  1. actuals probably Wednesday but it seems there were definitely 5 releases >100k: #1 Black Adam 200k #2 Rheingold 172k #3 Die Schule der magischen Tiere2 137k #4 Der Nachname 115k #5 Smile 110k seems like there was a strong Sunday - and let's not forget there's strong weekdays too, this week!
  2. strong opening for Rheingold, maybe it can get even higher with actuals. Nice to see so many domestic releases in the charts!
  3. First weekend estimates for Germany from insidekino.de: #1: Black Adam - 200k admissions (-25%, good) #2: SDdmT 2 - 140k (-27%) #3/4: opener Rheingold or Der Nachname with 115k each #5: Smile - about 100k, would be fantastic to have 5 releases >100k!

Black Adam has a shot at 1mil total but with strong competition, probably not. Die Schule der magischen Tiere 2 lost its lead but is on its way to a total well north of 2mil, super hold once more! Ticket to Paradise finally crossed 1mil, strong legs! Pretty similar results in Austria (Ticket is already at 170k here). Next weekend: No big openers, so holdovers should see nice drops, especially, of course, horror releases!
  5. you have to remember that in Germany, Thursday is included in the weekend numbers. And those anime night events are mainly Wed+Thu. So, last weekend was inflated thanks to an extremely strong Thursday, that's not the case this weekend.
  6. First estimates for Germany from insidekino.de: #1: Black Adam - 250k incl. previews #2: DSdmT 2 - 175k (-34%) #3/4: Smile - 140k (-43%); Nachname (150k, pretty similar to Vorname) #5: Halloween Ends - 75k (-54%, ouch)
  7. Those 3,7mil admissions are really good but they do pale a bit compared to Austria's 590k - while you can't compare the markets with a straight 1:10, even the usual 1:9 would put Maverick at >5,3mil in Germany if it was as popular there as it is here. If 3,7mil for Germany are "amazing", I don't know what word you would apply to Austria's number As for Minions2 - Germany's now >4mil are a very good result, but in Austria, it's also still in release and is now very very close to 530k. Btw, "Guglhupfgeschwader", very successful in Germany as the one with most admissions in the franchise, is more than doubling Germany's result in Austria with now very close to 300k admissions.

One Piece Film - Red showed the potential of anime releases - especially when you look at the ticket prices, fans are obviously ready to pay premium for such events! Halloween Ends had a super opening for this franchsie and still didn't make the Top3, because holdovers Die Schule der magischen Tiere 2 and surprise hit Smile both had an increase! Longrunners Minions 2 (crossed 4mil this week) and Top Gun Maverick both showed that their runs are not over yet. Arthouse release Triangle of Sadness had a nice PTA. In Austria, also an excellent weekend, with both Horror releases, Ticket and Triangle doing even better, while the One Piece Film didn't score like in Germany (still a good performance). Next weekend: The wide openers will be Black Adam (slow presales here) and Der Nachname (comedy sequels are difficult to predict but might miss the mark by a lot as we've seen with the 2nd Känguru movie). Let's see if one of these can make the Top3, and how well the horror holdovers perform as we're getting near halloween! Smile's performance has been nothing but astonishing so far …
  9. final weekend estimates a bit lower for many releases but Ticket went up to 97,5k ... only a little bit more and we would see 5 releases >100k admissions!
  10. first weekend estimates from insidekino.de are indeed fantastic: #1: One Piece Film - Red - 275k admissions incl. Wed #2: Smile - 250k (another increase - are you kidding me?!) #3: DSdmT2 - 225k (also wow) #4: Halloween Ends - 150k - good opening #5: Ticket to Paradise - 80k
  11. The One Piece movie is playing much better than Halloween here ... ok, Halloween got nearly twice as many theaters but that might become pretty close among those openers!

