  2. I'm generally in the "Disney Villains need to come back" camp, but I honestly feel that adding some big bad would diminish a lot of my enjoyment here. This is a small-scale family drama first and foremost and that drama is done well here. Adding in a nefarious vilain for the family to take down just wouldn't work IMO
  3. Aren't you the dude who made Eternals over Dune/Eternals over Last Duel and House of Gucci clubs solely because their directors said mean things about movies you like? Don't act like you, or your side is clean here. You want to know why directors get asked this stuff? Because they know it'll get easy outrage clicks from Marvel fans. They know it's an easy headline that can get Marvel fans into a hissy fit and put their articles in the conversation. They know the second that a director says anything even mildly negative about Marvel, despite the love and showering they get on a daily basis, they will moan and complain about how the world is coming to an end and that they're being persecuted for liking a movie (hint: you're not). And the beautiful thing about all this is that you are not being forced to respond to this stuff. You are not being forced by somebody at gunpoint to read or respond to those articles. The world will not blow up if you don't complain about how Denis is a pretentious hack who hates fun. You are able to ignore it and move on to the rest of your day. Except you don't. It's like clickbait: the only reason websites use clickbait is because that's the only thing people click on. The only way to stop clickbait is to not click on it. So how about you be a better consumer and ignore that stuff? Because sure enough, those headlines and statements will magically go away.
  4. Wouldn’t this just encourage studios to not put stuff on streaming early? Encanto would’ve gotten to 100M without this early launch
  5. Simple: you have everything you ever wanted. The MCU is the biggest movie franchise in history. These movies are well-regarded by the majority of critics. They are giant moneymakers for several top executives. They have a massive fandom of millions across the world. They are the dominant force in the current film industry, oftentimes to the detriment of other films on the market. So despite all the win your franchise has, the idea of somebody giving a mild critique is just too far? You have to go on about how the world is out to get you for one article or one mean tweet? You have to go on about how hilarious the other side is for disliking movies everybody else already loves and to go after the dissenting voices? And going into the "let people enjoy things", what I find very interesting, at least in regards to Marvel, is that no less than 10 years ago, everybody and their grandma loved to dunk on Transformers or Twilight. They were all super popular, some of the biggest franchises out there, and people on YouTube and Twitter and the like loved to mock those movies, their formulas, and even the people who liked them. Yet those fans barely made a peep, nor did they feel they have to defend those movies to their dying breath. Or at least, I never really saw this kind of stuff. I'm sure I missed diehard Bay or Meyer stans trying to do everything to go after the endless thinkpieces for being "fun-haters". Yet now, Marvel is somehow out of bounds? That people are out to get them? That they're above criticism, and everybody making fun of them have no life? That because people enjoy them, that means they're off-limits? Interesting. All I'm saying is that nobody's really getting hurt by the articles and tweets you're going after, nor do they impact your enjoyment, so why can't you just ignore it? And for the record, this isn't something I've seen from Marvel fans exclusively. Joker stans were doing the same thing two years ago, Star Wars fans did this a couple years ago too. It's more of an Internet-wide thing than anything else that's sprouted up over the last few years.
  6. Dude, you know you can just ignore this stuff right? Nobody's forcing you to read this stuff. Marvel's not gonna suddenly bomb because people are being a little mean to movies you like. You're mature enough to handle stuff you like, especially stuff that is too big to fail and made by people richer than you will ever be, getting dogged on by other people. Who cares? Get over it.
  7. I know Omicron's a big factor to all this, but I also think the big issue for the NWH titles, once again, is that we still don't have a vast chunk of the non 18-34 demos heading out to theaters. Sing 2 is reliant on families, who have likely been way more conditioned with PVOD than other demographics, and stuff like West Side is reliant on 45+ who just aren't as eager. Even NWH was still about 62% 18-34 for its OW, an insane skew. 29% of FFH was 18-24 by comparison. Even if you want to factor in 25-34 there, that's still likely an absurdly smaller percentage. And seeing as how families and older auds are the ones who supply good legs...yeah, that's going to impact NWH as well. And as I always say, who knows if they'll ever come back? I already talked about this a couple days ago, but I think (and I know I might be wrong, don't even bother "Hahaing" me or giving me a lecture) that grosses will be depressed to account for these missing demos. 350 is the new 500 and whatnot.
