So about Hell or high water , fantastic movie & amazing screenplay but the thing is will it get enough #1 votes ???

I really don't like that rule at all. Yeah, it's hard for me to believe that it'll get that many votes, which would be a shame in my opinion. Best movie I've seen so far this year! (haven't seen much)

  2. Your Name should definitely release next year if it wants more credibility. Next year, it definitely wouldn't be so crowded... at the moment, the only 2017 animated films that I could see definitely getting nominations are Pixar's Coco and Triplets of Belleville director Sylvian Chomet's The Thousand Miles. Most other animated films seem to be either sequels or directed towards the younger audience.

It would be great to see a non-Ghibli anime film be nominated, but I think Your Name wouldn't be able to achieve that this year.

    Trolls over Sing? Doubt it.

The problem with Lego is in its own name and concept. Animated feature about a brand of toys? No matter how good it is or the success. No matter, for example, how good Angry Birds would have been. Or even Trolls. Academy won't ever like to nom such things.

I know that Sing plot is not that original. But it feels fresh and it is kind of a musical. Being released close to other praised musical (La La Land) will be helpful. It is also meaningful to underline that Sing has premiered at TIFF.

Now I guess I know how that Emoji film will fare next year...

I think the nominations will look like this

    1. Song from La La Land
    2. Another Song from La La Land
    3. Song from Moana
    4. Song from Sing Street
    5. Undetermined

#5 could be a song from Moana or Sing Street. Or maybe "Try Everything" from Zootopia or "Can't Stop the Feeling" from Trolls.

I could see "Nobody Knows" by The Lumineers from Pete's Dragon sneaking into that 5th spot.

Shrek was huge when it was first out. With the ho-hum reactions to the last two sequels, people tend to forget that the first film had pretty much every conceivable demographic on board, hence the first sequel's stunning explosion at the box office.

Furthermore, Wallace & Gromit's win wasn't a surprise in the slightest. It was the unanimous favorite to win heading into the ceremony. Yes, Ghibli had established presence with the win for Spirited Away, but hardly anyone was anticipating that Howl's would come close to a win because: 1.) it was neither as acclaimed nor as successful (relatively speaking) as Spirited Away, and 2.) unlike Spirited Away, it was up against English-language films that drew significant plaudits from critics (whereas the competition three years earlier was a smattering of hit films aimed mostly at kids... and Treasure Planet).

It's kinda crazy to consider how deep this category could be this year (although they won't have the balls to nominate Sausage Party), and yet Zootopia is still going to win in a landslide unless Moana ends up being some Frozen-level phenomenon.

I would've thought Corpse Bride would have won over Wallace and Gromice back then! XD

I have seen most of the top rated anime movies. It is not surprising at all that only Ghibli works have been nominated as they as so far above the rest, with the exception of maybe a few like Wolf Children. The reason I am saying "Your Name" has a chance is because early word is its on level with Ghiblis best. Will find out if that is true soon since it comes out in Japan today.

Well, it is directed by the person that directed 5 Centimeters Per Second. That one is really well known!