That increase for Smile is unheard of among horror releases … in fact, that would be fantastic even for a comedy! Die Schule der magischen Tiere 2 dropped as expected but this 2nd weekend is still about as high as the OW of part 1. And Ticket to Paradise is on a path to well over a million total, fine run! In Austria, Smile's increase was even bigger, otherwise pretty similar numbers. Next weekend: Halloween Ends is the biggest opener. While weekends around halloween are usually capable of carrying two horror releases, the surprisingly strong Smile might bite deeply into Halloween's audiences … we might see horror on #1 and #2 but atrm my bet for #1 would be Smile! Concerning might; there's another release with hit potential: One Piece Film - Red, and at least at my theater, those presales look stronger than Halloween's … so overall, we can expect good weekdays and a strong weekend! And we'll celebrate 4mil total for the Minions!
  13. actuals tomorrow but final weekend numbers were even better than the latest estimates. Smile's WOM must be insane ... in Austria, it increased from a 11k OW to nearly 30k this weekend!
  14. final weekend estimates went up - by a lot! DSdmT now estimated at 235k, Smile 200k - just wow.
  15. weather is better this weekend and Monday a normal workday, so steep drops were to be expected. Smile is doing great, surprise "hit"!

Not only the opening of Die Schule der magischen Tiere 2, but also many holds … Ticket to Paradise went up, seems to have excellent WOM! Minions 2 had an astonishing hold against this opening … Austria's weekend was very similar, with Ticket doing even better here. Next weekend: Domestic drama In einem Land, das es nicht mehr gibt and The Woman King are the "big" openers but both only in limited release, so excellent conditions for holdovers! Weather should be better so probably steep drops but that's to be expected anyway after the long weekend.
  17. that's a really massive start for DSdmT2 ... considering that it's only got afternoon shows, the per-show average must be in blockbuster regions. 2mil total easily doable and 2,5mil would be my bet atm, extremely good for a domestic kiddie movie! (for any domestic movie, really ...)
  18. Final weekend estimates from insidekino.de now have 360-425k for SdmT2, that's an excellent number, a big increase from the first one. While increases like this are quite common for popular teenie "franchises", this one's aimed at younger children, meaning 95% of the tickets are bought by the parents, which usually leads to a much lower rush factor. 2mil total are a real possibility after such an opening. Also in final estimtes: Avatar around 100k so we might get 4 releases >100k (I think Smile's previews were <10k?).
  19. Early weekend estimates from insidekino.de, and there's a good weekend coming it seems; good openers AND good holds! #1: Schule der magischen Tiere 2 - 250-400k admissions (opening higher than #1 which was to be expected) #2: Ticket to Paradise - 150k (+4%, super) #3: Smile - 110k incl previews (might still be 6-digit for Thu-Sun) #4: Avatar - 85k (-24%) #5: Tausend Zeilen - 80k, a bit disappointing but I didn't see much potential for this journalism drama; the real life story behind it wasn't that big or popular - as a comparison, the movie Schtonk made it to >2mil total in 1992 but that was about the infamous forged "Hitler diaries", an extremely popular scandal in its time.
  20. In Austria, Minions could reach 550k total from a 56k OW (but OW in Austria is 3day, compared to Germany's 4day)

Good opening for local drama Mittagsstunde which managed a fine PTA! However, with weather being very movie-friendly atm, the overall numbers are still disappointing, no blockbuster in sight. In Austria, similar results but most releases a bit higher (Ticket to Paradise is already well past 60k here). Next weekend: Finally some bigger openers again: A new horror release with Smile, domestic journalism drama Tausend Zeilen, and a new #1 with the Die Schule der magischen Tiere 2 - a domestic children's book adaption; the first one did really well and a result between 1,5 and 2mil total seems realistic.
  22. As an aside, Guglhupfgeschwader, the 8th installment in the series of Rita Falk crime comedy adaptions, is now the most succesful one with its 1,26mil admissions, overtaking Leberkäsjunkie (6th in the series, 1,24mil total) with still something in the tank! While reviews were a bit mixed and the final multiplier will be lower, the franchise is still gaining new audiences it seems - congratulations!

These kind of movies tend to be leggy so it wouldn't surprise me if Ticket could reach 1mil in the end. In Austria, similar results but the openers were bigger - Ticket >30k! Next weekend: The "biggest" real opener will probably be Don't Worry Darling, but Avatar gets a re-release starting Thursday which seems to sell pretty good, at least it's selling much better than the real opener at my theater!
  24. Ticket to Paradise seems indeed to become #1 for the weekend, surprisingly strong opening! Otherwise, steep drops after the event-inflated numbers last weekend; Crawdads still pretty good though, excellent WOM makes for a very leggy run!
