That makes it the biggest single domestic release of all time, by the way. That's what I love about James 'Jim' Cameron, an incredible acheivement to make the highest grossing film of all time with his own original scripts and no franchise or book to gain hype from... not once... but twice though?
I'm sorry but this did the mech vs monsters coming to end the world trope a thousand times better. Tel Toro said in a reddit ama that he "loved" anime and he goes on to say he's never watched NGE (pictured above) despite loving anime and making Pacific rim... you would think he would have used it as a case study or something. I had to go through some hoops to get Annihilation work in 1080p on Netflix, pretty damn annoying, you would think with it being a straight to Netflix international release they would be prepared for it or something.
The big time directors are never interested in making video games film, theres so many potential video games that could be spectactular but we're just not seeing the visionaries getting behind them.
The common trend seems to be to pick action games where gameplay is what makes them good.