  8. The obsession this forum has with "Film Twitter" is the absolute weirdest thing in the world. If you want a bunch of dudes who think differently than you (and frankly, don't actually represent "Film Twitter") run rent-free in your head, then be my guest. Just seems pretty insecure of you that you have to mock people who don't kiss Papa Feige's feet every other day and paint them as fun-hating fuddy duddys.
  9. We've gone through a 2-year drought of megagrossers, and when No Way Home only barely misses 700M, that's not good enough? Ohhhhhhhhhkayyyyy

  11. I spent all of December watching 25 separate adaptations of A Christmas Carol, one per day, because I hate myself. Was definitely an interesting experience to say the least, but I can't say I didn't have a good time. Ranking them all: 1. The Muppet Christmas Carol 2. The Richard Williams animated one 3. Mickey's Christmas Carol 4. The George C. Scott one 5. The Jim Carrey mocap one 6. The Alastair Sim one 7. The Reginald Owen one 8. The Guy Pearce miniseries 9. Carol For Another Christmas 10. The Smurfs one 11. The Seymour Hicks one 12. Bugs Bunny's Christmas Carol 13. Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol 14. The Man Who Invented Christmas 15. A Flintstones Christmas Carol 16. The Albert Finney one 17. The Patrick Stewart one 18. The Barbie one 19. Scrooged 20. Bah, Humduck! A Looney Tunes Christmas 21. The Tim Curry animated one 22. The Kate Winslet/Nicolas Cage animated one 23. Ghosts of Girlfriends Past 24. An American Christmas Carol 25. An American Carol I really thought people were capping when they said the Muppets one was the best, but like...shit man, that one hits hard. Everything there just clicks. Scrooged was a huge disappointment though. Just a bizarre, inconsistent, cruel mess of a film.
  12. Moderation @Lothar @JamesCameronScholar Whether you’re serious or not (if you are, both of you simply need to get your priorities straight), we are not posting, encouraging, or promoting the commitment of suicide over a movie’s box office.
  13. I know that Leto is #TheWorst, but Morbius will probably breakout bigly. People are slaves to the Marvel name and will ride NWH’s coattails hardcore
  14. Another year has passed, and after all that happened in 2020, things are...interesting. Everybody's 2021 is different. Some had a happy one, some were miserable, and for the majority, they were complicated. I was lucky enough to have a happy one. I left my stressful, exhaustive Bed Bath and Beyond job in favor of a very comfortable and relaxing analyst role for a local recruiting agency. One that was far more flexible with my schedule and deadlines, and have a whole bunch of new friends to boot. And while I didn't do anything else too exciting, pandemic and all, I got to enjoy the movies again, enjoy some Hulu and Disney+, and be one step closer to financial independence and my own place. Of course, my experience doesn't match everybody. And at least for our purposes, 2021 was a very mixed bag at the box office. Theaters are alive...but streaming is still the dominant form of entertainment. Marvel's big...except everything else isn't. It's okay Marvel is the only big thing...except it's really not. But we can all agree that within this hellish landscape of NFTs and climate change that capitalism will still kill us faster than the virus will. But like I said last year, the hardships of 2021 will still leave scars, but we still made it through the end. And we can soon start anew with a whole new perspective, a whole new set of life goals, and hopefully an improved box office that is diverse and exciting for everybody. I know it may seem like I'm very jaded and frustrated a lot, but know that I really do appreciate every single one of you for making my life interesting, exciting, and always dramatic. It's always fun to crack jokes with you weirdos and I hope you love what I and the staff do everyday to make this forum a fun environment to be in. So thank you all for making life great. And to end things off: get vaccinated or boostered, wash your hands, wear a mask, trans rights are human rights, all cops are bastards, Stop Asian Hate, and Black Lives Matter, and happy holidays to all. We're all in this together folks!
