.....am I insane or did this actually cross 1B OS sub-China?

    FOREIGN TOTAL - 4/25/18 $382,823,108 28.1% $1,363,903,341 7/1/18
    China Disney 5/11/18 $191,034,859 53% $360,483,643 7/1/18

:ohmygod: (or duh me and dumb Box Office Mojo? The Numbers reports differently....)

BOM uses the current exchange rate to convert the whole revenue of a country. In China's case, the rate has dropped steadily, dropping the actual revenue. The revenue from China should be at $375M or so. So OS-China is still less than 1B.

Well, taking into account other part-2 movies, the ending chapter normally decreases.

    Matrix Reloaded> Matrix Revolutions

Back to the Future II > Back to the Future III

    Dead Man´s Chest > At World´s End

Kill Bill Vol 1 > Kill Bill Vol 2

I only remember something different with Deathly Hallows Part 2 and Part 1.

I felt that the main "wooow" factor with Infinity War was to have all those characters gathering together for the first time, the second one will be more focused in less characters (making probably a much tighter and better story) and won´t have that novelty.

This should play like Harry Potter-DH1 and 2.

Almost all people who have watched IW would like to see the conclusion of the story.

While some deaths might be reversed, the directors and screenwriters clearly said that there would be consequences, and that would bring out curiosity factor and hype with it. Moreover, there are still impending doom to come, the end(s) of main Avengers that is more "final" than the first movie.

    Let's say, 2.2B.

Wow, people are killing themselves over this?

Tbh - and this is coming from a huge fan of Wreck-It Ralph - this trailer didn't really captivate me either. Yeah, I got a few laughs out of the princess bit and them recognizing that Ralph Wrecks The Internet sounds better (and I absolutely adored some of the gags in the original teaser, like the "You are winner!" one and the milkshake one). But overall, this just feels like a "OH! It's THAT thing! I know what it is! What a great movie, amirite?!" festival, like the Ready Player One book (movie did a better job at balancing everything) or The Emoji Movie. Almost to the point where Disney is just showing off. And that ain't an attitude I'd like to support, especially considering the Fox deal in real life. Maybe if I had gotten a hint of what the plot is going to be, it would've been better than it is, but as it stands.... I liked the teaser a lot more. I also liked The Lego Movie 2's trailer a lot more as well (don't @ me).

But Lego Movie does remind me of what was the perception of that movie before it came out (an unmitigated cash whoring that wouldn't be good in any way), and then it turned out absolutely fantastic. Sure, WIR 2 won't be directed by Lord and Miller, but Rich Moore has done WIR and Zootopia (alongside Byron Howard in the latter's case), which are both even better than Lego Movie for me. So who knows.

I still do not get why people like Lego Movie. First, it's product placement whoring - and I still think it's obscene to do that. The second thing, of all the beautiful animation you can make, why do you make it look like blocky legos? Why? Why?

Why does it need a translation? Just use its official English name here or just "Solo"

It appears that it ricocheted around the internet from a tweet http://www.jedinews.co.uk/film-music-tv/articles/solo-star-wars-story-changes-name-china-ranger-solo/ by none other than our pengyou @Gavin Feng and while I love the guy, I don't think he intended to officially coin its English name, nor does he have the English authority to do so (no offense, Gavin...I really still do love you).

I realize this is all an uphill battle and doesn't matter in the big scheme of things, but we're all sitting here criticizing Disney for its title while in actuality the term 游侠 isn't half bad for Solo's character.

    Some possible translations for Solo?

Hero, daredevil, opportunist, swashbuckler, traveler, adventurer, wanderer

    Swashbuckler doesn't seem too bad.

Surprising that Infinity War had the best hold despite being direct competition.

Well, perhaps SH movies "help" increase SH awareness and in some sense then help each other?

BP also got help from IW in the Dom. Although that one is in the same universe.

If y’all are gonna get super technical about exchange rates and how it looks in Disney’s books, why not go all the way? The official gross that Disney will eventually report (and should be reported elsewhere) will exclude the ticketing fees that aren’t calculated in their revenue share at all. That means opening weekend was ¥1.19309B = $187.6M.

This is not delving into too technical side of things. Of course, to compare apple-to-apple with other territories, we need to have everything gross (with fees).

Usually it does not matter if we use the midpoint exchange rate or the company/producers' exchange rate - except in this case, it matters because it's at the $200m threshold.

I don't really care whether IW got $199.7m or $200.4m, but it's a good lesson about how boxoffice dollars are being counted - so that's why it's a good discussion point.

And what is the exchange rate that will be applied on the Chinese OW? Is that ER determined yet, or will it be at a later stage?

or try now lc1272.7m :), yeah not sure where DL number came from.

Also remember studios/producers convert to $us using intercompany weighted average exchange rates

So, CBO or SARFT will decide the official yuan number, which is 1272.7m.

Disney will decide the $ equivalent using the intercompany weighted average exchange rates, which we don't know. Disney probably will not announce this as it probably relates to tax and other financial calculations. This is probably lower than the midpoint of the conversion rate - as you don't exchange currency at exactly the midpoint if it is being converted from one to another. Hence, the $ amount announced by Disney is probably lower than $200m. But had it been converted by the midpoint conversion rate, it would have been more than $200m.

  10. From Hollywood Reporter:

Black Panther is also making a major push overseas, where it is likewise out-performing expectations (American films with a black cast are perceived to face challenges internationally). The movie is opening in virtually every major market timed to its U.S. launch — exceptions are Russia (Feb. 22), Japan (March 1) and China (March 9) — and has collected a mighty $81.5 million through Friday. The U.K., where Black Panther launched on Tuesday, leads so far with $14.4 million, followed by South Korea ($14.3 million), Australia ($4 million), Brazil ($3.8 million) and Taiwan ($3.5 million).

  11. I saw it with my two kids and we enjoyed the movie a lot. It sometimes felt long, because it was long - but it was really enjoyable and we got some fast-paced moving stories. I enjoyed it more than TFA, which felt long as well, but it really was just introducing characters, played the nostalgia feeling and did not have any actual meaningful story, except the last part of the movie. TLJ gave a bunch of ooh moments too.

So, while the audience might say yea or nay after the first watch, I think people will think of TLJ as a positive step forward for the SW franchise.
