  1. But based on the amount of competition which Alvin 3 is currently facing, the fact that it is only $500K behind, without the help of a Boxing Day release (effectively the biggest movie-going day), it is doing quite well, and possibly would be on par with 2 had the release been the same. But I guess time will tell.If Alvin 3 makes $20m, I will call it equally as successful as A2.
  2. So it was still a bit higher..Any chance of getting individual numbers for Saturday and Sunday?
  3. But according to Urban Cinefile, it was at $3.3m as of Sunday, then at $5m as of Monday. However, that $3.3m for the 'normal weekend' included only those cinemas that opened on Christmas Friday, and then Saturday and Sunday, so what I was wanting to know was how much it made on Saturday and Sunday, in a sense a much more fair comparison for the two films.
  4. I'd love a Donkey movie! Shrek 5 would be more of the same, as would Puss 2, I say bring on Donkey!
  5. That seems right on par with Alvin 2.RTH, what was the cume for Alvin 2 after two days (excluding Christmas Day), so Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th?It would have to be just about even with number 3.I told everyone we would eat this up.
  6. I would say that is quite a strong opening day for Alvin 3! Alvin 2 had a 2.5 day opening (only some cinemas are open Christmas) and made AU$3.3m.
  7. Opens New Years Day. So it's not really THAT wierd.
  8. Yep!I THINK it was the only release, there may have been some limited releases, but yes, the only 2012 release so far.
  9. Based on recent times, I have a feeling we are going to be in for a very healthy holiday period.Last year seemed to disappoint, with maybe Tangled being the standout, but I really dont think we are going to experience the sequel drop-off many other places currently have. Just my thoughts..What do you guys think?
  10. I think we can confidently assume that Alvin and The Chipmunks 3 is the highest grossing release of 2012
  11. Lots of public holidays everywhere, so not really surprising.Again, we have to wait for weekend-only numbers for Australia.(Any numbers for Australia in the report are from Monday-Sunday)
  12. Movie Of The Month In Green Failure Of The Month In Red Surprise Of The Month In Orange Disappointment Of The Month In Brown 01.01.2012 - Happy Feet Two (2D) - 6.5/10 Films Seen In 2012: 1
  13. I think it's really cool that you know all the inside info. The day you quit whatever secret job you have, will you PLEASE put us out of our misery and tell us where you work?!
  14. Intouchables WTF? I love following this beast! 20m admissions seems pretty much done!
  15. We only know 1 figure at the moment and that is the Monday public holiday figure, so it's not really that much to go off unfortunately. However, I could take an educated guess and say that, if it took $1.5m in a single day, $12-13m seems locked!
  16. Its quite ridiculous actually, the situation we're currently in.It's one of the biggest weekends of the year, and we arent given numbers due to the public holiday, so we have to rely on RTH, who, correct me if I'm wrong, we don't even know to this day how he gets such accurate numbers (not an attack at RTHs cred, just pointing that out that's all).Last year we didn't have any data and that was when TKS had a massive weekend. Reporting of Australian Box Office figures is so poor - they get the numbers on a daily basis (correction, pretty much live basis from cinemas) yet we get two numbers a week, in a crappy little table that only shows the Top 10, there gross and nothing else, not even a to-date total. (just for MPDAA).Seriously, it would take someone like 5 minutes a day to fill out the template and put in 10 numbers if theyre not bothered to do any more, and if they wanted to be generous and put daily/weekly drops, I know s#!t all about web formatting but even I know that formula in excel. You never know, more data might actually spike more interest in the box office, with the potential for greater awareness of Australian productions and that could only be a good thing considering like 1 in a billion make back their production budget.
  17. Every session for the first 5 weeks of Alvin 2 was sold out, or over 75% full at my work. It goes off.Alvin 3 is just going to destroy any kids movie out!
  18. Simply stunning - especially considering two major things this had going against it: 1. Franchise fatigue - the '4th film syndrome' that so many films fall victim to, 2. 2011 - the year where (basically) everything just went s#!t.
  19. Same at my work.. Was really really quiet in the morning then we got slammed in the arvo. But I have an explanation!!Today isn't the boxing day public holiday, therefore most suburban shops will be shut: leading to generally lower numbers.Tomorrow however I am expecting absolute mayhem: 1. Cheap Tuesday2. School holidays3. Boxing day public holiday 4. Shops reopenWhich means:A Tuesday school holiday which falls on boxing day when the shops reopen!
  20. Any international reports? Or will they be delayed due to the Public Holidays around the world?
  21. Yeh I'm pretty sure all three major chains will be open - in most areas. It's pretty much just standard now - what else is there to do for those who don't celebrate Christmas, and for those that do, post-festive celebration.
