The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Ghostbusters: Afterlife Greater Philadelphia Area Seat Report T-17 and Counting Sellouts Showings Seats Sold Total Seats Perct Sold TOTALS 0 59 252 13241 1.90% Comp 1.135x of The Suicide Squad T-17 (4.65M) 0.494x of Shang-Chi T-17 (4.35M) 0.574x of Venom 2 T-17 (6.66M) 0.529x of No Time to Die T-17 (3.33M) So I don't feel I have perfect comps per se with this. The closest I can think of for Afterlife, a family-skewing PG-13 tentpole, was stuff like Jungle Cruise and Free Guy, but those didn't start presales until much closer to release and had miniscule sales on their first day for obvious reasons. But honestly...it's already on day 1 at about a third of both movies' final sales. And these comps aren't so bad I suppose. What I'm trying to say is...nostalgia sells baby. -

Sorry guys. -

This new Ghostbusters is nothing more than wanking off 80s nostalgia. Reviews won't matter since that's the only thing people want anymore. -

Huh. I thought Nickelodeon owned Garfield now. Guess it doesn't really matter. -

So I guess we aren't getting Ghostbusters tickets on sale today? We're already past 11 on the East Coast and you still can't access them. -

Look, I honestly can't think of the last spin-off film that increased from the previous film, at least domestically. Minions was basically billed as Despicable Me 2.5, yet it still declined from Despicable Me 2. And yes I know Lightyear will probably have better reception, but going above 434M, especially when family audience turnout, even by June, will still be up in the air...well, all I can say is when you all have a meltdown when this only gets to 275M or whatever...I told you so.

Oh we're fine "outside opinions". The big issue that got you warning points is because you were being a dick. And I'm not letting disrespectful behavior like that slide. But hey, if you feel that you absolutely have to go after Dune "fanboys" for...*checks notes* thinking Dune is doing okay considering outside circumstances, you're free to visit other forums that are way less strict. The beauty of the Internet is you can find a website that fits you perfectly, so there's no need to go onto forums or sites where you don't like the rules. -

It's always funny when you guys talk about sports in this thread because I have zero clue what you nerds are talking about.

Anecdotal, but my mom mainly watches award shows for the red carpets and pretty dresses, which is why she had zero interest in the quarantined award shows. And looking at the usual "best dressed" articles that prop up after every awards show, I don't think she's alone. Having some beautiful people strut their stuff and put out some banger performances will go a long way in getting the casuals invested. Although I guess on the other hand, stuff like The Crown and Queen's Gambit were watched by just about everybody, so I could be wrong here.
