I'm sure there ware movies in 2002 considered brilliant that didn't do gangbusters. Did Aardman Animations ever had a big movie? I believe no Muppets movie was ever a blockbuster. Hugo seems like an acquiered taste.

We are not talking about movies in general but last week's openers.
-
Yeah but twice the amount of tickets is crazy talk, maybe 20-30%. I disagree, this weekend says more about the movies.2002 (year) 1,575.7 (tickets sold) 478 (number of movies)2010 (year) 1,339.1 (tickets sold) 534 (number of movies)
-
I don't think so.
-
Exactly, that's the main reason why numbers aren't hot right now. Had they released the same movies last year they wouldn't have fared any better.Guys the 2 new movies that are out right now suck.
-
That's not true. Around Thanksgiving people have a few days off (i assume, i don't live in the USA), that's why numbers are inflated, and as previously said in the last third of December, leading up to Christmas and New Year. Otherwise box office behaves ordinary. As far as Holiday Season goes, i meant the time when people actually don't have to work or go to school. It is the holiday season and usually the movies released during this period have much better box office.
-
Sure, and fall movie season starts in September. My point is, the way ECSTASY worded it, it seems like he way saying people go to the movies more this time of the year. Box office data doesn't support that. A Monday in the first halt of December is pretty much like every other Monday.
-
What has "Holiday Season" got to do with anything? Yesterday was a normal day, just like a regular monday in i dunno March or September. People don't go more to movies just because holiday is in the air, they go when they have more time available.A lot of people must have off in the last third of December or else midweek numbers would not be as big as they are, especially those that go to school.

People may party but they still go to work /school.

Holiday season starts next week.LOL I know. Even worse because it's the holiday season. But oh well such is life.

It was damn full.Granted, it's not Cameron's best movie but considering pretty much all his movies are at least good, that's not much of a minus. The more I watched Avatar the more empty it seemed.
-
Avatar had a good love story.
-
Pixar incorporates some themes adults can relate to, that doesn't change the fact that they are kid flicks.

Hey, Disney deserves some props, John Carter is a risky proposition.
-
Again, Hugo's theater count increased by about +45%.
-
It would surprise me, since NM did only +26%. The Twilight franchise, being chick flicks, has stronger Fridays. What if it did???
-
Well, DH1 increased 55% on Sat, BD1 might not even 30%.DH1 had 4.8M on Friday, New Moon 5.1M, and BD1 5.5M
-
Nope, about $8.9m.And next weekend won't be $3m higher, i.e. it won't make $11m next weekend. If BD1 makes 16m this weekend, the gap between it and New Moon will only be 6.5m
-
Well, it gained a bunch of theaters. That's a massive jump.
-
I'm wondering, will you let us know that every day? Maybe you should put that in your sig. Just a suggestion...$300m is dead.

Plus they are only estimates.
-
He only posted Latin America markets since i asked if it still has all of Latin America to open in to.
-
Hmm, might still do $350m then. But it needs some good holds. Wasn't last weekend's gross around $20m? So it lost about 50%. Probably awful legs in China...
