  1. I just said I don't understand the appeal outside that demo, not that it's not there. It apparently is.

And I'll continue to be the resident hater for it here since someone always has to be for a movie. :P

I think you'll have to find yourself a teen age girl and go see it again.

I actually enjoyed it more the 2nd time because I could take the time to appreciate the animation.

I actually think that Disney Animation Studios has caught up to Pixar Studios in many areas of animation.  Their snow and ice effects were amazing as was the hair in tangled.

  2. Yeah in truth I don't even hate it (gave it a C+) I just think it's been terribly overrated. I really don't understand the appeal outside of young girls.

Certainly everyone is going to have their likes and dislikes.

But you should realize when you are obviously in the minority.

I don't like the Lion King but I realize that 99% of the population does so I don't go around saying its lousy.  I just realize I personally don't like it.

  3. haha.  Granted, I will see Pixar movies in a heartbeat because they appeal to all ages.  However, from what I've seen of Frozen, I think I'm outside the target demographic (mid 30s and wrong gender too). :)

LOL - I'm 50 and male and I've paid to see it 3 times.

IMO I'd put it's appeal closer to a Pixar movie then I would to movie like Tangled or PatF

  4. Don't people realize by now that being disappointed by pre-Christmas numbers for new openers is a futile enteprise? Every year this happens and then those disappointing openings are made irrelevant by the force that is Christmas Day and the days after.

    No dammit.

I saw  2 movies today... everyone should have.

I will not be happy until my movie kicks every other movies ass.

  5. Fantastic movie and I give it an A

As a Disney freak and big Mary Poppins fan I was real interested to get more detail on how the movie came about.

While I knew a bit about Travers I did not know she had such a hard childhood.

The movie was very emotional with the flashbacks.

Hanks and Emma were fantastic.... I hope they win awards for this.

I have read the books and saw the stage play.

In the stage play Banks was cruel... borderline abusive.  The books.... not much better.  In the movie he is more neglectful.

    Now I understand why.

However  Disney did provide a more happy ending then what really happened.

Travers did cry during the premier.  But it was because she was unable to stop the animation from being in the film... not from receiving closer as the movie suggests. .

Not feeling sorry for her... she received 5%.

    Still a great movie.

  6. Also, same analysis for Frozen (vs. Tangled) has it 15.7% ahead, which is on pace for 297.2M.  It's making significant gains on that in the last week, and that should continue, 20% should be rather easy, and 25% will have it on pace for 320M.

No matter how excited we got this week 300M is still the goal.

For me... as a Disney freak... beating UP is the goal.

  7. If Frozen follows Tangled for rest of the weekend.

    5.2M Friday

    9.05M Saturday

    6.70M Sunday

    20.95M(-7.3%).

If Frozen followed TS2 for rest of the weekend.

    5.2M Friday

    9.79M Saturday

    7.32M Sunday

    22.31M(-1.3%)

And so far it has held better than both every weekend so it wouldn't be shocking if it actually increased this weekend.

22M was the number I was hoping for but did want to be laughed out of the forum.

    No laughing now..

  8. Frozen is ridiculous.  That's about  a 25% jump from last Thursday.

I'm not a box office expert but...

Its a great family movie with great WOM and no real competition.

People that have not seen it are being told to see it.

People that have seen it are looking for excuses to see it again.

After spending $1000 bucks on Johnny's presents Dad wants a sure bet movie for the family to see.

I see a big week next week.

    ---

Tron lightship battle is amazing... wish I could see this movie on the big screen again.

  9. DoS increase!!!!!!!

Nice.  Not sure A2 is great but since I'm a BO virgin I don't really know.

End of Line scene in Tron.

A month after I saw Tron in the theaters I went to Disneyland and they had the 'ElecTRONica' event at the DCA park.  It was fantastic.

It shows how Disney has such an advantage in tying movies with their other properties.
