  1. Whoaaaaa absolute insanity. And what's the best source for Vietnam BO numbers?
  2. Pre-pandemic it was: 419 locations 2,107 screens 340k+ seats
  3. Cinema reopening stats as of today (with % to pre-pandemic) Locations = 215 (51%) Screens = 1,180 (56%) Seats = 93.5k+ (27%)
  4. Pandemic era blockbusters: 1. Godzilla vs Kong 2. Stand by Me, Doraemon 2 3. Wonder Woman 1984 4. Demon Slayer: Mugen Train 5. Asih 2 6. Monster Hunter
  5. My (cautious) estimates for GVK: $742-816K first week $1.42-1.56M second week By end of today it will be the #1 movie during the whole pandemic period. Has a shot at 1mil admission.
  6. GVK doing very well, but ... - less than 55% screens open - 50% capacity limit - daily showtime limit (3 to 4) - average ticket price down 30% from pre-pandemic Looking at $1-1.2M opening week PROBABLY as high as $1.44M but that includes a fair amount of wishful thinking from my side. That is about the best that we can do right now.
  7. Raya had a rather lifeless first 4-days with less than 60k admission. That's about what WW84 did in one day.
  8. Dates for import movies. (*) indicates probable dates Mar 10 : Doraemon The Movie: Nobita's New Dinosaur, Greenland, The Secret: Dare to Dream, Tom & Jerry Mar 12 : Roohi Mar 17 : Willy's Wonderland (*) Mar 24/26 : Godzilla vs Kong (*) Apr 7 : Mortal Kombat (*) Apr 14 : Nobody (*) Apr 28 : Black Widow
  9. I'm sorry, everybody's very sensitive about these numbers. Am lucky enough to get a glimpse.
  10. Top 5 movies after reopening (so far) 1. Wonder Woman 1984 2. Stand By Me, Doraemon 2 3. Demon Slayer: Mugen Train 4. Asih 2 5. Monster Hunter combined about 1.7 million admissions (a number that should have been WW84's opening week under normal conditions)
  11. 1. Avengers: Endgame 2. Avengers: Infinity War 3. Warkop DKI Reborn: Jangkrik Boss! Part 1 4. Dilan 1990
  12. Totally unpredictable. Like I said, this is the first time that an anime movie is released by all major chains. Unfortunately, it comes during this very very hard times. Less than 55% locations open, 50% capacity restrictions, 3 to 4 daily shows instead of 5 to 6, three major cities still shuttered. All that plus ever-rising COVID numbers, the debate over quality of the vaccine .... it's a distracted nation. Even Wonder Woman 1984 failed to navigate these troubled waters. So I wouldn't put any burden on Demon Slayer. Note: Latest anime success was One PIece: Stampede (410k admission) Also there's Stand By Me Doraemon's 1 million admission from way way back.
  13. And so it was. Wonder Woman 1984 was a glimmer of hope ...... that faded quickly. A promising opening day, and then it simply crashed and burned. Next up: 24 Dec - local tentpoles Asih 2 (sequel of 1.7mil-adm Asih) and Melankolia (from the studio Visinema who are recently gaining massive popularity) 31 Dec - reissue of Mariposa, an extended version of blockbuster Milea (3.1mil adm), and The New Mutants 6 Jan - Demon Slayer: Mugen Train (first ever nationwide release - all major chains for an anime title), Honest Thief (note: Tenet was slated for the 6th as well but might be cancelled)
  14. Wonder Woman 1984 opens tomorrow. Only about 50% locations will be open, each with 50% capacity. So we're effectively only looking at 25% of market potential here.
  15. This week Indonesia begins "official" recovery by showing new films. Unfortunately none of them are strong ones, so we will have to wait until WW84 (16 Dec) and local horror Asih 2 (24 Dec).
