  1. Yeah, not entirely sure how you can combine Mad Max and Interstellar together beyond both of them sharing a little bit more ambition than most tentpole releases. Two totally different films though and one was executed much better than the other. Mad Max is pure popcorn fluff if thats what you want from a movie. It gave us these scenes for fuck sake. Mad Max is both entertaining and a well made film. And yeah, its appeal in general in going to be less then a Jurassic World type movie because of its subject matter, but that shouldn't let JW off the hook for not being a well made film. I'm not asking for Shakespeare here, I just want summer movies that can entertain and not be quite so disposable once you are done with them.
  2. Jurassic Park made a shit load of money back in 1993. Now JP is hardly a super intellectual super deep thinking film, but it did have characters that we rooted for, interesting themes brought up that one could either think about or completely ignore after the film had finished, and a plot that made fucking sense (not to mention superior technical aspects like direction and score). I refuse to believe that twenty years on, society as a whole is now so fucking retarded that a movie that treats its audience with an iota of respect is going to crash and burn at the Box Office. If that means I'm on mushrooms then so be it.
  3. Who cares if film is not art to a majority of people?? Why does that mean that we can't ask for a better class of summer blockbuster?
  4. i still can't get over how stupid the idea of weaponizing dinosaurs is.
  5. Not to mention a 7.8 on IMDB. Clearly it found enjoyment in a certain class of people at the very least.
  6. Yeah it was weird. Nobody would had cared outside the hardcore trekie fans anyways, and the movie was aiming for the GA so why all the secrecy? The moment when it was revealed in the film that he was Kahn just fell flat in the cinema for me. I got the feeling that most people reacted just like....
  7. Sure, and Jurassic World could had opened to 40M and struggle past 100M DOM so why bother making films at all? Investing 150M to 200M in a film always has its risks, but the ST Reboot has had 2 profitable films, and more importantly it helps keep the ST Franchise in the limelight and all the financial benefits from sales of its 50 years of content that that entails. It would be craziness to shrug and throw in the towel just because the movie made 225M DOM rather than the 300M DOM that they probably expected. It was still a successful film. And probably just as, if not more profitable than a film like Mad Max that the entire forum seems to have gotten behind as a success.
  8. The 2nd movie made more money worldwide then number 1. Besides 225~ Million may have been disappointing based on expectations but its hardly a bomb. Why would Paramount give up on a lucrative franchise?
  9. I seem to be agreeing with Dash more and more since I had my accident. This concerns me. Also of course you can enjoy dumb movies and find this one 'not good'.
  10. We know Baumer, we know. For those of us who appreciate good movie scripts there was quite a lot of those moments though
  11. I may be a complete stranger to James Horner and he may be a complete stranger to me, but his music has touched me in ways few people on this earth have. I'm sure many other people who appreciate film feel the same way as that. So put that in your pipe and smoke it!
  12. To me Godzilla was attempted to be something more then just another summer blockbuster flick and somewhat failed at that, while JW succeeded at being another summer blockbuster flick. I'm going to choose ambition over execution and pick Godzilla as the better film.
  13. I could see a 400M run for the film. 500M would be extraordinary. For it to become the 2nd biggest grossing film DOM of all time. That's damn near unexplainable IMO.
  14. Jurassic World. How you doing this? Whats your secret? Is Colin Trevorrow going to spend eternity being tortured by the devil after selling his soul for this kind of success? Nothing else explains 400M~ in 10 days. Nothing.
  15. For the record Tele I agree with you on this matter. So you may want to think long and hard and reassess your position on this particular social issue.
  16. The only character with any development at all in this movie was Claire
  17. We got a sense of awe and wonderment in the original JP because Spielberg knows how to direct and John Williams knows how to score. CGI was a distant third reason. JW was not as expertly directed or scored. Its CGI is obviously better though from a technical viewpoint.
  18. Lost World I hated the characters, while JPW I felt indifference to likeable to them.
  19. I'ld be very interested to see reactions to this film after a year.
  20. Yes, lets walk inside the pen before confirming that the I-Rex has infact escaped by checking its motion tracker device. Brilliant work humans, brilliant work!
