I still feel that we need to owe Guardians' really massive opening to ROCKET RACCOON!!! That is so much fun to say.
If your drama is tracking to open to dismal numbers, just add ROCKET RACCOON!!!! $50M+ opening guaranteed.
Pride & Prejudice & Rocket Raccoon.
I'd finally be able to tolerate a Jane Austen movie.

I'm kind of hoping that if Elektra is in the show, she's who Dawson is playing.

50 Shades of Grey was originally supposed to open this weekend. I wonder if it would have hurt GOTG.
Hmm, maybe a bit? That movie seems like it'll skew very heavily to adult females, though. Like Magic Mike-esque levels. It wouldn't be like when 22JS or Hangover opened against HTTYD and KFP, where both mommy and daddy leave the kids with a sitter and go see it. Mommy may go see 50 Shades, but I think daddy would still take the kids to GOTG.

This Summer has been big a disappointment boxoffice-wise, but definitely not quality-wise. There's no film in Summer 2013 that was better than Edge of Tomorrow, Godzilla (Haters can hate), X-Men: DOFP, How To Train Your Dragon 2, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and now Guardians of the Galaxy! I hope Sin City 2 will be the next one.
I have really, really low expectations for Sin City. Snow Piercer was another great one though, even if it was just a limited domestic release.

I kinda hope not.

This massive OW for GOTG showed Marvel's true brand power, now is the time to make BP and Captain Marvel.
Hell, now is the time to make Squirrel Girl and SuperPro.

Or they could Puerto Rico it and I wouldn't care.
I wouldn't either, especially after the fudge-job again this year.

I like that 2014 stat. Might finish the year with 7 or 8.
I'd think 7 is a sure thing.

What is Jesse Venturia highest grossing movie?
Shot in the dark, but probably Predator.

Never thought of that. If there is a holiday on Monday, do Sundays historically do better than usual ?
Yeah a bit. Though with schools already out of session, it probably won't help as much as it would during the school year. Or at least I'm assuming schools in Canada are out for the summer still.
-
Is GOTG tracking close to $100 million ?
With Monday being a Holiday in most of Canada, it will affect the box office by at least a million or so, as people may choose to watch the film on Monday instead.
Also, the Monday box office will be higher than usual due to the Holiday.
That'll probably help its Sunday hold a little, too.

lol @ GotG and Cap 2 beating every summer movie.
I don't think anybody saw that coming. Especially not Guardians. That was at the bottom of the list for most folks CBM predictions.

Dat increase!What the...
I think ecstasy called it. Earlier Thursday previews depressed Friday which would make for a bigger Saturday increase.

"Let's make a SW-esque movie featuring a band of lovable ne'er-do-wells." How is that a big risk? It's only a risk compared to something like TA2 or SW7.
Aren't the late 70's-early 80's littered with the corpses of such films? Hell, more recently, how well did it work out for Firefly/Serenity?

Depending how fast DC is building their cinematic universe, they could still make a Wonder Woman movie before Marvel does a female-led movie.
Maybe. The earliest DC could start work on a WW movie is after Justice League. At least so far as shooting is concerned.

I feel like people want a BW movie just so we can say we have a Marvel female movie. She really doesnt need one, at all. Ms Marvel does.
I want Widow and Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk.

I also read somewhere that there's also some sort problem which means Fox can't connect their separate properties (F4, Xmen, Deadpool) without Marvel consent. I wonder if it plays a factor in the future.
I hope that's the case. I remember there was a lot of talk after Avengers came out, they brought on Millar to sort of be their Whedon-lite, but lately I've read some stuff from Kinberg that sounded like he was walking that whole idea back.

"Original" vs. "Adapted" is neither positive or negative. It merely indicates whether the movie is based on a previously published story or characters.
"Original" meaning "truly unique" is obviously a different beast... it's also almost unheard of in movies (in general, let alone blockbusters). Something like UNDER THE SKIN qualifies as something "original" (unique), for example, but it is not an original production, since it's based on a novel.
Under the Skin is a book adaptation, no?
Ah, you edited it. Anyway, I wouldn't count it as original, its an adaptation. Same goes for Frozen, or Guardians of the Galaxy, or Snowpiercer.

So does original mean no source material involved or not a reboot/remake/sequel?Or both?
Near as I can tell, what it means depends on whether the person is a fan of the property being discussed or not.

The story is original in the sense that it's not taken from the comics. Just the characters and setting are.

Say what you will about FOX but I think it's really cool that FANTASTIC FOUR wrapped production and we don't have a single plot detail or a set image or whatever leaves fanboys and fangirls frothing at the mouth.
We do have a couple of set images, its just that nobody cared that much.

I want to see GALACTUS and SS again.
I'd settle for seeing Galactus a first time. Space Clouds don't count.

Man Thing is also back at Marvel, so that diagram is wrong.
It's old. Namor film rights are with Marvel as well, though I don't know if distribution rights are, too.

From what I hear, its 3D is quite a bit better than the typical Marvel 3D efforts. I rather liked it, at any rate, but it's the only Marvel film I've seen in 3D so I can't compare.
