My predictions are bad... I can already tell...

"Nobody Knows" by The Lumineers from Pete's Dragon

I've decided to make a new prediction list. I'm only putting down eight, like last time.
Arrival
Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk
Birth of a Nation
La La Land
Loving
Manchester by the Sea
Moonlight
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
(That trailer last night... I think we might have an Oscar contender!)
-
I'm going to update my selection.
Zootopia
Finding Dory
Kubo and the Two Strings
Moana
The Red Turtle
I'm going completely safe!
And I'm apologizing now for putting Storks in over Zootopia back in February. That was quite a dumb move.

I feel like this is the one where certain films will suddenly jump into the forefront. That's probably true with every big festival, though...

BEST NEWS today!
Animated film MY LIFE AS A COURGETTE submitted by Switzerland for the Foreign BP!
My favorite animated film of the year along with Red Turtle and Zoo
This has a shot at a nom in the animated category as well.
Wow! It speaks volumes about a film's quality if a whole country is willing to back the film in question.

Little Men is currently getting amazing reviews. But will it be a contender?
Personally, I think it's got a shot at being like Boyhood. It's not as praised by any means, but it's certainly lauded nonetheless, so a great movie with a similar theme could hit the mark. Maybe.
(I just realized I'm like a conversation starter. Is that okay?)

Tom Ford's Nocturnal Animals, and Denis Villeneuve's Arrival (aka Story of your Life), will premiere at the next Venice Film Festival!

In a surprise twist, Twenty One Pilots has a song for Suicide Squad, and everyone seems to be eating it up. But is it a contender?
-
I'll be the one to point out the pop songs: Can't Stop The Feeling by Justin Timberlake for Trolls, Just Like Fire by P!nk for Alice Through the Looking Glass, and Saw It Coming by G-Eazy and Jeremih for Ghostbusters. None of those individual movies should be receiving Oscars, but we'll see what happens with the songs.

How does everyone feel about Daniel Brühl for Captain America: Civil War? He did a great job.
-
Phantom Boy, a GKids distribution, is releasing fairly soon, too. This year is extremely competitive.

Hunt for the Wilder People is based on Wild Pork and Watercress by Barry Crump, so it's not in the right category there.

It tested more than a year ago and people didn't like it then either. I think it is keeping its release date so that TWC looks like less of a mess.
Thank you!

So both Ratchet & Clank and Angry Birds are both non-starters, then?

Don't count out The Accountant!
That trailer for Ben Affleck's new movie seems like it'll be great. I don't know if action movies are really the Academy's thing, but you never know.

The Jungle Book
Rogue One
A Monster Calls
Passengers
Warcraft

Neel Sethi did one of the best Mowgli interpretations ever in the Jungle Book. I think he might be in the running for a nomination. Serious.
Neel Sethi was basically acting by himself in the movie, but not only did he be himself and allow his personality to be displayed, but he also demonstrates very good emotional acting. It's not a normal suggestion by any means, but I think he deserves it.
Best Animated Feature - 2016: Zootopia, Moana, Kubo, Zucchini, Red Turtle

I've seen a lot of anime, and Your Name, to me, just looks like a highly polished one. What I saw looks good, but I think it would probably have to have 90% or above on Rotten Tomatoes before it could come anywhere remotely close to being nominated in this year of competition. There are higher profile anime films out this year, too... but after Boy and the World last year, I think anything can sneak in with enough critical acclaim.
