret - Cabaret 123 Points - 2 Top 5 Vote, 0 top 10 This song lies as my life is clearly not singing, dancing, burlesque shows While many other musicals of the 20th century are struggling to maintain spots in the top 100, Cabaret still seems to be holding strong with its top 100 representation. What better way celebrate a film's 50th anniversary than by placing it 34th in a top 100 list on a movie forum somewhere on the internet?
  25. 35th -Can You Feel the Life Tonight - Lion King 122 Points - 1 Top 5 Vote, 0 top 10 The song featuring the sexiest Lion Eyes in cinema I am surprised that this ended up in the 30s as I genuinely felt that this could have been a challenger to the absolute top spot. As the big love song to the biggest of all the Disney animated musicals, maybe there is a movement that will allow another Disney Musical to be the top animated finisher.
