The Music In Me
From the studio that imagined the Academy Award winning Can You Imagine, the nutty and heartfelt The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl and the spellbinding musical Medusa, comes an all new animated film about family, music and sisterhood from Endless Animation
Ava DuVernay (Selma) will write and direct the all new animated feature, The Music In Me.
The Music In Me will be Endless Animation first all original project, not like the adaptations from books or games (Pigeon, Squirrel Girl or the upcoming Mario) or unused films acquired and remade (Can You Imagine?, Medusa and My Peoples).
The plot reads:
“13 year old twins; stern and somewhat cold Aria Note (Storm Reid) and free spirited and rather optimistic Zoya Note (Shahidi Wright Joseph) have never gotten along and come from a long line of the most famous singers in America. Their mother Imani Note (Janelle Monae), is a rhythmic R&B singer and their father Jamal Note (Ne-Yo) is a popular rapper. Aria is a naturally gifted singer but is rather shy, and feels pressured into music something Zoya has been jealous off. However, during their latest feud, their parents are kidnapped by The Conductor (David Thewlis), an all powerful-all evil music god who plans to use the most powerful voices in history to enslave the world. The two twins must travel to the music realm, where music and it’s genres are personified and alive to save their parents and the world. With the help of the spirit of their grandmother, a famous blues singer back in the day (Oprah Winfrey), and the help of the former God of Rock (Jack Black), the two sisters must learn to understand one another to save their parents and our planet, as well as the power of sisterly love.”
Estelle, Kimiko Glenn, Jason Suldekis, Keegan Michael Key, Jordan Peele, Jackie Buscarino, Seth MacFarlane, John Mulaney and Rosario Dawson will also star in the film.
Peter Del Vecho (The Princess and The Frog, Frozen), Peter Ramsey (Spider-Man: Into The Spider Verse) and Rebecca Sugar (Academy Award winner Notes From The Otherspace, Academy Award winner Can You Imagine?) will produce as the heads on Endless Animation Chris McKay (The Lego Batman Movie, Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive) and Meg LeFauve (Medusa, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl) and Endless Entertainment CEO Xavier B. Irving will executive produce.
Newcomer Anaïs Mitchell (Hadestown) will compose the film and Lin Manuel Miranda (Moana, Hamilton) will write the songs. Worldmeander will be used (combines computer animation and traditional animation) like in Medusa and The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl but the movie will be designed like Medusa, more akin to Disney traditionally animated musicals.
The project will replace Monkeys on Mumbai for a late March Y6 release hoping to replicate the success of Lilo and Stitch and Can You Imagine?, the two biggest March openers in CAYOM.
