We have something to compare to those movies. They are more comparable to movies such as Jurassic Park or Star Wars in the nostalgia area.

Charlie basically answers for me. What contributed to those movies box office success was due to their uniqueness and originality, but repeating that same formula might not be enough, they have to be better than both of their previous movies and put something refreshingly new to the table for the audience to chew on for repeated viewings.

The only one with a chance to not outgross CM domestic for me is FROZEN 2, Frozen might beat as successful as the original but still come close to 430m and not beat CM.

Yeah, it seems like the movie is doing whatever it takes to increase its budget and also insuring it bombs along the way too. I don't really know what the expectation for it domestic take is in here, but I wouldn't expect more 100m.

I don't really like the fanboyism of James Cameron fans in this forum. But I feel like the people supporting or want AEG to outgross Avatar will pull everything they perceive to be an advantage for Avatar and try to claim that it's run was less impressive than what AEG is achieving, to be biased towards AEG, when they don't do the same for AEG. They don't consider the time difference between the two releases and the state of each market now and then. You are only pointing to one thing (ER) to say Avatar's perfomance is less than that of AEG, without considering everything else that might point to Avatar's box office run in positive light. I feel like we are not seeing are fair assessment of both movies performances.

I don't get why some people were predicting the normal MCU bumps and drops for this behemoth. There really isn't nothing to compare to this movie's remarkable opening weekend performance or maybe it's entire run. You don't just open to 357m, and that's over 100m the previous opening weekend record and expect similar drops such as AIW or the first Avengers movie or even Black Panther. So the people that were expecting this movie to behave anything like those movies were setting themselves up for minor meltdowns. So lower your expectations for Saturday and Sunday.

This is a real fanboy rage that is the majority, if they didn't listen the movies box office would have suffered. This weren't just youtube incels having bad reaction to the designs.

But the logical thinking inside that guys is just beyond this world.
