I agree with this actually, its just a shame that the one really good film they made is the one that suffered. Solo is the one that deserves a $2B WW gross, not that horrible ep7 abortion.

Why? Its a really good movie that fans that have actually seen it like a lot. Its terrible BO changes nothing about its quality. BO performance says nothing about a movies quality at all, popular doesn't equal good especially when people WONT see it for 'reasons'. It does have good WOM, that doesnt mean I think its going to hit 300M or anything. This is the general r/movie thread about solo They also like it, and they ripped TLJ to pieces.

Not all subreddits are The_Donald. The movie/TV subreddits are pretty fair for fans. If something is wrong or bad they generally say so.

Did I not say FAN reaction was positive? Where else do you find fan reactions other than a fan site? Cinemascore has it at A-.

Its the best SW movie since Empire, so they are right to be excited about it.

Except they generally disliked TLJ and criticism of TFA is common. Of all the fan sites the subreddit is pretty level headed.

Word of mouth for this is very good right now. All the fan sites, blogs and forums are buzzing. Even the GA reaction seems to be great. If ever there was evidence that the RT audience score has been poisoned by trolls and bots its this.

Bitter sweet for them really. Its the best SW movie since Empire, and they have to be responsible for a large part of that. The undeserved criticism and the BO failure is something they luckily avoid I hope.

Solo had a really nice mix of the feel of both OT and PT, and avoided most of the garbage of the ST. It feels to me like a product of 1-6 and the EU, and its as if 7 and 8 never happened. If only.. The sad thing is LF will probably take its BO failure as sign it went wrong here, when it actually went wrong at TFA by painting itself into a corner of boring and mediocre.

Not sure what message LF is supposed to get from all these grosses. It seems like the fans want new, but old and recycled, weak and obvious fan service, but not subtle, dark, but family friendly and funny, but serious.

How you can level those criticisms at RO and Solo and say you enjoyed 7 and 8 are beyond me.

Definitely the best Disney SW movie. It was fun from start to finish, had some great lines, was well acted and some neat, but often subtle, fan service. L3 being the Falcons computer is really nice, ties in well with the OT and the Han and Chewie bromance worked perfectly. It was a lot more fun than RO, and the characters were more likeable. Much more consistent than TLJ, there wasnt much to upset 'fans', not much wasted potential. Better on every level than TFA. It managed to be both fan service and new, its characters were interesting, the story was engaging and the universe seemed large and rich again. None of that was true of TFA. The difference is the DCEU movies deserve it for being utter shit. Solo is actually really good.

Its a real shame this has done so badly. After 2 views I now think its the best Disney Star Wars movie, and easily the most authentically Star Wars feeling.

I feel very much like that, but i didnt need TLJ to reach that conclusion. The trilogy was doomed immediately for me.

Anyway, its now 1 hour until the final showing at my local here in the UK. They have still sold a grand total of 4 tickets..

An animated movie, what like Shrek , Toy Story or Frozen? I didnt seriously use it as an argument anyway, I simply pointed out that SW doesnt automatically mean super popular and ever increasing. The TV shows had been on the cusp of cancellation more than once each.

There is a difference between being not a good thing, and being unrealistic. Mischaracterised implies to me that it was unexpected, not that it was unpleasant.

My prediction is DOM only right now. I haven't done the maths for WW.

It was a Kylo/Rey story, and it was always going to be, whoever wrote it. Finn and Poe were always superfluous.

He behaved like himself though. Poe had no character beyond grinning idiot in TFA. Ren behaved like himself, Rey saw herself in Ren, which is why she felt sympathy. Im not saying it was all great or anything, but it wasn't mischaracterisation.
