Reminder that anyone who said the trailer didn't look that different from the CGI of the original needs glasses or hasn't seen the original.

The first teaser is even out and Charlies already predicting 1 billion domestic
hahahaha that's pretty nice
Exactly what I said would happen too. The man has gone from 2 billie club to 3billie club, will be at 4 billie club by the time the full trailer drops.
Cameron didn't want to show this at CinemaCon is my guess so basically threw together this sizzle reel. He wants to drop the real thing at ComicCon SD, he's a man of the people. If he's in person at SDCC this goes to my point - didn't even bother turning up to LV for this.

Honestly, im looking forward for this films box office run for one main reason:
We will finally know how much this will gross. We will finally know if the Cameron loonies here were right or wrong all along, aswell as the people who give this film more modest predictions like me. Either way, it will be tons of fun to follow this run.
The fact we're even called 'loonies' makes it hilarious too. If it does meet or exceed our expectations or bomb, either way there are going to be people who will be imploding (me included).
I've already got my flight to Switzerland booked if this does under a billion.

THIS. It should be a obvious point, but a lot of people don't get.
You really think you gave a Hitchock film's script t oanother director, you would get a Hitchcock film?
Agreed. See: Psycho remake.

I don't have a problem with Cameron rerealesing Avatar...it has been long enough that you have a whole bunch of people who have never seen it on the big screen just on video......but to say it is going to be a huge grosser and make more then NWH is just plain silly.
It's getting the full rerelease treatment, and it's literally going to be remastered in both visuals and sound. Disney even included it in their slate of films image as its own thing.
It will act as both a movie and as an advertisement.

Is this the Alita thread now?

$50m domestic with these ticket prices and with a well-marketed wide re-release with little in the way of competition for nearly a month sounds very doable.
With inflation tickets might just be 100 bucks a pop come September too.

Could the Avatar re-release pass NWH lol
There are so many people who never had the chance to see this how it was supposed to be seen - in 3D. I think there's an excellent chance we see a mini-WOM boom for the re-release.

Now whether it would have done better is anyone's guess. I really like the film we got and it's a shame we probably won't get a sequel.
So long as the Avatar saga does Jim numbers I think there is a good chance we see Alita sequels.

Funny anecdote, when Jim was born his Mom wanted to call him Billy, but his Dad had a vision from God and said "No, he'll make enough of those himself. We'll call him Jim."

Not at all. Cameron surely had some influence but he only showed up once on set and made it clear to Rodriguez that it was his movie.
It's an account less than a month old. Trolling. Probably an older banned user and has already been warned by the mods. Ignore them.
We all know Jim is king of the billies.

I was also bang right on Avatar being re-released.

I'd put an asterisk to it due to all re- releases but it's still quite a feat
No one puts asterisks on Gone with the Wind being release 10+ times when they're talking about it being inflation adjusted top dog. No reason why the same won't be true for Avatar.

First to 1 billion: CHECK
First to 2 billies: CHECK
First to 3 billies: IMMINENT
Will be the first to 4 aswell.
When this cinematic history is written people are going to look back and think James Cameron had cheat codes to the universe when it comes to his box office record breaking ability.

That might be an issue.
AFAIK there don't exist projectors that can switch between the frame rate they're projecting. So who knows - we'll see, I assume Cameron et al. have tested this.

Cameron was so involved with Alita (with his name on it way more than Rodriguez) including writing it and overseeing so much of it that to act like it would've done better if he was in the director's seat is disingenuous at best.
You've already been warned by @Eric is a furry - take the trolling somewhere else. We may all be 'Cameron CHUDs' but we're keeping it about Avatar here. Right Eric?
Also can we all just take a moment to appreciate the fact that Avatar is going to be the first to break 3 billies?
Not once. Not twice. BUT THRICE.
-
It's projected at a constant 48fps just so we are clear. It ramps down to what looks like 24 but is still being projected at 48fps.

Is the movie itself going to have the high frame rate, or is it just for the presentation?
Variable frame rate and yes the entire movie.

They should’ve left the 2 in the title. Now it sounds like a A:TLA spin off.
Agree. Although I think the reasoning is that each of these can also be enjoyed as standalones. I do think it should be called Avatar 2: TWoW though.
-
Back to the topic at hand. I do think what Jim said prior to the footage is the most important part of this. This is a film where the focus doesn't seem like it will be on a single person saving the world. When he said it's going to be like 'The Godfather' I do get the impression it's going to be about that interfamily tension and struggle that we see there.

Moderation
@IronJimbo @JamesCameronScholar @ImNotExcited@watcher1232@dudalb
I'm gonna say this once, and this applies to everybody here on both sides: we're not doing this "lol look at all the doubters, Jimbo is amazing" BS anymore. We're not doing this "lol look at these Cameron fanboys. So delusional. Fanboys gonna fanboy" It's not funny, never was funny, and frankly is unnecessary nonsense that clogs up the forums.
We still have eight months to go, and we really don't need to deal with this garbage any longer. Anybody who continues to backtalk "the haters" or "the fanboys" will see a thread ban. I also expect all parties to tolerate differing opinions on the film's quality, the marketing, the box office potential, and so on. You're adults, so act your age.
Thanks Eric, glad to see you keeping this place clean. Broom those trolls up.

Get this troll out of the thread. If Cameron had directed it I believe it would. Take your fanboy wars back to reddit.

Why is this only coming up now? The actual avatar fans have had to put up with that for the last 10 years and only now are you shutting it down? Avatar CHUDs eating well. Avatar haters SEETHING.
