I'm not on the site enough to really know about the threads or anything like that...
Somewhat expected result though...

@Spaghetti by the Sea I understand that this is last minute, but can I do the second write up for Hell or High Water?
[Whoops. Double-post.]

-
@Spaghetti by the Sea When do you want me to PM my write-up? Or is there something else we do with write-ups?
(Full nominee list is on page 43 of this thread for anyone who needs to know)

the man's track record isn't that big honestly , the only good Nolan movies were TDK and Inception , Inception received a lot of love and TDK was a superhero movie and those don't get any
I personally think Nolan is a mediocre version of Villeneuve
I dunno, man, Memento has its fans.

I still haven't seen Kubo...
Or Moana...
Or the foreign ones...

You mean I Ran by Flock of Seagulls?
Edit: I get it now...

Regardless, the success of the Lego Movies gives WAG credibility and a better marketing budget, so this time, they're going to keep releasing films for a while.
-
@Spaghetti by the Sea If nobody else wants to do a write up for Hunt for the Wilderpeople, I could do one for that because I saw that one recently and enjoyed it a lot.
-
I had thought that the animated short Piper seemed like a good choice for best animated short, so now I think it really will win.

You guys might want to put the preferential ballot deadline in the thread title
I second this.

2017 is gonna be a great year for risktakers.

I just realized that Deepwater Horizon was shut out, even from technical awards. That's okay. I just saw it yesterday and thought it deserved a lot of different nods but I'll live.
Deepwater Horizon is still a fantastic film regardless and it might restore your faith in American heroism.

Buzz for this film feels non-existent to me. I think this one might struggle.

Mmm I wonder if the Academy award The Salesman for a political statement
It took me a second glance at this post but I now know exactly why it's getting a benefit.

I think I wouldn't mind catching up on some good movies until the ballots are due...
-
I think Rogue One deserves its noms. It was really good and I think it is the only movie in 2016 I saw twice besides Star Trek Beyond and Zootopia. You know a film is doing something right when the viewer doesn't cry the first time, but actually cries the second time!
(Yeah, I got emotional the second time. To see the will of the force overcome such adversity... even dodging the very grasp of Darth Vader himself... I was overwhelmed!)
-
Kate Beckinsale is a complete surprise to me. I remember wanting to see that movie but coming short.
I haven't seen any of the horror films because I don't like horror. I think I'll vote for Don't Breathe because it is original.
I was kinda hoping Sing Street would sneak into Best Picture but all of the nominees are pretty good all around the board.
Shout-out to Eye in the Sky for getting the surprise Best Film Editing nom even though I didn't see that movie.
Movies that I want to see more than I previously did include:
Arrival
Hunt for the Wilderpeople
Hacksaw Ridge
Kubo and the Two Strings
Silence
