  1. I mean that and last Monday was also a holiday. Things should be corrected from Tuesday onwards.
  2. Well if you want to actually know something interesting, I said the same thing back in 2019, before the pandemic even happened. So I've been pretty consistent on saying this and I'm not doing this for "copium" or "defending shitty numbers" or whatever you're trying to spout here. Let me also say that I'm really not fond of your subtweeting and mocking towards me because I have an opinion over a movie's box office that is different than yours. You do this every time people defend a Marvel movie's box office when it isn't to your liking and it's beyond tiring. Everybody's sick of it, so I suggest you don't give out this attitude over people's other viewpoints, or else. Your choice buddy boy.
  3. Moderation Look guys, it's very clear Jeight is not going to listen to you guys and will believe Multiverse of Madness has good WOM no matter what you say. Do you need to argue with somebody who will never see where you're coming from? Just move on to something else, because it's not worth it.
  4. Been getting the trailer for this a fair amount recently. Doesn't really seem to connect much, but I'm sure it'll do well in limited release at the very least.
  5. People loved the worlds and characters of the first Harry Potter, the first Avengers, the first Jumanji movie with The Rock, etc. Sure, a well-liked predecessor always helps, but you're not 100% guaranteed to make more than the last movie because of this, especially when you were once the third-biggest movie ever made.
  6. Dude, why would conservatives ever show up for this? They threw a fit over two seconds of a gay couple in Lightyear, so they were never going to watch an aggressively gay-themed movie in the first place. Do you seriously believe people whose politics are anti-gay were going to show up all excited, but then didn't because the star said conservative asswipes suck? That makes zero sense. Also the whole "OMG THEY MADE A BOTTOM JOKE" is just ridiculous. This kind of stuff is no different from any other R-rated sex comedies, but apparently the icky gays suddenly make it worse. Did people throw a fit when American Pie had a whole joke about a teenage boy putting his dick in an apple pie? Or if we're talking recent, did people throw a fit when Good Boys made jokes about tampons and dildos with a bunch of 12-year-olds? Last I checked, that wasn't the case. But no, apparently the mention of the term "bottom" is apparently too prude and horrible for people's minds. Give me a fucking break. 🙄
  7. I will say, and I know I'm going to get laughed out of the room for saying this, that Black Panther is a different beast compared to other MCU origin stories and was way more of a breakout with a large periphery audience that won't automatically turn up again. The film was pushed hardcore towards audiences that don't turn up for these superhero movies. At least here in the States, the film was practically a social movement that is rarely seen with these kinds of blockbusters. It had Best Picture buzz for viewers who aren't interested in blockbusters, its push towards representation, with campaigns to bring kids of color free tickets to the movie, was something you never saw for any Marvel movie up to that point. And it was such a phenomenon here in the states that even people who were growing tired of Marvel or had no interest in the property wanted to join. Anecdotal, but my mom has never seen an MCU movie in her life. The only movies she's interested in watching are either Mom Movies starring actresses she likes and awards bait. Nothing else. The last superhero movie she ever saw in theaters was Dark Knight when she took me and my brother when I was 10 years old. But she was still super hyped and invested in checking the first movie out. That means something. And like a lot of follow-up sequels to big breakout hits that bring in more than the usual fandom, that doesn't always mean people will show up again, even if they like the previous film. This won't have the same Best Picture hype or social curiosity, even from people who liked the first movie, I doubt the same GoFundMe campaigns and Time magazine headlines will appear once again, and this is already well ahead of almost every other MCU movie that the room for growth isn't really as high IMO. This is falling for the same reason Spider-Man 2, Chamber of Secrets, Fallen Kingdom, The Last Jedi, and, using MCU for a second, Age of Ultron fell. I know this is different from every other MCU sequel, but this is a different beast of an MCU movie. And sure, maybe Multiverse and Thunder may be hurting it. And there is nothing that will change my mind that the constant TV shows are also hurting the MCU's appeal. At the very least, I think we can say they are certainly not helping. But I don't believe this is as doomsday as people are making it out to be. So yeah, sub-200 is fine for a sequel to a big breakout film, because Black Panther is more like Jurassic World or IT: Chapter One. You can explain to me why Black Panther is like the other MCU films and how a Marvel movie opening to less than 200 is a disaster and how inflation means it has to make more money than God until you're blue in the face. but I don't have reason to believe a 175M opening is anything to fret or complain about. This is also a hint to some of you that if we do get a 175M opening or whatever not to have a mental breakdown in the weekend thread. We really don't need this energy.
  8. I mean the copium is by...one person. And it's obvious they aren't going to change their mind no matter what you show them, so just ignore and let them be.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Greater Philadelphia Area Seat Report T-38 and Counting Sellouts Showings Seats Sold Total Seats Perct Sold TOTALS 0 235 3494 41714 8.38% Comp 0.310x of Spider-Man: No Way Home's First Day (15.51M) 0.567x of Doctor Strange 2's First Day (20.41M) 3.882x of Jurassic World: Dominion T-38 (69.88M) 0.947x of Thor 4's First Day (27.47M) I admit I am speaking from somebody who is expecting a decline from the opening weekend for a variety of reasons (not an invitation to argue with me by the by), but this does seem a touch soft for an area that will possibly overindex (though it does seem the overindexing for Black-led movies in Philly is starting to lose steam? Woman King and Nope seemed pretty normal last I remember). I will say however I do think it's important to remember that this has a much larger pre-sales window compared to everything else, which makes it imperfect to give true comparisons. Hence why I included Dominion, which is the best example for a film with a super long presale window. Still, I'm sure once I post this that I'll have a million meltdowns and temper tantrums in this thread I'll have to wake up to. Ohhhhhh joy.

And as an aside, while I admit I haven't been paying close attention to other people's data, so I could be missing something, but these ticket sales for Black Adam seem fine? Outside of a couple outliers high and low, things are pointing to high single digits, which like...okay, not an amazing opening, but doesn't indicate some Morbius-style disaster like people are now handwringing themselves over. Feel like I'm missing something.

  15. Guys, it's only been 90 minutes. And honestly, I don't remember any crashes for Strange and Thor, but the warning bells weren't being rung there. So why do it now? Please relax, because the universe doesn't need this annoying Monday morning quarterbacking.
  16. Oh this is a full-blown musical? Would be nice if they picked an actress who could sing, but I guess I can't do anything to stop that.
