In Austria, a similar chart (Wick more popular here than Manta) but if you think Germany's OW was good, well, the number in Austria is even better - 200k after OW! Also, Pope's Exorcist came in >10k, so much better OW than in Germany, too. Next weekend: One week after the fine opening in France, Les Trois Mousquetaires: D'Artagnan opens here but the numbers will be MUCH lower if not outright floppy. Also opening: Cocaine Bear (no idea where this may be heading or to whom it might appeal) and Suzume, a real dark horse - anime have become pretty popular lately but since this is an original theme afaik that may be a problem. Looking at presales, I see none of them opening in the 6-digit-range.

that's actually insane ...

that's probably happening (Austria should also make >100k incl. Wed with ease), I was thinking about the 4-day weekend. But with weather not too spring-like and even rainy in many parts over the weekend, I think we will indeed get a super strong OW! (and not only Mario, we might in fact see some spillover)

In Austria, also a good opening for the German car comedy, but John Wick 4 stayed on top, already >100k admissions here. D&D opened stronger than in Germany and domestic comedy Griechenland is still going strong. Next weekend: A new #1 with the Super Mario Bros movie is a safe bet, just how big can it get? Presales are looking fine, maybe something in the 750k region is possible (some are even talking about a million start). Also opening: Air with good reviews but much less potential, #5 might be possible.

Saturday update from insidekino.de a bit lower for JW4 and higher for D&D, overall about the same. Family releases have some difficulties this weekend it seems (though a few youngsters might be in D&D if yesterday's shows were an indication)

I had the impression this was a pre-start but obviously, it got counted as a regular release - ok number for the few shows it had.

weekend seems to be fine but why would you want them to switch places? Always nice to have a domestic hit, even if the movie seems to be a bit of a stinker ... (I've never even seen the original so I have zero idea about the appeal)

looking at Thursday evening, Manta Manta will be the bigger of the two openers ... at least in Germany; in Austria, D&D seems at least head-to-head, at my theater even stronger.

And a pretty good PTA for a domestic documentation - nice result for Der vermessene Mensch. After last weekend's horrible drops, family releases had a little comeback - Der Räuber Hotzenplotz has now crossed 1mil total, a number many domestic children's book adaptions are aiming for but only a few actually reach! In Austria, once more, a similar weekend but overall better, with John Wick 4 opening higher and domestic comedy Griechenland still strong, already >200k admissions. Next weekend: Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves has in reality already opened, it had official shows during last weekend which will be counted next week; this pre-opening was ok (around 100k in Germany I'd guess) but it's unsure how big the actual OW can get, I'm hoping for something around 250k - trailer looked like fun and fantasy does sell pretty well here, Also opening: Domestic sequel Manta Manta - Zwoter Teil, a sequel to a long-long-ago (30 years …) cult movie starring Til Schweiger; I have no idea how popular the thing still is in Germany but a six-digit-OW would be nice I guess.

at my theater, no problem getting good seats ... a good opening but nothing special.

The best news we can take away from last weekend is that there's a wider base of attractive releases once more, many releases >10k admissions, the BO is on its way back to pre-Corona times. In Austria, also a bad weekend but overall slightly better thanks mainly to the strong domestic comedy on #1. Next weekend: One more medium-sized hit coming up, John Wick 4 should win the weekend without any problem, the only question is if it can beat its predecessor (which would put it around a 300k OW). Other actioners will probably get hit really hard … but Avatar 2 will have crossed the 10mil mark by then

sadly, everything down from firste estimates ... don't know about all of Germany but here in Austria, it's outdoors weather, beautiful spring days ... bad news for the BO!

going by my cinema, #3 will be out of reach ... this is selling so bad atm I'd be surprised if it makes even the Top5

Sadly, Creed 3 nearly had the steepest drop, didn't expect that after last weekend - still, a big success, after 2 weekends already more admissions than the prior Creed movies! The steepest drop, btw, was Ant-Man 3's, that release just can't catch a breath after the ok opening. In Austria, once more, the weekend was much better. Domestic comedy Griechenland was back on #1 (already >150k admissions after 3 weekends, might reach blockbuster status), Creed 3 dropped nearly as steep as in Germany but was still close to 30k and Scream 6 opened much stronger (>20k for the 4day weekend); 65 opened stronger, too, while Fabelmans was on Germany's level. The only movie doing much worse than in Germany was (again) Sonne und Beton which has a hard time finding an audience in Austria! Next weekend: One more domestic comedy, Der Pfau, might see some success (maybe top5?) but the biggest opener should be the second Shazam! movie, #3 should be possible. It will be interesting if Sonne und Beton can finally reach #1 on its 3rd weekend!

sadly, Fabelmans is flopping everywhere ... otherwise, fine weekend, Creed3 should do better than first estimates and S&B is in fact holding extremely well in Germany, as does Griechenland in Austria. Scream6 seems a bit frontloaded, at least at my cinema.

Also good openings with healthy PTA for Sonne und Beton and arthousy Tár. Puss in Boots 2 has now crossed 2mil total, fine number after the lukewarm opening. Pretty different results in Austria, Creed 3 was even stronger (>50k for the 4-day WE), but on #2 domestic comedy Griechenland with a good hold, should be >100k total by now (already 2 domestic releases over this mark in 2023, fine!) while Sonne und Beton didn't generate much business, it'a more of a northern-Germany theme so no surprise. Moomios and Maurice otoh were twice as strong as in Germany! Next weekend: Scream 6 and The Fabelmans should become the biggest openers but #1 seems unreachable for both and even #2 difficult if Sonne und Beton doesn't crumble. But it seems Avatar2 pulled movie-going back into the general perception, and with those releases widening the audience gamut even more, we might see a very strong overall weekend, even without any new blockbuster!

Creed3 is getting higher and higher ... according to insidekino.de, 410k until Sunday! With the way this kept growing over the weekend, 1mil should be locked and 1,5mil or even higher possible, WOM seems excellent! Nice surprise there.
