  1. Is 600M a likely possibility now, given that TASM2 has another 2 week run on its own (before DOFP)?
  2. If you're genetically inclined to panic, surely nothing can really stop you, can it ?? We're still looking at $100M +, with that opening and I'm pretty optimistic about China.
  3. New International markets for TASM 2 are doing well for this week so far. All hope's not lost yet, but legs are obviously a question mark. Philippines - 2 day opening all-time opening record - over and above Avengers and IM 3. Roughly $2.5M Wednesday/Thursday India - $2M opening day - all-time record for any Hollywood film Malaysia - Ditto as India, $1.5M OD France - $2.7M Wednesday + $2M Thursday (30% over TASM) Brazil - $3.7 OD (100% above TASM)
  4. I'm a huge spidey fan, but I do believe that these are disappointing numbers for the 15 territories in question, including the UK. Considering that this is a school holiday week in the UK and a long weekend, I expected TASM2 to do at least $20M equivalent, over the 5 days to Sunday. However, I also think that the flick may wind up in the $800-850M range (just about), carried by China + Latam + a few other Asian countries. I now think that the US tally may also end up lower than TASM's $262M. Amy Pascal's $1Billion hopes will remain just that; an empty hope
  5. Firedeep - yes, can't argue with that 4 weekend win, can I? Looks good when you put it that way. ;-) It's out in the UK next Wednesday and I'm catching it on day 1. :-)
  6. TASM2 will have the world-wide premiere in London tomorrow night. There was a screening for critics last night in the UK and the buzz seems to be overall positive for the film. It opens next Wednesday in the UK and a few other countries, with fairly sizeable weekend releases over the next 2 weeks, till the May 2nd kick-off in the US. I won't be too surprised if it does score number one over at least the first 3 weekends after its OS release.
  7. Olive - can you please post Monday's initial estimates when you have them?
  8. Olive - do you have initial info on how Robo is tracking in Japan, say in terms of admissions? Cheers
  9. NFS is tracking very well. Are we looking at 130M for this weekend? Was this expected? Both Robo and DOS are fading away now. Geez. Even 330 M for Robo and 470M for DOS might be difficult. Is this a correct read?
  10. OK, thanks for that Olive. So, I suppose expectations for Robo should be tempered a bit and even though its at RMB 283M as of today, it may not do well enough in the next few days to hit the RMB 340M mark? Is this a fair assumption?
  11. Chaps, I'm interested in how Robocop is tracking for this weekend's release in Japan. Are there any stats like Screen openings/advance tickets that are available? Thanks
  12. Thanks Olive. Does it look like DOS will go past RMB 500M ? It's looking good. And Robocop in China is looking like it's on track to be the World's biggest box office, as it should go past 56-57M that the US is likely to finish at. This is around RMB 340-350M or so. Maybe they should have released Robo in 3D, worldwide?
  13. Olive - Do you have Tuesday's revised estimates and today's estimates?
  14. Yep, indeed. But, I suppose TASM 2 should still well, in spite of these head-winds. $75 Mill should be in range?
  15. Also remember that it is NOT Sony that is driving the Robocop franchise; it is MGM through their Orion Pictures acquisition. Sony part financed the film (MGM majority financed Robocop), and does own the majority of distribution rights worldwide, including the US and China, which are Robocop's biggest markets with the reboot. However, the creative direction of the film is MGM's. If this was a flop and it is not turning out to be so because of international performance, MGM had a lot more to lose than Sony does.
  16. Robocop is currently at $220 Mill WW and $165 Mill International. China may add another $15-20 mill before the end of its run and if Japan can throw in about $10 mill, then we will be looking at $200 Mill International and around $260 Mill WW, which is not too shabby and bodes well for a sequel ;-).
  17. Based on the trends over the past 5 days since it was released, where do you see Robocop finishing at the end of its run, after a OW of RMB 127 Mill/$20.5Mill?
