That was somewhat rhetorical. I know the real reason is because people just have to post about how awful and evil Disney is, even when it makes no sense in context. If Pirates 3 was a Universal movie or something, everybody would be like "yeah, Pirates 3 does have the bigger opening. Totally makes sense". It's just all baffling to me because you already have plenty of valid ammo to dunk on Disney. You don't have to make stuff up to get your "Disney bad" point across.

I'm confused how people here are like "Disney is petty lol lol lol" because like...Pirates 3 is the bigger opening. That's a fact. That film's Thursday gross totally counts for the opening much like how Top Gun's Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday count. Disney isn't trying to brag, they're giving a totally valid correction that a lot of people neglect and ignore.

People love to use “marketing” as a shorthand excuse when their faves bomb. It wasn’t marketed enough, it’s marketing wasn’t good enough, blah blah blah. And really, nine times out of ten, movies have a strong ad campaign and are promoted as advertised. The bigger issue is just that if your movie isn’t a nostalgic toy commercial, audiences refuse to watch it.

I think Ryan Reynolds said he was planning a new Clue? But I think it was before Disney bought Fox, so I don’t know if it got scrapped or not

I’m not generally one of those “THIS SHOULD NEVER GET REMADE OR GET A SEQUEL”. Movies aren’t these sacred relics and there’s far worse things our capitalist hellscape has done compared to a crappy sequel. But like…man, I will honestly give up on Hollywood forever if they make an E.T. sequel. It’s too pure and too good to have some garbage nostalgia cashgrab follow up next to it.
