  1. it's what we're seeing elsewhere too, premium shows (IMAX, 4DX, Dolby Atmos ...) are selling way better than 2D. Still, I guess this is mainly OW and later on tickets will be cheaper. As to what it means for Austria - 40.000 tickets OW for Cineplexx venues alone sounds good until you consider they have an about 50% market share in Austria. As mentioned, premium shows and evening shows are selling fine, but there's still much room in afternoon and even early evening shows. So, we'll see a massive OW of course, but not as big as No Time to Die (to take the biggest post-covid opener).
  2. first estimates for Germany's weekend from insidekino.de: #1: Avatar 2 - 1.175Mil admissions #2: Hotzenplotz - 0.075Mil well, at least Avatar2 is cornering the market ... not even family releases get any space to breathe. Apart from that, I was expecting a little more from the OW but this is a movie that should, like the first one, leg it beautifully through the holidays and into January, so definitely a winner.
  3. Strange World - while far from a success - is flopping much softer than in Germany - and Violent Night more than doubles Germany's numbers - two more international releases where numbers diverge; we've had a lot of them this year!
  4. maybe ... at my cinema, the 3D ticket with prepaid cards is €13,-- for OD; €14,50 for the weekend - the standard 3D tickets however are €19,-- OD and weekend. 4DX shows are €24,-- - those are not many (but are the only shows nearing sellout). 2D prices are €14,-- withoute rebates and so on - but 2D shows are until now selling a lot less seats, at least OW. That's why I thought it might come in between €18 and 20 for OW but drop later on, because people might switch to 2D for a rewatch and abandon 4DX altogether..
  5. probably somewhere in the 18-20€ region, at least for the first days and weekends. Maybe rewatches will be more 2D but that's hard to predict. As an aside, presales are not too overwhelming ... the evening shows are selling ok (but still a lot of seats available) while afternoon shows are selling really slow. At least at my cinema, it doesn't look like there'll be any sellouts OD.

Black Adam crossed 1mil total - barely. Next weekend: Finally, Avatar 2 - the biggest post-covid weekend should be little problem, the real question is how high it can go during the holidays - estimates range from 6mil to 10mil total. Truth be told, while people are aware of the opening, there's pretty little excitement - let's see how WOM develops.
  7. those events are pretty expensive ... for example, next week's "The Hours" from the Met is €35,-- per seat. And already 50% sold. Obviously (as in real operas) the real price will be lower since most people interested in these shows have an abo for all 8 events.
  8. Early estimates for Germany's weekend from insidekino.de: #1: Hotzenplotz - 150k incl. previews #2: BP2 - 75k #3: Einfach mal - 50k at least an ok start for the domestic children's book adaption which should do well across the holidays (and got some pretty favourable reviews). Otherwise, still horrible. (some very "good" holds but from a deflated level ...)

Same in Austria … Next weekend: With "Der Räuber Hotzenplotz", there's one more popular children's book adaption - probably not that big an opening but hopefully it can reach 1mil total or more during the holidays.
  10. wow, not a single release >100k, that's indeed terrible. Hopefully Germany's leaving the tournament will soften that pressure a little bit. And then of course there's Avatar2 on the horizon, but still - horrible numbers.
  11. btw, sad how The Magic Flute is flopping; it's quite a nice production and really worth hearing on a big PA! I wrote a review: https://www.imdb.com/review/rw8702073

Nobody was expecting much from Strange World but I would have bet on 100k at least - ouch. With the championship in background, some drops were expected, but family releases didn't fare too well either - no good news here, so on to Next weekend: Sadly, no big releases again … Call Jane and Violent Night will not set the BO on fire; at least some longrunners are back on the big screen with a few more shows - Tog Gun Maverick and Minions 2 get a lot of additional slots next weekend. Will probably not be enough to save the weekend from becoming another disaster.
  13. difficult to be sure but at first glance, we're already seeing the impact of the championship ... male-oriented releases are suffering much harder drops than the ones targeting family ore females. for cinema's sake, let's hope Germany drops out of the tournament asap!

Einfach mal was Schönes opened within, The Menu above expectations and The Magic Flute is an outright flop. Black Panther 2 had a good drop; Rheingold a bit steeper but 1mil total should still be possible. In Austria, the weekend was similar with Einfach mal was Schönes doing worse, The Magic Flute better than in Germany. Next weekend: The big opener will be Strange Worlds which should make #2 even if presales are more or less non-existent …
  17. Saturday update even better for BP2, sadly the Magic Flute is flopping hard (it's doing a bit better here in Austria from what I see). But the surprise success of the weekend is The Menu; the black comedy is doing much better than expected, nice!

Still, four domestic releases in the Top5, that's something to cherish! In Austria, very similar numbers (Rheingold with an increase so it's now on Germany's level) - btw, in Austria, Ticket to Paradise has crossed 200k admissions, very nice run and another case of Austria far outgrossing Germany! Next weekend: No really big releases but romcom Einfach mal was Schönes might become #2 and further strengthen the dominance of domestic releases! And as a dark horse, The Magic Flute is seeking an audience - it's a pretty unusual and bold concept, let's hope it doesn't flop, I'm always for leaving the trodden path!
  19. Saturday update a bit better for all releases, but mainly Rheingold and Wakanda. Let's hope numbers keep getting better!
  20. Black Adam's demise was to be expected, but I'm a bit sad about the other releases' drops. Ok, family movies were profiting from holidays last week, but what about Rheingold or Nachname?

Rheingold - still not in very wide release - is developing into a domestic hit, and Schule der magischen Tiere 2 has sailed past part 1 and crossed 2mil admisisons with ease, unfazed by the opening of Hui Buh (which is not to be considered a sequel I think; the first adaption was too long ago for the target age but counted >2mil admissions in its time). In Austria, similar numbers (Rheingold not nearly as strong though) - and good news from the longrunners; it's not yet official but Top Gun Maverick has crossed 600k admissions - the "Platinum Ticket", while Guglhupfgeschwader earned itself a "Golden Ticket" with 300k. Fantastic numbers! Next weekend: There's little doubt that the 2nd Black Panther movie will open to #1, hopefully around 500k. No other big openers, so holdovers (with the exception of Black Adam) should not be hit too hard and there will be a general uptick in business.
  23. Saturday update from insidekino.de has everything up a bit, 5 releases >100k, among them 4 domestic ones - cool! Even if a blockbuster is missing, it's good to see so many different movies finding their audiences.
  24. Excellent for Rheingold - it had an expansion, so PTA dropping a bit steeper, but #1 is still a big surprise for this production! As to the kiddie movies - my son is >30, so you might say I'm a bit out of touch (at least until great-children arrive someday), but I had thought Hui Buh would be targeted at a pretty similar age group as Schule der magischen Tiere, so it's surprising for me that both are co-existing so fine! I suppose holidays are playing a bit part here?

In Austria, results were a bit different - Halloween Ends much stronger, while Rheingold has gotten only a very limited release (sensibly I think, the biopic wouldn't generate much interest here). Next weekend: No big openers, among them Prey for the Devil which gets a late halloween start for whatever reason, and a release for the very young - Hui Buh und das Schlossgespenst. With school holidays and cool weather in some parts of Germany, there should be some good weekdays, especially for family releases.
