    I think pandemic or not best Sonic 2 could’ve done was stay flattish ($70m OW) with stronger legs. I think families are back but when previews start at 3 pm and $1.25m is from early access, with family movie multiples a sub $60m OW is more likely than over $70m.

    If Robotnik and the guy Majdoub played started to fuck, I’d have bumped my Sonic 2 grade up lol. While they don’t have like super chemistry, it’s still better than most tentpole romantic leads. They got a weird BDSM vibe going on in this one.

    I’d be pretty bummed if Sonic did just 6m in previews today. 55m-62m would be more likely than 65-70m.

    With a 75m+ OW, Sonic 2 will likely be the first family film since Frozen 2 to do 200m domestic as well as Paramount’s first 200m hit since Fallout. A huge win.

    Because if we’re lucky enough in the next sequel, we’ll get possibly the most furry bait character in video game history in CGI glory (well tbf most Sonic characters are but that’s besides the point).

    The best video game movie ever… is still The Angry Birds Movie 2. Still Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is a fun little movie despite some cringe humor, a few pandering references and a good twenty minutes could’ve been shaved would help the pacing issues. But the cast really helped sell this in particular Schwartz, Elba and Carrey and the action sequences tend to be pretty lively. Sonic 2, if you’re over 12, you’re either in or out based on the title. 3.5/5 (really a 3/5 but post credit hype)

    Trailer Saturday for the two people that care, also probably attached with Sonic. Paramount Animation is no longer producing it but it’s now under the Nickelodeon Movies banner. Interestingly enough it’s the first time Nickelodeon Movies albeit via Paramount is solo distributing a movie like a banner. It’s usually a coproduction.

    I feel 6-7M without Early Access would be good for the sequel to get to 60m-70m. It’ll be more frontloaded due to the fanbase and certain characters returning.

    Menomonee looks much stronger at 110 tickets sold at the same time but also has 7 showings for it.
