  1. Nah, the car sex movie is by Neon. They're basically the studio for Film Twitter hipsters who think A24 is too mainstream.

  3. -Finale factor with this being Craig's last movie -Better reviews than Spectre -Buzzier, splashier cast than Spectre, including Rami and Ana de Armas fresh off two massive box office hits -Billie Eilish doing the theme song, who is a bigger deal than Sam Smith It seems clear to me there were plenty more tools and hooks that indicate this would have done better Spectre pre-pandemic. And even now I still think going sub-70, especially after the immensely strong ticket sales at the beginning of its run, is kind of disappointing, even with all the circumstances And before some of you start to breathe down my neck, yes I'm aware the film is still doing well here in the States and overseas. Yes I know there's a pandemic. Yes I know that adult audiences aren't coming back yet. You don't have to explain to me stuff I'm already aware about.

  6. It's called speculation. That thing we do every day on the forum. Where we predict what will happen before numbers based on the limited information we are given. You don't have to like what CJohn is saying, but I don't get you being upset over him predicting things. That's a major aspect of the forum.
  7. Got the first trailer for this a couple times recently. When I heard the moody, slowed down remix of Rihanna, I was in hysterics.
  8. I never said these kinds of movies will open to those levels or need to open at those levels. I'm just saying that Bond failing to crack 70M is concerning for something like Gucci or Belfast because Bond has more going for it and the latter films may generate poor box office results below expectations and their comparables.
  9. BOND JAMES BOND For a while, James Bond, while popular, felt a little bland. Pierce Brosnan’s run earned less and less praise and excitement as time went on, with many thinking the series was a relic of the past. Especially after the nadir of Die Another Day, the Fleming series was getting too goofy and Brosnan was getting too old. In an era where Jason Bourne and Jack Bauer became the hot new spies in town, Eon had to do something, and they soon found the right guy. Daniel Craig became the new James Bond to immense backlash from fanboys, unaware about what Craig represented. This was a new Bond for a new generation. A Bond that’s dark, emotional, gripping, realistic, yet still full of the intense, fun action we all know and love. And sure enough, this man would become the one actor that truly captured what Ian Fleming envisioned all these years ago. And with such acclaim, Craig’s Bond would take the series to incredible box office heights, with all of his movies ranking as the highest-grossing Bond titles of all time...unadjusted for inflation of course. Of course, every actor has to leave a role at some point. And for Daniel Craig, his last time donning the iconic suit and nifty gadgets is with the appropriately-titled No Time to Die. This film promises globe-trotting adventure, Rami Malek hamming stuff up, and an iconic Billie Eilish song, all wrapped into one glorious package from director Cary Fukunaga. With so much going for it, nothing could have gone wrong here. Then everything went wrong. In a shocking move that confused everybody, No Time to Die was pulled from its April 2020 release, a month before its big debut. Little did we know that Mr. Bond would serve as a trendsetter for what was one of the worst years in history. Three release date changes later, fans can now finally say goodbye to Mr. Craig on the big screen. The way it was always meant to be. And despite being 18 months late, the hype and excitement for this new Bond tale is still sharp. As said before, this represents the end of an era for the series. Not just because its flagship star will retire from the role, but this will be the last Bond release before MGM is swallowed up by the Amazon machine. A cruel irony, that of a Bond villain owning James Bond. We don’t know what the future holds for this series, in terms of actors or distribution, but we can at least enjoy the present with this anticipated release. And now, time for the boring rules part of this post. 1. ABSOLUTELY NO SPOILERS. NOT EVEN SPOILERS POSTED UNDER SPOILER TAGS. This rule is applied to all weekend threads, but it's especially true for this weekend. People bought tickets for this movie more than a year ago. So there's a lot of pent-up excitement going on here. And sadly, because this pandemic is still a bitch and a half, not everybody will have a chance to see it right away. So please be careful about what you say. This also applies to other movies in theaters and films/shows recently releasing on streaming. So no Venom 2 spoilers, no Addams Family spoilers, no Many Saints spoilers, no Squid Game spoilers, etc. You are free to give general opinions, but try to avoid going into any further detail. If you do spoil something here, you will be banned. No exceptions. Don't be a dick. 2. KEEP YOUR AGENDA OUT OF HERE. We get it. Movie theaters are dead forever. Streaming is a disease. Woke critics don't understand real movies. Marvel is the greatest film series ever created. Disney/Marvel is destroying cinema and Kevin Feige/Bob Chapek/Kathleen Kennedy is the spawn of Satan. James Cameron is the true king of the box office. Yadda yadda yadda. There's a time and place for these kinds of statements...actually, there isn't. But at the very least, it doesn't belong here. If you want to start these beefs related to all of these dumb children's movies, go somewhere else. If you do this kind of stuff here, you will be banned. No exceptions. Don't be a dick. 3. THE REPORT AND IGNORE BUTTONS ARE YOUR FRIENDS. See a post that’s breaking the rules? DO NOT RESPOND TO IT. Just hit the Report button, give an explanation to the problem, including the context, then hit "Submit". We the mods will determine the post and see if it's breaking the rules and give out repercussions. See a poster that's consistently annoying? Then just highlight their name and click "Ignore User" on the pop-up. It'll save lives and hopefully cause less of an uproar or infighting. While trolls are already bad, responding to them only makes it worse. So again...Don't be a dick. 4. IS OFF-TOPIC DISCUSSION OKAY? Well...yes and no. We want people to stick to box office numbers as best as they can. However, there are plenty of dead periods of time with no new numbers. So off-topic discussions are okay to have at these times, so long as they don't impede numbers discussion. So if there's no action, and you want to bemoan the tragic loss of Shrek 4D, argue about whether Ted Lasso's gone downhill, or dissect the Kingdom Hearts storyline, that's totally fine. Just remember that when the numbers come up to keep those discussions down to a minimum. Keep on doing that, and it becomes a chore for many who just want to know the numbers. Don't. Be. A. Dick. And lastly... 5. DON'T BE A DICK. Sometimes things get hostile among users. Whatever the reason may be, if you're not following any of these rules or are straight up not being nice, you're going to get the banhammer smashed onto you. Concern trolling? Banned. Revealing that Carnage kills Dumbledore? Banned. Just posting something unpleasant or mean? Banned. And if you're unsure if you can handle being nice for one weekend, then, simply put, get out of here. You probably know what I'm gonna say next. TL;DR No spoilers, no fanboy wars. Keep it nice, keep it neutral, don't attack others, and you'll be fine. If you don't do this stuff, you'll risk a threadban, a suspension, or even a permanent ban, so tread lightly. Outside of that, just have fun! And three last things, First off, this thread will likely lean into being more domestic-focused. If you want to know about how NTTD is doing in other countries, look at the International section of the forums here. We also have a thread dedicated to NTTD here. Second, the lovely and beautiful @WrathOfHan is set to host the second edition of the Top Horror Movie Countdown, where you get to submit and vote for your favorite horror movies in a glorious countdown extravaganza. The deadline is October 17, only 10 days away. It may seem far, but it will creep up on you like a monster in the night, so try and PM Han your lists as soon as possible. Like with real voting and elections, you can't complain if you didn't vote. Third, WE'RE HAVING A SALE @Water Bottle will place it here shortly, but just know that we strongly encourage our users to donate and upgrade their accounts, as it helps keep the lights on here at the forums, and makes sure we stick around for many more awesome weekends in the future. And now... WITHOUT FURTHER ADO LET'S DO THIS SHIT
  10. If I can speak for myself, here's my big issue. I've been a strong proponent the film would do amazing if it opened on par with Spectre. But the evidence from how awful the last couple days were suggests that 70M+...might not happen. My data shows it dropped like a rock in Philly and there's been zero gains or improvements elsewhere, with a preview number likely in the 6M range. I'm expecting like 10x for the movie's IM (yes Spectre did like 13.4x its previews, but that was six years ago), so that means we could get an opening in the 60M range...maybe even 50M range depending on what the numbers are at the end. That's way below Spectre, for a movie that has much more going for it. And while TwoMisfits is right that adult audiences aren't coming out yet, and that we should expect a lower number, if we're even in the 60M range, that still puts up a lot of warning bells IMO. If one of the biggest franchises for 35+ audiences, one that skews heavily towards said 35+ age demo, still can't reach 70M, what chance is there for other adult-aimed movies? Not just something like Ghostbusters, but the awards hopefuls, the arthouse/specialty fare, or splashy, big-budget fare like House of Gucci or West Side Story. This just puts so many other films in greater jeopardy to fail than they have before, at a time when mid-budget titles, non-franchise fare, and films aimed towards older audiences are unable to justify their existence in multiplexes. And if Bond underperforms, it says to me older moviegoers still aren't eager to come back, and possibly might not ever come back. That's a problem as somebody who likes the movies I mentioned above, as well as the overall diversity of the theatrical landscape. I'm sure I sound like a drama queen and people will think I'm overreacting, but I hope you understand my perspective and, at least for me, it isn't just making a mountain out of a molehill.

