  1. Ah... forgot it's Friday. Thanks btw, Shanghai in bear territory.
  2. My guess is Deng Chao is less of a factor than Stephen Chow when it comes to Mermaid. Besides, Deng Chao irritated a fair number of people by posing 80 positive fan reviews in "retaliation" against the negative reviews on Devils and Angels. He lost 160k followers on weibo in two days. This happens after the running man episode. While his number of followers had recovered since then, I am beginning to see the Chinese media portraying him as a "one trick pony" i.e. just know how to act crazy/cute. For his fans, that is a non-issue but for the vast majority, his image is somewhat tarnished. Box office guarantee is such an odd way of doing business... It is like a command economy approach in a market economy...
  3. Hi, Not sure if there is a thread on Singapore. But here are the 2015 top grossing movies in the city state. Only one Hong Kong movie and a local production. Top-grossing films of 2015 OVERALL TOP 10 (SGD/USD) 1. Marvel's The Avengers: Age Of Ultron - S$13.1 million/ US$9.36 million 2. Jurassic World - $11.7 million/ $8.36 million 3. Star Wars: The Force Awakens* - $9.6 million/ $6.86 million 4. Fast & Furious 7 - $9.2 million/ $6.57 million 5. Ah Boys To Men 3: Frogmen - $7.6 million/ $5.43 million 6. Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation - $7.4 million/ $5.29 million 7. Minions - $7 million/ $5 million 8. Ip Man 3* - $6.8 million/ $4.86 million 9. Spectre* - $6.5 million/ $4.64 million 10. Marvel's Ant-Man - $6.1 million/ $4.36 million
  4. I don't think the upcoming movies will cause SW7 to fall 80 to 90%. I suspect a drop aroubd 70%
  5. Deng Chao and Sun Li isn't exactly in good light these days with the widely panned Devil and Angel. While Sun Li's new TV drama had high viewership, the reviews are not exactly balmy. They probably need President Xi to watch the show and say that it is nice.
  6. Why not enjoy the ride down and buy near the support at 2,400. The national army will most certainly come out by then. How I wish I can buy Wanda Cinemas
  7. I believe there is a Twitter feed that Olive or Firedeep posts here at around 10pm. I am not sure of a real time English feed. Maybe NoPrisoner will have an idea?
  8. Sorry, I think we kinda started to move away from SW7. Currently tracking at around ¥32m. I suspect that the final number would drop by less than 15% today.
  9. ID4 2 has added the Chinese space squadron. That will help. CA3 and X-Men should be popular. Why do you think WoW is locked?
  10. With or without Star Wars, Disney will invest in China so that they can answer to their shareholder. They will not get out of China just because SW is not doing well. In fact, they have to invest more because in 2 to 3 years time, the Chinese market will be the biggest. The relationship is reversed. My sense is that Disney has to start new franchise or buy existing ones that has an appeal to the Chinese. By the way, Chinese companies are no pushovers these days. In fact, I dare say that Chinese internet economy is more vibrant than even USA. In other words, it is not relying on Google, Apple or Amazon but Huawei, Alibaba and Tencent to fuel growth. Wanda's purchase of Legendary Films is just the start.
  11. Incredible... HLW is not benefiting from the frenetic growth in China. I hope the movie that can reverse this trend is KFP3. By the way, if China grows as fast for the whole year as you predicted for Jan, it will be more than US$10b even at an exchange rate of ¥6.70 to US$1!!!
  12. I found the answer to this question via maoyan. 2nd Tuesday 2015 (13th Jan 2015): ¥43.936m 2nd Tuesday 2016 (12th Jan 2016): ¥72.633m (of which ¥39.765 is SW7) So, looks like the market is still growing very fast (65%) despite the stock market turmoil in China.
  13. Is it affecting the yoy weekly increase? Still higher than last year's same week?
  14. I hope your butt survive the showing of 8 movies... Anyway, based on boxofficemojo, Titanic 3D's release in China in 2012 may actually beat TFA gross... http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=intl&id=titanic3d.htm
  15. Personally, I hate films that attempt to milk the audience for all its worth e.g. Harry Potter deathly hallow 1 and 2. More importantly, I feel that they wasted an opportunity to reinvent SW like the Batman series by Christopher Nolan. Hence, to me it really doesn't make sense to support a remake. And for it to break the record of original films i.e. Titanic and Avatar, I am uncomfortable.
  16. Fully agree with tupek. In fact, I feel that subsequent viewing online of SW7 will kill SW8.
  17. Given that SW7 worldwide gross is now 1.733 billion, with additional $150m from North America and $60m from China, can it beat Titanic 2.187 billon worldwide? It seems like even this is a question mark now...
  18. I believe Olive will be updating very soon. Based on weibo, SW7 gross today isn't pretty...
  19. So would anything produced by Legendary Entertainment be considered as "domestic production"?
  20. I suppose the best performing Hollywood film in China this year won't be SW7. Prob Avengers: Civil War?
  21. Looks like more people are viewing this thread... Thanks to Star Wars Can we live and let live? Many people in the English speaking world LOVE SW7, but not everyone. Much fewer in Asia are that crazy about SW7, but a fair number are. There are both female and male fans, LGBT included. The same demographic for non-fans like myself. We don't have to insist everyone has the same taste, do we? It will be pretty odd for the democratic west to demand that
  22. "China led the way as the final international market to open with an estimated two-day weekend (total) of US$53 million, making it the highest Sat/Sun opening of all-time there as well as the biggest industry opening Saturday of all-time," a statement from Disney said. Is this statement for real?
