But isn't it that ticket inflation already have an affect to this? IMO, it's better to compare Frozen with Inside Out, than Minions. Apples and oranges, dude. Frozen is targeted to a different demographic in comparison to Minions. And honestly, from all your posts in this topic, I don't know what you're getting on.

Honestly, Illumination is still a small studio in comparison with big studios like Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks, despite having the successful Despicable Me franchise. Illumination shouldn't rest on their laurels with just one franchise because fads come and go (*ahem* Shrek and Ice age). And their fans will eventually grow up. They should be riskier and more competitive, now that they have money for it. Though, I doubt their studio name is now a household name. I wonder if the kids even know who made the Minions, they might even answer that it's from Disney.

In my perception, Disney is for girls, Pixar is for inanimate objects, while Dreamworks is for boys. Illumination and Blue Sky are interchangeable, they targeted animals.

Nostalgia Critic reviewed BH6 and he said that the movie is just an "okay" movie. http://channelawesome.com/disneycember-big-hero-6/ And I kinda agree with him.

Moana has the epicness going on it, specially they're going for the Polynesian's mythological stories, which is rare and unique to mainstream viewers. But then the concept of Atlantis and Treasure Planet seemed epic too, but they didn't end well.

All eyes on Home now. Too bad it doesn't look promising.

WDAS is back (Revival/Resurgence era). Hopefully this year Pixar will be able to bring their mojo back too.

So with Oscar win, the box office numbers might increase or not.

BH6 was a good and fun to watch, but afterwards it's pretty much forgettable. It's not like I didn't try to like it, I did and I was very excited and already joined the fandom way before I watched the movie. But right after, I left and never came back. And like I said before in this forum, honestly, I love Feast more than BH6.

Chill, man. In my point of view (I'm not an obsesses fan or a hater of it) I think people like either Baymax or Tadashi. But whichever get the Oscar, it won't matter for me because honestly I didn't like any of the major animated films last 2014, which was a bummer as I was wishing to love BH6 before it came out, but I didn't.

I didn't like any of the comic book's movie adaptations, even Marvel's ever famous The Avengers. The Dark Knight is the only exception.

I'll be very happy if either of the 2D animated films won. That's just to signify that 2D medium is not yet dead.

The movie was a success. Period. But common people (those who don't track box office) doesn't know. The movie just come and go. And the question are; do you think BH6 will sell lots of merchandise (e.g. stuff toys, costumes, books, etc.)? Would they result to the increase numbers of tourist visits in Tokyo and San Francisco? Would kids flock Disneyland just to line up for BH6 character meet-ups? Would there be persistent demands for sequel? Would there be new rides to be made? The movie was a one-time hit but not an investment.

Dreamworks really should lower their films' budget. Even if they'll just release a B rated movie or the animation is not on par with Pixar and Disney, people will still flock on their releases, especially they already gained some brand recognition. I read Ed Catmull once said that even if the animation is incomplete, as long as the story resonates, audience won't even notice that there's something wrong with the animation and they'll still love the movie.

I love watching fanboys/fangirls' reactions to the "snub" of the The Lego Movie, saying reasons like; Academy's board in Animation are bunch of old white people, TLM was released last February so they might have forgot about it, Disney always win (even though it should be Pixar bec. they can't see the difference), TLM is a shoo-in so they didn't vote it because they thought it would get in, TLM looked like a huge commercial so they didn't try to watch it, etc., etc. But then when a famous one won the category, e.g. Brave and Frozen, people said that because the Academy board was not watching animated films and they let their kids decide who will win or they'll based it from the popularity of the movie. But then, that's what The Lego Movie was, right? Kids loved that movie and it was so popular (that's why majority thought it was a shoo-in) but still in the end it didn't even get nominated. The irony huh? I would really like to hear an opinion piece from an actual and professional animator to clarify why TLM didn't get nominated. But for my silly reasoning, I think the live action part harmed the movie as it was unfair for the other films that they relied fully on animation as their medium.

Hobbit 3 was a waste of time and I almost wanted to walk out of the cinema, except that it would be a waste of money (and in a way, also TLoR trilogy and first two Hobbits). Too much fighting and the way the scenes jumped was not so good. It was like watching somebody playing a video game, with lot of quests and the player was skipping through some cut scenes but decided to watch some of them. I live in Middle Earth (the country) but I never really get to like the movies esp. its story but the cinematography was good.

Honestly among the nominations, only Big Hero 6 was the one I watched, not even The Lego Movie. But I fell in love with Song of the Sea's trailer. It was so beautiful and I look for a way to watch that one.

Totally agree with you. I hope they just skip Feast or add something like an advert in between before playing BH6 because when BH6 was starting, I was still thinking about Feast and it distracted me from the actual movie. And even when the movie ended, I was still craving for more Feast clips or anything. Actually, I enjoyed and loved Feast more and I think it's better than BH6, all in all! Huh, really weird... A short story with few minutes of runtime is better than a hour and a half movie. And with no dialogue and just good music and simple story.

I finally watched this movie last 26 Dec. and more adults turned up rather than kids (weird maybe because of the time), then the cinema was not full despite it's the opening day and it's in the city. But anyway... I cried when Feast was played, that short alone was worth all the cents. And I'd definitely buy the Blu-ray so I could watch it over and over again. There's collective gasps or wows during the flight scenes or any scenes with beautiful background in BH6. But not much laughs, considering common people treated animated movies as comedy, but the emotional scenes seemed to work okay (though I hope it should be stretch longer so the drama will sink in). All in all, it was good but didn't make me jump into the fandom immediately and obsessively. In comparison to HTTYD in terms of boy with his buddy cliche, I'd rank HTTYD higher. But in terms of the team dynamics, BH6 is definitely better for me. The emotional core of the story, HTTYD on father-son relationship while BH6 on brother/sibling relationship, I chose BH6 because I couldn't relate to HTTYD. The only nitpick I could think of was NEED MORE TADASHI!!! I was lying there's one huge nitpick that really bug me... the soundtrack and voice actors were not that splendid. For me, background music and voice actors are one the primary reasons I become so obsess in an animated product (I love listening to soundtrack!), even though the animation is crappy as hell (e.g. Shingeki no Kyoujin and Death Note), it's the music that makes it so awesome for me, especially if it is very epic! (just listen to the said animes' soundtrack) And mostly I fell in love with voice actors rather than how the characters were designed/looked like. In BH6, I love Baymax's voice so much but the rest, not that much. I don't know about you, but what this movie really lacks for me is the epic soundtrack. Peace out.

I think h/she meant something like Godzilla 2014 not making that much money in Japan, albeit it had a Japanese actor, monster, and setting. So obviously, BH6 is not a guaranteed success in Japan, likewise. I already foreseen that BH6 won't do that well in Japan, unlike everyone expected it to be so successful. And my silly reasoning was because it is a superhero movie, because as far as I know Japanese people don't like Western superhero movies that much. I took a look at The Avenger's numbers in Japan, and it gained $45 million. So BH6 numbers in Japan, is actually expected for me.
