So let's say this film turns out to  be a big hit, where do they go? Godzilla is already facing King Ghidorah, Rodan and Monthra in King of Monsters. They could go with Destoroyah for the third solo film and have him "kill" Godzilla. As far as Kong goes telling solo stories about him after Skull Island might be difficult.

Toho is talking about making more Godzilla films after 2020, so I suspect Godzilla vs. Kong will be the final installment in Legendary's MonsterVerse.

  2. Exclusive: ‘DEADPOOL 2’s’ Julian Dennison Joins ‘GODZILLA VS KONG’

Julian Dennison has joined the cast of 2020’s Godzilla vs Kong. The 16-year old New Zealander recently starred as Firefist in Deadpool 2 and was first introduced to the masses as Ricky Baker in Taika Waititi’s 2016 film Hunt for the Wilderpeople. The film, which is also going by the title Apex, has been given the following log line from Legendary Pictures: “the Gigantic Kong meets the unstoppable Godzilla. The world watches to see which one becomes the king of all monsters.”

This movie actually looks pretty decent. But I think it's going to bomb HARD. I have next to no knowledge of Kipling's actual books, so I can't say how this compares to that. But I will say that to most people, it will probably just look like a rip-off of Disney's remake from a couple years ago. And I KNOW that has been said about it countless times, but finally seeing some footage really makes it sink in. There's just not enough to differentiate the two, despite WB advertising how "dark" it is.

The books are amazing. You need to read them.

Too bad 'City on the Edge of Battle' looks to be a near carbon copy of the first film, box-office wise. I would have thought a better release date and increased exposure from the Netflix release of the prior film would have boosted it (at least a little!). Even with these smaller runs though, I'm sure they're more than making their money back what with Netflix reimbursing them ahead of time and the slew of new merchandising opportunities.

Not to mention, it's being distributed by Toho Video Division and not the main company. Their video division deals with smaller releases all the time anyway, so it was never going to have "amazing" numbers to begin with.

Haven’t watched the trailer yet but without  any major star this will likely be a niche movie regardless of quality. Hope it is budgeted responsibly

I would say that it probably should be. Budgets for the Predator series have always been relatively tame.

But this is also because the series has had moderate successes and isn't known for pulling blockbuster numbers.
