  1. Pretty good start for Paper Planes! Should end up around $5m all up, which is good for an Australian film. Still 10 films over $1m! That is the equivalent of 10 films in America hitting $10m in a weekend
  2. Going to be another massive weekend for the Australian box office, well up over last year. Movie (Thur-Sat) (Total) Taken 3 ($2.0m) ($9.8m) Into the Woods ($1.5m) ($7.2m) Unbroken ($1.5m) ($1.7m) Paper Planes ($1.3m) ($1.4m) The Imitation Game ($1.2m) ($11.2m)
  3. This would be box office right? If so do you have access to one for admissions?
  4. I think it's now been overshadowed by everything else and is losing its bigger screens.
  5. Thursday to Saturday was crazy for us! Sunday dropped for Victoria but the rest of the country made up for us No more crazy weather down here this week so it should be back to normal holiday numbers, especially if today is anything to by.
  6. Movie (Thur-Sat) (Total) Taken 3 ($4.2m) ($4.3m) Into the woods ($2.7m) ($2.8m) Dumb and Dumber To ($2.0m) ($2.0m) The Hobbit ($2.0m) ($28.6m) Penguins ($1.8m) ($8.3m)
  7. I can't remember the numbers, but it's doing pretty decently in #2. I'll update with numbers soon
  8. $1.3m again for Taken across Australia for a total of $2.6m. Looking like a $5m OW.
  9. $1.3m opening day for Taken. Victoria dominating the box office with over 30% market share for Thursday. Probably because of our 36C sun, hail, thunder and rain
  10. Fantastic for Imitation Game, Water Diviner and Big Hero 6. Not so good for penguins..
  11. Movie (Thur-Sat) (Total) Hobbit ($4.9m) ($22.6m) Imitation Game ($3.2m) ($3.4m) Penguins ($2.8m) ($3.5m) Big Hero 6 ($2.5m) ($9.6m) Water diviner ($2.1m) ($7.8m)
  12. Also The Hobbit as of yesterday (Friday) is on $21m. Imitation Game was around $2.8m, Penguins is around $2.1m and Big Hero 6 is just over $8m.
  13. And it's officially the busiest day at work since I started there a few years back. And there are the 8:30-9:30 sessions still to go!
  14. Our admits today are even higher than Tuesday due to the 41C heat in Melbourne. So expect huge grosses from Victoria.
  15. Let this year be #1 for admissions! I feel it has a decent chance if the mid level films hold up too.
  16. My guess would be that Christmas is not a very big movie day outside of the US and since it was part of the OS weekend (thur-sun) it decreased the numbers. And you have $2.5m less in Australia just because of the way the days line up.
  17. Rth, any chance we could see the theatre engagement for yesterday?
  18. Its more the sudden changes from 45C to 13C in a matter of hours which gets people. We don't really get cold ever, it usually gets down to 2-3C on a winters night and 13-15C on a summers night. Though some nights in summer can go as high as 30C.
  19. I love the Melbourne weather! Though 13C tonight for NYE is definitely a bit chilly. I was in L.A. in October and it was 28-32 and sunny every day, it got so boring!
  20. If the weather heats up more next Tuesday in Melbourne it might be even bigger. Friday and Saturday are going to be crazy too! 37C and 38C!
  21. I have no numbers on me, but from how insanely busy it was at work today we could see some big numbers. Obviously it is cheap tuesday so the average ticket place is much lower, but we were about 15-20% up from boxing day admissions.
  22. Hobbit is now at $14.3m and Big Hero 6 is now at $5.1m after yesterday Night at the Museum is at $4m.
  23. Everyday except boxing day is pretty equal around this time, so it's pretty equal with DOS.
