A concentrated marketing campaign, great release date and awesome positioning by Lions Gate - they kept reinforcing the message "If Divergent flops, all YA adaptations are finished". The movie being decent was a bonus. It didn't get absolutely trashed by reviewers .
Interesting to read, thanks!
-
Wonder what made Divergent open big unlike lots of other past YA releases?
-
Yeah. "no reaction" for me typically means there was talking/murmurs during the trailer unrelated to the trailer. Whereas "murmurs" would mean like leaning over and talking about what the movie is or whispering once the trailer is done about the trailer
Oh okay, thanks!
So I guess that Godzilla trailer demanded attention, am I right?
-
Would you count silence as different from "no reaction"?Godzilla - silence throughout the whole trailer
-
Yup, everyone catches it like colds. But I don't think you should be bothered by it anyway. It's a viral infection... everyone catches it eventually.

That would be a good benchmark. But if this experiences a Thor 2 sequel jump, it would finish with almost $7M. Also, it has a good release date (April is summer here), and it'll be getting IMAX screens as well. Competition doesn't look to be large also.PLUS:Philippines Box OfficeMarch 5–9, 2014TW LW Movie Studio Weekend Gross Change Screens Change / Avg. Man, no wonder it seems like forever when we hear new stuff about this. There's barely any news to begin with.Doesn't mean I'm not excited thoughKristen Bell was announced as the voice of Anna on March 5, 2012... nearly 2 years before Frozen was released. So BH6 is being extremely slow with its news.

When can we normally expect to hear casting news for big animated movies like this?

It's always nice to see the industry expand.
Hopefully this company can put out some good stuff.

EDIT: Oh geez. I accidentally edited out my 300 crowd report with my Cap 2 report. Dammit.
Captain America: The Winter SoldierSM Cebu Imax, Mar. 30, 11 am showing., >15% full.Trailers:Interstellar (no reaction)Amazing Spider-Man 2 (people went "Oh!" and were definitely into the trailer)
Godzilla (silence throughout, people talked about it after title was shown)Film/Experience:This was my second time viewing, and it was still just as awesome as the first time.
Excellent fight choreography, Falcon is cool as as heck, and solid plotting.
Crowd laughed at appropriate times and were genuinely surprised when Winter Soldier was revealed to be Bucky! Most stayed for the mid-credits scene and were definitely talking about the twins' appearance after it was done.

300! Awoooo!!!Opening today (March 5):12 Years a SlaveOpening tomorrow (March 6): 300: Rise of an Empire and Mr. Peabody & Sherman

True. It's sandwiched between TASM ll and DOFP.
I don't think a 3rd week drop would be kind to TASM 2 though...
-
450+OS, how much do you guys think X-men would affect Godzilla's run?
-
X-Men is gonna open big here. Especially with the Wolverine's strong debut last year.Probably more. However, the competition is strong.
-
You guys think GODZILLA will have a Pacific Rim-like run in the Philippines?
-
Waterworld.
-
Even without I think, people don't care about the directors for the majority so they will be there massively. With the good will of the first, even a less good movie (not a shitty one though) can do 300M IMO
However, the directors could affect the quality, which in turn could affect the legs, am I right?

Over 300 mil, anyone?
If Lord & Miller will a be a part of this, definitely.
-
I couldn't bring myself to browse through all the past pages...any Robocop numbers, guys?
-
People just don't know when to stop with 47 Ronin I guess.
-
This will make money, but it won't exactly be a success.
-
After that trailer, 250 million seems to be in play here!
-
I wanted the sing-along version to show here so bad...:/Regular version lang but still it's the first time this happened in *sorry can't help it* forever. Well hindi naman, Pitch Perfect also returned to theaters after its first run but only on Robinsons cinemas.

Filipinos love superheroes, so I'm sure Cap will easily out gross Noah here.
Of course, we're also a Catholic-majority nation, so Noah will perform good on its own terms.