Mickey's Law kills another. To the other, adult-oriented films....good luck.

  13. Good to be in that camp lol. I still have no idea what this show is actually about.
  14. Of course not. Every movie has a different trajectory and a different percentage amount of presales vs. walk-ups, dependent ont he franchise and general interest/hype. The age-old example people love to throw out to discredit presales and the work we do is "OMG FANDANGO SAID SOLO SOLD MORE TICKETS THAN BLACK PANTHER????!!!". The thing about this is that Star Wars is a more pre-sales driven beast. The most pre-sales driven franchise at this point in time in fact. Fandango didn't lie, it's just that both movies were different beasts. Venom 2 saw an obscenely high amount of walkups the day of release, which Fandango couldn't track. F9, while not as walkup heavy as Venom 2, was still in the same boat IIRC. It doesn't mean they lied, it's just that this is the information they were given, and they are going to use that information to promote their website and the big new movie coming down the pipeline. People just think of this stuff as binary or fail to account for external factors (or just wanna troll and/or generate an easy clickbait headline), which just leads to a failure of understanding how this stuff works. But that's not a bad thing. If things were binary and Fandango was the end-all be-all of everything, then tracking the box office would be pretty boring. And really, just using Occam's Razor, why would a company make something up? Wouldn't that just lead to terrible PR when they get caught?
