  1. The big problem is that the major exhibitors hate Netflix and have refused to show their movies. Granted, Bird Box and maybe To All the Boys are the only movies I could see making major money in theaters, but that's still a hurdle Netflix is forced to face. But Netflix did recently join the MPAA, and maybe the relations between them and exhibitors could soften or change this year. I'm sure once The Irishman arrives, it'll find its way into a Regal or AMC. That's the one upcoming Netflix movie off the top of my head that could do well commercially
  2. HTTYD 3 just has to reach a 3.2x multiplier to reach the second movie's total. Seems doable, almost a lock, unless Captain Marvel takes a massive dent in its third weekend.
  3. The Sixth Sense. Even knowing the twist, it's still utterly perfect and fantastic. I genuinely can't think of a thing wrong with it. Little Shop of Horrors is also amazing, and it's always a film that brings me joy. Finding Nemo and the first Spongebob movie also fall under the same umbrella, but those are clouded hard by nostalgia.
  4. Perhaps you're allergic to volunteering. Maybe you should get some medication for that. (yes, I'm going to bury this joke into the ground. Gotta start my funniest user campaign somehow)
  5. It could also be a case of Cameron and Rodriguez fanboys causing an initial fanboy rush.
  6. I guess Universal just has the Midas touch when it comes to animation, because that's the only explanation for Dragon 3 making 60M. This was coming off two movies that opened in the mid-40s previously, the last one underperformed and came out five years after the last movie, and while the TV spots and ads were solid, it didn't seem like the GA had much buzz and interest in the movie or the franchise itself. This is honestly kind of mind-blowing. HYPE. Can't wait to see it on Tuesday (ain't seeing that with a bunch of asshole kids)

  8. Love Emily, but I feel like that family's story is finished. I'd rather this be like an anthology looking at different families and people
  9. FWIW, Alita doesn't seem like it'll be a matinee-driven movie, so we could see better results for tomorrow. Also from Deadline That FWMF debut seems pretty alright. The Lego and Romantic drops seem harsh, but understandable.
  10. https://pro.boxoffice.com/long-range-tracking-breakthrough-penguins-the-curse-of-la-llorona/ Breakthrough: 12-20M range. 15/56 Penguins: 4-8M range. 4.5/17.5 La Llorona: 15-25M range. 20/45
  11. Runtimes w/out credits and attachments for next week: Madea Family Funeral: 1:42. Five Feet Apart and Long Shot are the attachments Greta: 1:33. Captive State and Downton Abbey are the attachments
  12. Made $3.5M in previews. Guess there was a huge initial fan rush. Strongly recommend to you (and everyone else) to have this bookmarked. http://www.boxofficereport.com/previewgrosses.html It's a great database for preview grosses that helps me out a lot when it comes to finding comps
  13. 3M previews 10.9M Fri 11.1M Sat 8.3M Sun 30.3M Total Famous last words and all, but I just don't see it being that frontloaded. Just seems too unrealistic of a number. We all thought Brie Larson would save the year. And yet...
  14. Spider-Verse did 3.5M actually. But I have very strong doubts that Dragon 3 will be as frontloaded as that movie. At the very least 50M seems like the floor
  15. It used to be Chadwick Boseman, but now I'm sticking with Shaq in his Kazaam gear, in honor of Will Smith genie.
  16. Looking at other previews, Lego 2 did 1.5M, while Lego Batman did 2.2M. For non-spring comps, HT3 did 2.6M, Grinch did 2.2M, and Spider-Verse did 3.5M. If it follows Lego 2: 3M previews 16.9M Fri inc. previews 30.9M Sat 20.4M Sun 68.2M Total If it follows Lego Batman: 3M previews 19.8M Fri inc. previews 31.4M Sat 21.1M Sun 72.3M Total I don't think it's a lock to reach those numbers, but 50M feels like the floor at this point

  18. For a split second I thought that included the Fandango previews, and was about to have a heart attack. I'll look into historical comps in a minute, but that seems hella good
  19. At least the Disney topiaries will still exist
