Endless Animation and Laika team up for their second feature together: Once
From Endless Animation, the minds behind Can You Imagine? and The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl and Laika, who bought us Coraline and Kubo and The Two Strings bring the second movie in their collaboration together, the stop motion animated musical Once.
Once takes place in a fantasy world where fairy tales are real as we center in on Wendy (Lilla Crawford; Into The Woods), the bookish and rather reserved girl on the cusp on teenage-dom, and Thomas (Brady Noon; Good Boys), her younger more excitable brother tired of their mundane boring “happily ever after” life, have decided to take a forest stroll to retrieve ingredients for their supper as the two siblings become wrapped up on a quest to save their baby sister from The Witch (Helena Bonham Carter; Cinderella, Les Miserables) who needs the baby for a spell against her ex husband and just as vile sorcerer The Shadowman (David Thewlis; Harry Potter series, Big Mouth). The Witch promises to return the child if she is bought The Godmother. The two must trek across the safe home in the woods to the outer regions of society, as they learn what it means to grow up and if magic is real.
The rest of the cast includes:
Jordan Peele as Dog
Taron Egerton as The Prince
Zendaya as Red
Jackie Buscarino as Rapunzel
Norm McDonald as The Wolf
with
Maya Rudolph as Mother
Jason Suldekis as Father
James Corden as The Thief
and
Estelle as The Godmother
Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise (Beauty and The Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame) will direct the project as Alan Menken (Medusa) and Eddie Perfect (Beetlejuice: The Musical) to provide the songs. Once is aiming for a Y6/7 release date.
