  1. first weekend estimates from insidekino.de for Germany: #1: Creed 3 - 225k admissions (-45%, steeper than I expected) #2: Sonne und Beton - 175k (-3%, wow - sleeper hit incoming?) #3: Scream 6 - 155k (very good for this franchise) #4: Avatar 23 - 67,5k (-32%) #5: Ant-Man 3 - 60k (-43%)

Also good openings with healthy PTA for Sonne und Beton and arthousy Tár. Puss in Boots 2 has now crossed 2mil total, fine number after the lukewarm opening. Pretty different results in Austria, Creed 3 was even stronger (>50k for the 4-day WE), but on #2 domestic comedy Griechenland with a good hold, should be >100k total by now (already 2 domestic releases over this mark in 2023, fine!) while Sonne und Beton didn't generate much business, it'a more of a northern-Germany theme so no surprise. Moomios and Maurice otoh were twice as strong as in Germany! Next weekend: Scream 6 and The Fabelmans should become the biggest openers but #1 seems unreachable for both and even #2 difficult if Sonne und Beton doesn't crumble. But it seems Avatar2 pulled movie-going back into the general perception, and with those releases widening the audience gamut even more, we might see a very strong overall weekend, even without any new blockbuster!
  3. Creed3 is getting higher and higher ... according to insidekino.de, 410k until Sunday! With the way this kept growing over the weekend, 1mil should be locked and 1,5mil or even higher possible, WOM seems excellent! Nice surprise there.
  4. Sunday update from insidekino.de, it's getting better and better: #1: Creed 3 - 390k #2: Sonne und Beton - 170k #3: Ant-Man 3 - 105k #4: Avatar 2 - 95k #5: ??? - 70k
  5. Saturday update from insidekino.de - Creed3 MUCH higher now, 350k - wow, wow (and it's doing at least as well in Austria)
  6. Thursday was pretty bad for Avatar compared to a week ago so I guess that's the main base for the projection
  7. ok weekend incoming, first estimates from insidekino.de: #1: Creed 3 - 275k admissions #2: Sonne und Beton - 225k #3: Ant-Man 3 - 100k (another steep drop, ugh) #4: Avatar 2 - 80k #5: ??? - 60k only 3 (if at all) releases >100k but at least the openers did better than expected! (Tar also opening in the 60k range)

Not in the Chart: Disney Channel's Mitmachkino which would have made #3 this weekend … In Austria, the weekend was much better, mostly thanks to a strong domestic comedy on #1 - Griechenland - with (by now) >50k admissions; Ant-Man 3 was >20k too, so #2 here was stronger than Germany's #1. Next weekend: No relly big openers again; the strongest domestic crime adaption Sonne und Beton and Creed 3. Also opening: Tar, might attract some business thanks to the awards nominations - keeping the fingers crossed for best editing (Monika Willi, she's been my classmate for 7 years back in "high school")
  9. actuals tomorrow but seems like a 37% drop for Ant-Man 3 while ??? even had an increase ... while it should become the bestselling Ant-Man movie without problems, that's still a bit disappointing.
  10. early weekend estimates fron insidekino.de - with weather turning cool and no big opener, perfect for holdovers: #1: Ant-Man 3 - 200k (-30%, ouch) #2: Avatar2 - 140k (-8%) #3: ??? - 125k (+8%, looks like 1,5mil total are possible) #4/5: Moomios - 75k (+13%), MagicMike3 75k (-5%) Ant-Man's drop has me concerned ... dropping 30% when other releases are having such excellent holds cannot be a good sign.
  11. that's pretty good - 1mil total is about what all those bestseller adaptions for this age group are aiming for and ??? has still got a few 100k in its tank (1.3-1.4mil in the end), so definitely a success and a sequel (though not greenlit yet afaik but the director is looking forwards to it, according to an interview)!

Avatar 2 is now the highest-grossing film in Germany ever, fine. And Die Schule der magischen Tiere 2 continues to collect tickets, week after week … that drop is probably the most surprising number this weekend! In Austria, Ant-Man opened higher (has already crossed 50k total on Monday). Next weekend: What's Love Got to Do with It? should become the biggest opener, maybe enough for #3?
  13. so, Ant-Man 3 clearly below 300k for the 4-day weekend ... still the strongest OW for an Ant-Man movie so far, but the latest Marvel releases all seemed a bit frontloaded; I guess there's a certain fanbase by now by they never really caught on with the general public.
  14. I don't know about Disney but in Austria, distributors and theaters made such late-run-cheap-ticket weeks for last year's Maverick and Guglhupfgeschwader to push them above 600k resp. 300k. So, I can really see Disney pushing this to get some headlines - of course, in the long rune, with re-release before A3, it will surpass this number with ease anyway.

Overall, boring numbers … In Austria, Avatar and Magic Mike on #1 and #3 as in Germany but Maurice was #2 here. Next weekend: The 3rd Ant-Man movie is grabbing the big screens and should finish Avatar's run of won weekends - well, 9 times #1 is ok I'd say! But I don't believe Ant-Man will set the BO on fire … presales look pretty low atm and anything above 400k Wed-Sun would surprise me very much. Also opening: Perfect Addiction for the teenie crowd, maybe a good opening week thanks to the Valentine's rush, and Spanish family CGI movie Moomios (the market for kids is pretty full atm I'd say but with holidays in more and more regions, maybe room enough for one more).
  16. at least a good hold for Otto ... but overall business is behind my expectations, none of the openers is breaking out
  17. that's what I meant, actual weekend should be quite a bit higher than 110k - not enough I guess but it's getting closer than expected
  18. seems like Magic Mike is still fighting for the weekend crown ... good numbers, let's wait for updated estimates!
  19. yep but getting harder with this drop, especially with Ant-Man grabbing a lot of screens next week
  20. according to insidekino.de, with the exception of Magic Mike, the openers are staying behind expectations, closer to 50k than 100 ... #1: Avatar2 - 200k (-36%) #2: Die drei ??? - 150k (-35%) #3: MagicMike - 185k including the strong Wednesday ("Ladies night") #4: Puss in Boots - 85k (-32%) #5: Maurice - 55k incl some previews
  21. the 4DX shows are selling out, but the 3D shows on the biggest screen have very very low presales ... going by my cinema, I'd say a 50k max OW for Germany. With it being obviously a great choice vor Valentine's, it might get great weekdays after, but overall, not that big a splash.

Avatar 2 continues its run to 10mil total. But the story this weekend were family movies: With school holidays now approaching (or already in power), Die Schule der magischen Tiere 2 might leg it to 3mil, unbelievable! Die drei ??? is also already a big success, a total somewhere around 1,5mil seems doable and if WOM catches on, maybe more. And Puss in Boots 2 is already a lock for 2mil total but should end with a total well over that number! In Austria, Avatar 2 was in front with similar numbers; Puss #2 with nearly 20k - the "Golden Ticket" for 300k total is locked; Die drei ??? on #3 also with a healthy increase but not on Germany's level. Both "big" openers did better in Austria, we had 5 releases >10k admissions! And #6, domestic hit Der Fuchs, not far behind that number - Austria continues to outperform Germany. Next weekend: Well, finally a really interesting weekend with a lot of potential 6-digit-weekends: - there's the re-release of Titanic - there's the 3rd Magic Mike movie - there's Knock at the Cabin - and an additional family CGI movie, Tha Amazing Maurice Which means screens are at a premium this week, but generally, business should see a nice uptick. I guess Avatar2 will stay on top, and probably Die drei ??? on #2, but behind that, we'll see a lot of change in next week's chart!
